Here we goooo! Its time for the third and last part of our WDW Dining and Desserting restaurant reviews. I hope Im not being too verbose, but I like to be thorough, b/c we really enjoy Disney dining! As a reminder, our cast includes me, CoolDisneyCats DD23, and CoolDisneyCat aka, Mom.
Day 7 Saturday, December 18
- Lunch Roaring Fork, Wilderness Lodge
Wed been to Roaring Fork before Monday, I think and had beaten a hasty retreat. The place was just completely uninviting. It was dark and small, and the choices of cold sandwiches didnt impress us at all. However, we were really hungry Saturday afternoon and too lazy to drive anywhere. It was 3pm when we got down there, and the place was packed!! By the time we finished eating, though, it was mostly cleared out.
I ordered the grilled chicken breast sandwich w/ fries, and Mom got the cheeseburger w/ fries. Mom went outside to get us a table, and I waited inside for our food. I thought I was going to have to wait a while b/c the first number they called was 2320, and my number was 2333! Luckily, though, I only waited 5ish+ minutes or so. Our food was ok, better than a lot of counter service places b/c it was hot and fresh. The fries were pretty good, too, but nothing compared to the ones at the GF Café!
We had to eat outside, b/c the inside dining room is so small. It was really crowded, and it smelled pretty funky. I guess it was a combo of cooking food, the toppings bar (w/ pickles and onions), and how hot it was in there. I dont know; it was just awful.
Also, I wish ppl would clean up their messes. One of the tables outside was covered in ketchup and crumbs and trash. It was really gross. How long does it take to wipe the ketchup off the table before you stand up? Is it really the responsibility of the next person who comes along to clean up after you? Its just a pet peeve of mine.
Moving on
- Dinner Yachtsman Steakhouse, Yacht Club
The Yachtsman is one of our favorite restaurants at Disney, and we go every trip. We usually go near the end of our vacation as a kind of send off. We were 15 minutes early for our 8pm PS b/c we were there to get the Happy Holidays pins. Contrary to normal Yachtsman style, we werent ushered into the lounge to wait, but only asked to wait in the chairs area. We only waited about 2 or 3 minutes before being taken to our table.
The past couple of visits to the Yachtsman weve just gotten bad tables. I dont know what it is. This trip was no exception. We decided to stay, though, b/c we had the same server wed had from our March trip: a very nice, friendly young man named Zach. The only real hitch to the evening is that we spent so long chatting w/ Zach that they ran out of the sweet onion rolls, and those are my favorite! A group seated after we were got some of the rolls, but we didnt b/c we were chatting. Too darn friendly for our own good, we are. But no, it was worth it.
Anyway, we decided to forego an appetizer this time. Mom ordered the filet mignon and I got the Land and Sea, which is two small filet medallions and a (huge) lobster tail. When I say huge, I mean huge. Id hate to see the lobster that sucker was attached to. The medallions had a cabernet wine sauce which created a nice, mellow contrast to the sharp bleu cheese also served on them. The mashed potatoes w/ both our meals were wonderful. We really like mashed potatoes. And filet mignon.
Both of our steaks were excellent, btw, and we enjoyed them thoroughly. Our verdict, though, was that the best steak we had all week was at Tchoup Chop.
For dessert we ordered the dessert sampler. We love dessert samplers. It had white chocolate macadamia nut pie (our favorite!); raspberry sorbet (very, very smooth, not too sour); key lime pie (tart, smooth, yummy); Jack Daniels chocolate mousse (much better than we remembered, very delicious); and an excellent crème brulee. Again, a wonderful choice if you cant make up your mind on which dessert to order!
Day 8 Sunday; our last day!!
- Breakfast Kona Café, Poly
This meal was the last one before heading home.
Mom got up early (for us) Sunday morning to make the PS at 11:10. We wanted to go to the Poly to get the Happy Holidays pin, and after our ordeal getting into GF w/o a PS, we didnt want to take chances!
We checked out of WL at around 10, and then headed to the Boardwalk to get their Happy Holidays pin (we wanted one for every resort where weve stayed, but it was SO crowded everywhere Sunday that we skipped AKL). Man, it was a zoo over there! We barely made our PS on time b/c of this crazy parking debacle with this giant truck blocking the road
Well, anyway, breakfast was wonderful. We both got French toast, except I got bacon and Mom got sausage. We both got a side order of potatoes, and they provided a nice salty/spicy contrast to the sweet French toast. Mom and I are something of French toast connoisseurs, and while Spoodles will always be the best (thus far, anyway), Kona was very, very good! We both ate every bite of our breakfasts, and we were stuffed.
After breakfast it was time to head home. Actually we werent horribly broken up about it b/c it was just so crowded, and we know well be back next year. Though we will miss Spoodles and the Yachtsman and Beaches and Cream
Over all we enjoyed all of our meals except our room service breakfast. Id recommend any of the restaurants where we ate, and if you have any questions, feel free to PM me, or post to ask!
Also, look for my VWL review on the resort board, coming soon!
