WDW Facts! Did you know...

Since Walt died in 1966 and the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World opened in 1971 why would they put an apartment in it for him to use?

Walt's apartment was actually designed to be in Cinderella's Castle and the plans were in place BEFORE he died, to my knowledge. The room was originally used as a telelphone room where CM's took reservations for the park. It has since been turned into a "green room" for the performers at the castle. There is an elevator that goes to it, and only certain CM's have the key that makes it work.

Sorry about not distinguishing the fact that thr light on Main Street ia about Disneyland. All other facts that I have posted are about DW.

Here is more information about the light on Main Street.

Although not a restaurant, shop or attraction, look upstairs at the Firestation on Mian Street. Here is where Walt had his secret hideaway for many years. A quaint Victoria apartment, decorated in red and white, was his home here at Disneyland. Never photographed or shown to the public until 1963, when National Geographic was allowed to photograph Walt, Lillian and two grandchildren at play in the apartment, it is still regarded as Walt's personal haven, and the only place he is known to have spent the night in the park. Few others since have done likewise. When Walt would stay in the park, a light shone from the center window as a sign he was present. Every since his death in 1966, that light has remained on. Walt is still in Disneyland.

On the left side of Main Street (look up when you get past town square) there is a light on in an upper part of a building. This was to be Walt's apartment and they have always left the light on for him. They occasionally have been known to rent it out.

I think you are confusing DL and WDW. Walt's apartment in DW was supposed to be in Cinderella's castle. It believe it was used for a while for the telephone operators.

Walt did have the opportunity to use his apartment in DL. There have been many features on it, especially on the Travel Channel. I'm not sure if it is rented out, but I know they make sure to keep things as they were during his time.

Why did they close for Floyd? It hit just north of us in Charleston (I should know, my ship had to go back out to sea for it, the day after returning from a deployment to Kosovo)

Not sure why they closed, but they did. I was there. The day they were preparing for it the weather was very creepy. Maybe more so, because I wasn't used to hurricanes. Give me a tornado anyday. They thought the hurricane was going to be much worse than what it really was. We got up the next morning and there were some trees that were down. They didn' get what they were expecting.
