WDW Currently still lids/straws???

I’ve been here for over two weeks now. Straws are still everywhere I’ve been. It’s been hit and miss all over for lids, but I’m noticing fewer places have them. I think some counter service restaurants must be just using up the lids they have.

A man asked for a lid at the refreshment outpost yesterday for his son’s drink. The server explained that they no longer had lids for environmental reasons. The man seemed a little miffed by this. He kind of grumbled about it but left. Then I asked for an ice water and they served it to me with a lid and straw. :scratchin

I did notice the Mexican quick service had lids yesterday.
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!

We prefer to go bagless to the parks. If we bring in a cup with lid and straw for DD (she's 6 and not very coordinated), will that require us to go through bag check?

I’m thinking of bringing our resort mugs to the parks with us. I loathe to carry them! However, I prefer a lid and a straw cup. Might bring at least one and clip it to my tote bag, just to have it.

Sounds like there will be an increase in reusable mug sales. Although maybe people without kids can risk the no lids and straws. I personally don't care to be covered in drinks all week, so we'll be bringing our toddlers cups and our old reusables for ourselves. This forum is invaluable for things like this!

Just returned from 2 weeks there. Some places had lids and straws but most did not. I have typically been our "food runner", I'll go get drinks or snacks while my husband takes our dd to a shaded or cool place. It was extremely difficult this year. Balancing 3 cups of liquid without lids was a pain in the butt. I did request lids at 2 locations so I could carry the drinks easier and was denied.

Ugh! I’m sorry you had to experience that. I completely understand. I’m the family food runner too. My kids are preteen/teen, if I had toddlers again I’d be really upset with this change. It makes no sense for a family theme park to remove lids!

I can handle the no straw, but not the no lid. I will spill it everywhere. Sounds like if I want a soda now, i will buy a bottle which is even more plastic.

I hear ya! I’ve discovered Tervis cups with lids at home and love not having to worry about spilled beverages!

They’re the teenage sippy cups!!

I’m hoping this “no lid” doesn’t last long. The straws are one thing but no lid is going too far.

We just got back. Straws we could get if we asked but lids were hard to find. We were even denied a lid on our bubble tea at china booth.....

I have a toddler and a 5-year old - I just bring in a refillable water bottle and pour the kids drinks into it (99% of the time they're just drinking water anyway). No mess and no spills. I bring so much to the parks with two little ones anyway, throwing in a couple of refillable cups is no big deal!

But...even if you bring your own mugs/cups, you still have to walk the tray with all these open cups to your table. I think the greater issue is walking from the counter to the table...not so much sitting at the table.

If people sit at the counter to pour the drinks into their cups, that will definitely back the line up a lot.

I was just there over labor day weekend...one note...we had some straws in our bags when going to animal kingdom, they got removed at security....and they were not the ones from the resort...ones i had actually purchased...GRRRR

We just got back from 24/8 - 3/9 stay at YC. The first few days, they had straws at the QS in the hotel, but by day 3 they were gone. No lids at all. I didn't ask for straws because we were using the refillable mugs anyway. At restaurants it was 50/50 if we got straws or not. In most cases they would give one to my son, but not to me, so I'm sure I could've gotten one if I asked. The only thing I really wanted a straw for was milkshakes and I got them with those without asking. But with soft drinks, I'm fine without.

Were they reusable ones? I know AK never had straws and don't allow them, but not everyone knows this. I would hope one could have GS hold on to them for the day. Isn't that how it is done when people try to enter MK with a 2 inch swiss army knife that was forgotten on a key ring? Or isn't that a option anymore for the parks?

I wouldn't bother GS with a couple of disposable straws, but if I just spent $10 -15 on reusable straws and I wouldn't be happy to have them tossed.

How will be handled this with park hopping? Ok to bring and use reusable straw at MK but if you hop to AK, what do you do?

I would have to believe they were disposable straws. Reusable ones would not endanger the animals. They have always had a policy against plastic straws at AK.

Were they plastic/disposable straws? If so, there’s nothing to be angry about as those have never been allowed at AK.

I’d be upset if they were the reusable kind, though.

Can't help you guys with lids, but we just picked up a big pack of multicolored bendy straws from Walmart to keep in our Disney box (that's our own version of an Owner's Locker) for like $1.50 for 100 straws.

We just got back last night. We had straws pretty much everywhere. A few places did not have lids. The only place that didn't have a straw was CHH, but when we ate there a few days later, the straw dispensers were full.

We returned last week and lids were hard to come by. - If they had lids for kids cups and you got the adult size that the kid lid fit; I watched several ppl question why they didnt have a lid for the adult cups and while the cms would first say they could only give them for kid cups, eventually I always saw the cm give them a lid for the adult cup. I personally saw this happen on 4 different occasions. For the most part ppl weren't rude or "demanding" of it, just more dumbfounded that they were expected to walk away without a lid. Our resort has lids by the checkout area and every time I purchased something I grabbed a few lids and took them to the parks with us. It was annoying to have to carry them into the parks but it was better than not having them. I had one guy ask me where/how I got lids at MK. I explained and he was pretty annoyed with not having kids and at that time he had a cpl kid cups without lids not sure where exactly he got them without lids though but there def. were places that did not offer lids at all no matter the size.

Straws were easier to come by, but every sit down restaurant we had to request them which was annoying. - Some would ask how many to which I would always reply I think we all would like a straw...a few servers looked relieved once we brought it up and 2 apologized and told us they weren't allowed to offer them anymore and had to wait until the customer requested them. I think most of them felt uncomfortable with the situation, because in any other place it just looks like the waiter isn't doing a good job, but we knew ahead of time.

All in all, I was pretty annoyed by the situation and while it wasn't as bad as I had first imagined (only because I was constantly grabbing lids from the CM stations at our resort and carrying the lids around with me everywhere, it still left a bad taste in our mouths and I really hope they go back to normal customer service soon.
