Can anyone tell me why or how to avoid the higher rates for pick up and drop off for Alamo at the Swan or Car Center...

The rate is 1/2 if I get the car from MCO instead of either of those two places...also, is there anyway to avoid it?

Thanks

I have a reservation picking a car up at the Car Care Center and returning it to the airport. It is the same price as if I both rented and returned it to the airport. I suppose it depends what code you use, I am using the Walmart code because of the free addl driver. I am paying about $310 for 12 days. However, I checked the same itinerary with pickup at the Dolphin and it was a lot higher than the Car Care Center. This is for early Oct. Also the rate has gone up about $50 since I made a reservation a month or so ago.

I would consider how much you will be saving given the price of gas if you pick up at MCO. If you take DME you will save on gas. Good luck!

Back in Jan, we stayed at the Swan. We had a towncar bring us from MCO to the Swan, and we were going to rent a car there (at the Dolphin) and drive to Tampa for ds's wedding. But, my adult dd was being dropped, by my ex, at MCO, so we had to change our plans. When I checked into the possibility of renting at MCO, I found that it was cheaper if I had the towncar bring me back to MCO (a roundtrip fare) and then rent at MCO when I picked up my dd. Even after paying the addtl money for the towncar, it was still about $30 cheaper than renting at the Dolphin.
In August, we are heading to Port C for a cruise, but are renting a car rather than using Disney transport or a towncar since we arrive in port 3 days before the cruise. Well, I checked on renting at DTD vs MCO (we weren't using Alamo this time since they don't have an office in port and National was just nasty expensive)....it was, again, cheaper to rent at MCO. And faster. So, we are taking DME back to MCO, with all our bags, then renting through Budget there. I think they can charge less at MCO since they do so much more business there as compared to the non-airport sites.

If you rent @ WDW & return to MCO you fall into a higher fare category due to the 1 way (cannot remember the official term used to designate not returning it to place of rental lol).

Unless it's just a weekend fare, it usually is cheaper for us to rent it for a week+ @ MCO.:confused3

I'm picking up at the CCC and dropping off at MCO. My rate is only $4 higher.

My current ressie using BJ's code and $25 off coupon for 8/21-9/4 for a MidSize SUV is $313. If I change it to MCO to MCO it only goes down to $309.

What are your dates? When I first booked there was a big difference in price picking up at the CCC but as I got closer to my trip the prices came together.

we've gotten some excellent rates at dolphin alamo & national over the years(for last week of august rentals). both are waaaay too high for our oct trip ~ & alamo's rate is $100+ more than national :scared1:. we'll just keep playing with codes & coupons, pick-up day/place, & hope for the good rates as we get closer to our dates. (btw, decided on dollar at grosvenor for our trip next week. about 2/3 of the price of dolpin national, 1/2 of alamo).

Keep checking back. The total price for a rental picked up from the Car Center, etc. with return at the airport will vary like all rentals. Sometimes there will be a special deal on a one way rental, with a minimal or no drop charge, giving a total price the same as or less than for a rental with return to the same place as pickup.

we never rent from an airport - because I don''t want to pay the absurd airport rental tax - sometimes is 14%.

Only if you pick up there. If you return to the airport you don't pay the tax.
