Hi Everyone :wave2:

I'm new to the boards and I'm loving it here ! My family and I will be going to Disney on August 14-21 .... my kids are so excited ! My question is this : I KNOW we're going to melt at that time of the year, but we'll be prepared with our Brita water bottles...LOL...anyways....will there be a ton of people at that time of the year ? I'm wondering if the lines for the rides are going to be ridiculously long ?

TIA !! :sunny:

Welcome to the DIS!!!!!!!!!!!

I went two years ago in August and we are going back this year in August. The crowds are not as terrible as everyone thinks. Definately get there when park opens, if necessary take a break (I find this only necessary on Magic Kingdom Days). I posted this on another post you may find it useful

How I picked what parks to go to. I looked at which one was the busiest for that day. Then I looked at which parks have Early Entry that day often that particular park will get very busy also. Then I chose what ever park was left for example. BTW I got this information from Unofficial Guide and www.allearsnet.com

Sunday busiest park is MGM / Early Entry is MK- so choose AK or Epcot

Monday Busiest is MK and AK/ Early Entry is AK- choose Epcot or MGM

Tuesday Busiest is Epcot and AK/ Early Entry is MGM obvious Choice is MK

Wednesday Busiest is MGM and AK/ Early Entry is Epcot- Choose MK

Thursday Busiest MK/ Early Entry MK- Any other park

Firday Busiest is Epcot/ Early Entry AK- MK or MGM are good choices

Saturday Busiest is AK/ Early Entry is MGM- Choose MK or Epcot

You could also take advantage of EE at one park and hop to another one when it starts to get busy

This is my plan to hopefully choose the least busiest park. Although we are hitting MK on an EE day one morning just to do Fantasyland, no lines or waiting its the only way to see it!!!( I have done this before on a regular opening and we had Fantasy land to ourselves, I am not kidding.) When the rope drops to open the rest of the park he will go to Splash Mt. (we would have already done twice earlier in the week, but it's his favorite) with the older kids and I am taking the younger kids to Toontown. After those few things are done by 9:30am hopefully we will be on our way to Epcot. We are starting our trip on August 5th I am so :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

WOW...thanks for all the great info !! Ya know, me and my husband went to DisneyWorld on our honeymoon 7 yrs ago and we went in March. Our travel agent said " best time of the year to go..it will be dead there" YEAH RIGHT !!!!! According to some, March is THE BUSIEST time to go !! I remember that Blizzrd Beach AND Typhoon Lagoon both closed their gates due to the park being SO full !
We'll be staying at All Star Movies....have you ever stayed there ?

Tyleigh,
anditoo72 gave you good advice!

This will be our third August trip, and it really isn't too bad. We just came back a week and a half ago==way more crowded than Aug! :earseek:

Get to the parks early, use fastpass and you'll be fine.

AllStar Movies is very nice. My son loved it there. He ranks it number two on his resort list (after the Polynesian!) Your kids should love it. They have a decent sized food court and we found the bus service excellent.

anditoo72: I thought Toontown didn't open until 10 am. Did that change? We usually skip it because of thinking it had a later opening.

The end of August isn't that crowded! Two years ago, we went the last week of July and the 1st week of August...and noticed a dropoff in attendance around the 5th of August! So this year, we are doing week 2 and 3 of August! Most schools in the US(with the exception of NJ, NY and some PA & Maryland) are already back to back by the 2 nd week!

Hi Tyleigh

My family will be at WDW at the same time as yours!

I have been to Orlando several times in July and in August. I have found the second half of August seems much less crowded than July. I believe that is due to the fact that many schools start back at that time. Don't get me wrong, it's not like the parks are empty but it seems managable to me. It is hot, hot, hot! And expect it to rain every afternoon.

We always get to the park early (I am one of those crazy people that does the EE mornings). I find that my family just does better early in the morning. We usually stay at park until about 1 or 2 o'clock. Then we go back to the hotel for a swim and a nap in the AC (ahhh!). Then we head out again (usually to a different park) after the rain has stopped in the late afternoon.

You will have a wonderful, magical time. :sunny:

Thanks everyone :D

Ok, so I know to expect rain....is it the kind of rain that is hot and makes ya feel gross or does it cool ya off a bit ? Rain doesn't bother me at all, and my kids happen to love being outside in the rain. I am getting so excited, I can't wait !! I recently heard that Its A Small World is closed for renovations  That was my favorite ride back in March of 1997. Ahh well, theres tons more to see and do !

The key is go early and get out of the parks by 1:00 to cool off come back later in the day. we always use early entry and have a detailed plan of attack. Last year we were able to ride 13 rides at mk before noon. have fun going the same week   :sunny:

Hey - ive gone in august for the past 3 years! Hot - yes - rain - yes hard for like 15 mintues then its hot again - it actually feels good! The Lines, not bad! Some longer than others but it could be a lot worse. Like stated above - most schools are open in mid August so you will find mostly us NYers and our great friends from across the pond (The UK)

I always recommend that time of year for my friends. Actually, I land on Friday night the 13th and leave the 21st. Maybe we will run into each other. LOL! Share some secrets and tips! Have fun!
