WDW in last August

Due to a resignation in our dept. and the amount of time it takes to bring the new person up to speed, it's unlikely that I and the kids will be able to take our annual WDW trip in early May (my preferred time). I thought perhaps late Sept or early Oct, my DS, who'll be a senior next year, said he doesn't want to take the time off from school. So, I, we, are looking at around August 19 - 25. To all those who've done an August trip, can you tell me what's it's like in the parks that time of year: weather, crowds?

I was there the week following your dates. It was mega hot and humid with a good downpour every afternoon. BUT the rain is over almost as fast as it starts and if you prepare yourself for the heat you can handle it. The crowds were very managable. Most of the time we only waited about ten minutes, even forE-ticket rides.

My tips for August...

sunscreen
pace yourself
take a midday break
swim
stop in air conditioned theaters and shops to cool off
water water water

We had the time of our lives and wouldn't hesitate going at that time of year again.

Hi, I have gone the past two Augusts. In 2004, I went from the 19 - 29, and in 2005 it was the 13 - 20th. I also have a highschooler, so that was my reason for the summer trips.

We usually either sleep in and hang out at the pool during the day & then hit the parks in the evening, or do the early park thing, rest and back to the parks in the eve. Just being in that heat is really draining.

I didn't think the crowds were too bad, but the heat and humidity are awful and make it hard for me & the kids to stand in line for too long. My husband will not even go to WDW with us in August. :guilty: He did it in 2004 and said "Never again"....

This past year it only rained once during our stay, but the year before we did have the daily afternoon showers. Our plan is just to take it slow - like a real vacation and relax more - vs. being as park crazy as we usually are. It is a different kind of vacation for us in August than our norm. Much more slow and easy paced. That seems to work out for us & we have a great time despite the weather.

Happy planning!

I've been twice in August (25th-early Sept) and while the weather is very hot and humid..crowds have been VERY light.

Example: EVERY ride was a walk-on except Peter Pan, and Tomorrowland Speedway (running one side with very few cars).
Test Track, Soarin', Splash, Space, ToT, RnRC...everything was a walk-on...even Fantasmic wasn't full.

I went 8/23-26 last year, only because Southwest Airlines had an incredible special. The weather was incredibly HOT! And this is from someone who lives in subtropical climate. If you hate heat, this is NOT the time to go. But if you hate crowds more than you hate heat, maybe it is the right time. There were no crowds.
