Hi all! I could use some help!
I know that Carsland is opening up around 2012, and being that both my LOs love Cars, DH said I could look into a trip out West for about 1 1/2-2 years from now. He knows I've been wanting to go back (attended college in Santa Barbara) and the new park area looks fun to him. Fun enough to get on an airplane again (his first time ever was this past September - and he HATED it).
SO...
Where the heck do I start? I'm thinking we'd stay at either the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier (the kids would be ~ 4 and 6, both Disney nuts). I've been to both DL and CA, but we were at CA in the opening year, so I know tons of things have changed (including some retheming of "older" attraction - Symphony Swings anyone...). So far only DS and I are into thrill rides so we'd most likely be the only ones on Maliboomer and California Screamin'.
Should I plan on 4 or 5 days? Being used to WDW, you have to break it way down. I figure if we do 4 days, we'd drive up to Santa Barbara for one day, but 5 days at DLR sounds so tempting! I know it would be plenty of time and we wouldn't schedule any park days on travel days like we do around here. It would just be too much with the time change.
Does DLR experience the "seasonal" crowd flucuations (sp?) that we have here? I really can't remember... it's been 8 years since I lived in Cali. The last time I was at DL was for Christmas, but was there in early spring and also in the fall... the crowd levels seemed relatively similar or I just wasn't paying attention...
What about food? My only requirement is dinner at Blue Bayou. Always wanted to do it and by golly, it will be done! I know a lot of the great eateries are over at DTD, but I wasn't sure if anything new and good has popped up in the parks.
Anything that I'm forgetting? It was an easy sell on DLR since everything is SO.MUCH.CLOSER together than WDW. He didn't believe me at first when I told him the parks were across the street from one another!
I can't believe I may be able to share Cali with the family - I honestly never thought he would consider the idea, but he really fell in love with Disney a couple of years ago (I know... I know... late bloomer
). I think he partly wants to go to Uncle Walt's park AND he REALLY wants to see Carsland!
TIA!

Thanks for all the great links! I actually went to Brooks Institute... but visited UCSB a *ahem* few times...
