Hi everyone!

My Parter and I are planning on having our 'honeymoon' (no legal marriage in Australia T_T) at the world.

At first I was really excited being the big disney geek that I am , I mentioned the celebration to our travel agent and bought us some matching minnie wedding ears to wear in the parks...

I am still really excited about it, but something was mentioned that made me stop in my tracks. Im not sure how things are in America, but here in Aus many parents are extremely worried about seeing a couple in public who are the same sex.
Im now worried that my dream honeymoon might offend people and cause trouble and am regretting getting those beautiful ears!

Dont get me wrong, Im not talking about 'inappropriate' public behaviour or anything, but about things like matching wedding ears, holding hands ect.

I would hate for this to be a bad experience, and Im already worried by the things Ive heard about american airports T__T

I guess Im wondering if anyone has any experiences they can share.. sorry if this is the wrong place to post *spot the newbie*

Is it best to go along as 'friends' ?

Thanks for any help!

Hi! I'm not normally on this part of the board, but I just saw this and had to say that I think it's adorable. Wear your matching wedding ears with pride!

Best Wishes!!

Well, this is not advice from experiance, but my input as a straight mom here from the states.

I don't think you'll encounter too much trouble at all from famililes. There are conservatives who may feel uncomfortable at the sight of a happy same-sex couple, but ignore them. You are entitled to your own happy vacation too. Most kids will be too involved in the magic of the parks to notice you anyways, even if they would at all in the first place.

Congratulations on the union of you and your soulmate! Have a Magical vacation in WDW and rock your mouse ears :)

Go! Have fun!

You should have no problems! You posted late for us here in the states, but I'm sure Rob will chime in soon.....he got married at Disney and spent his Honeymoon on DCL! From what he has told me, he had nothing but positive experiences!

And make sure to call ahead and let the resort know its your honeymoon, get the pins, wear them! The cast members are great! Honestly....I think they treat same sex couples just a little better than the heterosexual ones!

Congratulations! :grouphug:

mmm-hmmm. so darn unfair! :sad2:

Kidding. We had our anniversary pins on during our trip last year... It was such a fun experience...

I think Disney is the perfect place for you to go to celebrate your life together and your commitment. What better place than the land of dreams, wishes, and pixie dust? :goodvibes

Wear them proudly!! I can't imagine it being a negative experience...honestly, Disney is very gay friendly. Congrats!!!

Hey there!

Congratulations!

As Mike mentioned, my partner and I had a Disney Wedding and spent our honeymoon in the parks as well as on the Disney Cruise Line. (the full trip report is linked in my signature below. Beware it's a LONG thread! :lmao:)

My advice for you is to wear the ears, wear the "honeymoon" buttons (ask for them at any guest services desk on property) and just enjoy being happy and in love at Disney World.

Disney takes VERY good care of it's GLBT guests, whether they're honeymooning or not.

You won't regret a minute of it!

We've been to WDW a million times...we've seen same sex couples. NO ONE EVEN NOTICES. I don't think I've seen a look, a stare...nothing. There are even gay days at the parks. Don't you two worry. You'll be treated and looked at just like the rest of us. You're no different and won't be treated any differently. When are you all going? Congrats to you both.

I'm a straight, married mom with three kids, and we are heading to the park soon. We would be thrilled to see a same-sex, happy couple on their honeymoon at the park!!!!! It's no different than any other loving couple there!! I hope you go and have a wonderful, memorable time. :yay:

:woohoo: Congratulations! I hope you have a totally pixie dusted and amazing time at WDW for your Disneymoon. :goodvibes

Thank you so much everyone, I'm so relieved!!:grouphug:

I'm glad I came out of lurkdom to ask!

I just thought I had better check, every country is different right? plus you never know with places catering to families with children...

When are you all going?

We will be heading down to the world in September this year for 14 days :goodvibes hoping to catch one of Lou Mongello's meets of the month to meet some other disney fans, but even if we don't know anyone I'm sure we will have a blast!

yep, what everyone else said. I celebrated 2 years dating my bf at WDW. As a CM, I know the company always has my back, but I was down here as a guest(lived in WI at the time) and had a fantastic time. We wore buttons and matching top hats the whole trip. We were greeted warmly by CMs, the talking trash can at MK, and even Mrs Clause from her float in the xmas parade! It was a fantastic time and I'd do it again in a heart beat!

I have not yet gotten the pleasure of a same sex couple coming onto a boat I'm driving, but when I see it, I already know I'll do something extra for them. CMs and Disney always have your back against anyone who might find it "offensive"

First off:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

:bride::bride:

you are going to have SO MUCH FUN!!!!!

Congratulations!!! :bride::bride: Have a great time on your Disneymoon!

As PPs have mentioned, Disney is very GLBT friendly, so as long as there's no inappropriate PDA (which I personally find gross no matter who's involved), I don't think you'll have much of a problem...

Hi there!

First off congratulations! You're going to have a FANTASTIC holiday!:cool1:

I'd say wear those ears and have fun! DP and I honeymooned at WL following our civil partnership (legal in UK). We didn't mention it on our reservations (I had some worries much like you!) but we wished we had, everyone was so friendly and we didn't get any negative looks / comments!

The only possible 'down' point was at Orlando airport. Flying in from the UK we waited in line with our various forms and saw lots of heterosexual couples / families go up to the immigration desk together. We went up together and were asked 'what's your relationship?' when I said we were 'civil partners' the officer said 'you can't come up together, one of you needs to go back':scared1: I pointed out that we had the same surname (we'd changed these on our passport following the partnership, which is legal in the UK) and lived at the same address, and he eventually allowed us to process our details together - phew :thumbsup2

Not a big deal - but next time we may go through immigration seperatley, thinking back I don't know if going up together really saves much time anyway!

Whatever you choose - have fun and CELEBRATE!!

Congratulations! I would definitely wear them and not worry about what anyone else says or thinks! I proposed last week to my GF while watching Wishes and we wore our "Just Engaged" buttons all week long and never had one negative comment said to us. She also wanted to buy the bride ears but I told her once things are "official" we will go down again to celebrate (hopefully our honeymoon) and will both wear them then!

CONGRATULATIONS! Assuming the ears you found are the pic in your avatar - gorgeous...wear them with pride and all of the giddyness that goes along with honeymooning!

Since you asked specifically about parents/children, I just wanted to weigh in as a straight mom and tell you that you should go and enjoy your honeymoon as a couple in love and not worry. And hey, most folks with kids are totally oblivious to the world around them anyway (I know I'm more oblivious since motherhood! LOL!)

I do want to mention, though, that there may be folks who have never seen any GLBT couples in "real life" before. We've experienced this a few times as a transracially adoptive family. I haven't had any negative comments made, mostly those brief stares that extend beyond a short glance that tell me these folks haven't been exposed to a family that looks like mine before.

So anyway, congratulations, happy planning and have a wonderful time! :lovestruc

My wife and I just got back from the parks in November for our 3 yr anniversary. I even made sure we wore our anniversary pins. We got nothing but congrats and best wishes. Everyone was very nice. Not a negative word (that we heard) anywhere.

Have fun!!
:yay:

Congrats again. You are going to have an amazing time. Lou is the best too...make sure you tell him how far you've travelled. He'll be impressed.:thumbsup2
