WDW Facts! Did you know...

Some of the timber used to build the Wilderness Lodge came from the Mt. St. Helens area after the eruption in 1980.

When you walk down Main Street, only one building, City Hall, is built entirely to full scale. This was done so they could hide the Contemporary Resort.

Also, forced perspective is used as you walk towards the castle. Buildings are larger when you start down Main St, and the combination of walking slightly uphill and buildings gradually getting smaller make the castle appear larger then it really is.

Pretty cool trick..... and it wasn't something I noticed until our KTTK guide pointed it out.

did you know every time I pass by splash Mt I have to pee :teeth:

Did you know Spaceship Earth is 180 ft tall 165 ft wide and weighs approx 16 million pounds. :cool1:

I think you mean Exposition Hall. City Hall is on the West side of Main Street (the side that faces the Grand Floridian) :)

There's a lot of these trivia bits in the WDW trivia thread here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=311217

Did you know that in Spaceship Earth they continually play a track of a bird in trouble/pain. They do this so that no other birds will nest in SE. They had problems with this when it was first built. If you listen carefully, you can hear it.

Also, in the shootin arcade in frontierland, the guns originally used pellets. But everynight maintainence would have to come in and paint the targets again. So that is why the changed it to the way they have it now.

In Winnie the Pooh ride, in owl's room, there is a picture of Mr. Toad giving Owl the deed to the place. Since it is in that spot that Mr. Toad's wild ride was previously until Winnie the Pooh moved in.

The Liberty Tree has 13 lanterns hanging from it to represent the 13 original colonies.

Did you know that all the names on the windows of the buildings on Main Street USA are not facing the Castle, except for Walt Disney's name, which is up on the Ice Cream Parlor.

Did you know that Cindy's Castle DOES have an apartment built into it. When it was first built Walt and Roy's family were asked if they would like to have it set up for them. They declined and the room was used for storage for many years, prior to its current use as a "green" room for performers at the castle.
It was being built for Walt but since he past away prior to the park opening, the room was used for Disney operators at first.

I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour and I thought this tidbit was interesting....All of the garbarge disposal is obviously done backstage in a huge thing. To keep the smell from getting into the parks they have a giant air freshener pointed in the direction of the park from backstage that pumps some fresh scent to hide the garbarge. Never even thought why I never smelled garbarge there and they have plenty of it!

Did you also know that Spaceship Earth in its entirety can fit inside the Living Seas, with enough room around the outside of it to drive a tractor trailer truck?

There used to be a jetport near MK that is now used as additional bus parking.

It is actually too short to be a real jet port. Its name is/was "Buena Vista STOLport". STOL stands for Short Take-Off and Landing. It is located across the access road to the East of the TTC Parking.

Actually....Walt died prior to even the first shovel of dirt being dug by a machine in WDW. His brother Roy spearheaded the "Florida project".

Did you know no guests under 16 is allowed in the tunnel system because it would bother children, seeing two Goofys passing each other, Mickey without a head, seeing Minnie eating with Snow White, and ruin the magic.

Did you know that the utilidors are NOT underground?? They are actually on ground level......
When you visit Fantasyland etc, you are actually on level TWO!!

Did you know the tunnel system is considered by Cast Members as the 1st floor, and not really a tunnel system. The entire Magic Kingdom is technically on the second and third floors. While most areas are on the 2nd floor, Fantasyland is on the 3rd floor. If you notice while in the park you will see how Fantasyland and the castle are higher.
