WDW Drinkers Unite!

Being a former bartender myself, I went to ASMu a while back and had the bartender make up my specialty drink for me, and he wasn't sure what to charge, so he made enough and my tab was only $20 for 3 drinks that would have been at least $30 here at my bar, based on all the alcohol he put into it (I tipped him so well 'cause 3 was all it took for me).

But, I let a couple of people around me taste it and they all loved it so he ended up making a lot of money off me that night 'cause about 6 people ordered them-so he bought me a drink!

Lastly, it tastes like Hawaiian Punch but has 5 alcohols in it. All rums!

Yummy!

Sounds good....care to share the recipe?

Great thread! Good DIS'er that I am, I'm well into the planning for my October trip. Now I'm making a special list of all the drinks I'd like to try!! So far on the list...

the infamous Lapu Lapu
Grand Marnier slushie in Epcot (France)
Peach tea schnapps drink - Epcot China (not sure exactly what the drink is called - saw it in a DIS trip report)
YOAMD blue glowtini - I know... but it's been mentioned so much, I gotta try it
New tequila bar in Mexico pavilion -- hoping it will be open. I love the atmosphere in there. Add tequila and...:cloud9:
Yak attack at Yak & Yeti (mango daquiri w/ berry)
Margarita from the shack at Downtown Disney (sentimental favorite)
I also heard that if you happen to find a nip or 2 of rum in your pocket while in the MK that they go well in a Dole Whip :rolleyes1

Anything else that should make the list?

:drinking1

My DH and I are trying our attempt at Drinking Around the World when we land on the 20th 'cause its his bday and we figured, what the anyhoo............

I have done some research, but it is very difficult to find it on some sights:

The beers available at each country? I don't want a Bud in Japan, a Guiness in Mexico, and I want them all draft. DOes each country have an indigenous beer on draft or am I gonna be disappointed and have to switch to, GASP-hard liquor?

ANybody gonna be there that day and want to join us?

We make this a must do on every trip, and never had a plain bud draft. there is such a good different choice of drafts in each country. The only thing I miss is they got rid of the yards of beer at the rose and crown. That was a terrible disappointment. We always got some fish and chips and a yard of bass. As for the OP...favorite place to drink has to be raglan road. The music, entertainment, atmosphere, and of course the drink. The irish car bomb is THE bomb:thumbsup2

I'm staying at POR next week! What's in that Irish car bomb? Had similar things, I think, but I think I'm gonna try it. My background is Scotch-Irish so that means I can drink you under the table and play bagpipes at the same time!

Pour Guiness into a pint glass. Float Baileys on top of Jamison in shot glass. Drop shot glass, carefully, into Guiness. You gotta chug it before it curdles. If it curdles it turns into pudding basicly. So if you want a sippy drink, this is not for you:thumbsup2

When did they get rid of the yards of Bass? Is it just the bass or are all the yards gone? Thanks! We are there in 3 weeks and my DH was really looking forward to that!

All the yards are gone, they said it was some kind of code violation:confused3

The beer that I love that you can find all over WDW is Yuenling. It is a great amber lager and I grew up with it living in Pa. Now I movedto Ohio and I cant get it here but there is a brewery in Tampa and almost everywhere has it on tap. That and Spaten are amazing.

I like Yuenling as well. I can't get it in CT, so I look for it when I'm in WDW. Its pretty light, so it tastes great in the Florida heat.

Instead of a yard, I prefer to buy one of the steins in Germany and have them refill it all day. Of course, I throw away the stein before I leave. They are disposable, right? Oh well, it's just money!

I understand Rose & Crown no longer sells yards. As far as I know you can still get the stein in Germany.

Unfortunately they stopped the yards around early October last year...Carl at the R&C told us they were stopped due to sanitary issues related to refills that were brought up by the State of Florida.

We were told the standardized drink menu is the creation of the new Disney beverage head who came over from TGI Fridays and believes that people want to be able to find their favorite drink at any Disney bar. He's also responsible for taking away the unique bar food choices and replacing with the standard wings/nachos stuff...basically his goal is to turn Disney into the world's largest TGI Fridays I guess.

That's the single most horrifying thing I've read in a long, long time ... and I work in finance. :rotfl2:

Wow, I agree. As someone who never eats in chain restaurants, it is very disappointing for me to think of WDW Dining turning into a giant TGI Friday's. Hmmm....maybe a letter writing campaign to this fellow and his boss is in order.

WHAT?????? Oh, my gosh....

WDW alcoholic here, as well. Apparently, I like B52's, or at least that's what the receipt said last time we were there....

Kidding. I drink the beer (there is an indigenous beer from each country, though they are not always on tap). I am HORRIFIED that they don't do yards anymore. Horrified.

(TGI Fridays? I agree, awful, but this can't surprise you guys after the McDonald's thing - I about lost it when I saw a McDonald's in WDW years ago...)

Hey, I work in finance too...horrifying is pretty routine in the finance world.

Heard on a podcast this morning that WDW was voted as the best place in the USA to get a cocktail by "Cheers" magazine (?? never heard of it before today). And the blue YOAMD glow-tini was voted best signature drink.

Not sure about the glow-tini as I haven't had one yet but this thread suggests we all agree on the other!!
