WDW Commando Club

This is such a great thread!
I need to gather my fellow DLR commando vacationers, I feel like there are fewer of us.
I'll still take all the tips I can from here, thanks!

We were there this past March Break (and we're used to the nice late Jan/early Feb crowds)...but thanks to planning we didn't really notice a huge difference. We did everything we wanted to do multiple times.

People we know who went at the same time (non-commandos) were all "I'm never going back at March Break!! We didn't get to do anything!!"....

ok .. this is the only place in the world where i feel i might be understood. when i told my family, they just said 'that's nice'. seriously. :crazy2:

last november i started planning our entire vacation, which would start on december 17th because, at the time, i figured the free dining offer would start around that day (and if the 1st day of your trip hits the last day of free dining, the free dining lasts your entire trip). we absolutely love dining at disney, so we try to plan our trips around free dining, then upgrade to deluxe dining. i planned out 9 days (parks, dining, mvmcp, everything...) and as soon as i hit the 180 day mark, i made the reservations. i typed up the itinerary table. you know, the table that i will have laminated for the trip, that has park hours, reservations and numbers. THEN, disney announced that the free dining offer ended on the 13th ... so i totally re-worked our vacation (and managed to sneak another day into the vacation ;)), changing resort and dining reservations ... studied up on the parks and schedules. i talked to schools about getting kids out earlier than planned, made sure our pets have places to go, planned flights, etc.

so .. yesterday, disney announced that they've extended the free dining offer to the 20th of december! :faint: i think i felt my brain explode. so, now to decide .. do i re-work everything again, or leave as is ... if i move our trip, so that it starts later, the kids miss less school, we could possibly drive, etc .... but, on the other side, i have planned it all out so well! :scratchin :lmao:

just couldn't believe my family .. 'that's nice' ... pfft. :rotfl2:

I know what your talking about with the free dining offer, it seems like almost every time I book a week The free dining starts the last day we are there:mad:, I've only managed to get it once, although I did get the kids play and stay deal once, if you have a couple kids it saves you more then the free dining:thumbsup2

If your happy with the way your plans look and it will be OK for the kids to miss school then stick with it:good vibes

The one thing I would recommend during the winter months is to try to make ADR's for the 1st table sitting ( most are 5pm), since the parks close earlier, this way you can get in and out without waiting to be seated, and catch the parks while they are all lit up with all the Christmas Magic:goodvibes

I've heard this phrase for just about anytime of the year, but the thing they don't realize is the trip is only going to be good as you make it, the magic doesn't always come to you, most of the time you have to track it downpixiedust:

Okay Commandos...a trip to Florida has come up last minute. We are leaving this weekend. DH said since we would be near Orlando, we might as well go to Disney. We have one day at one park. Me and DS each picked HS. So my question is....what should be my game plan. Our big to-do's are Star Tours, Toy Story Mania, Playhouse Disney and Voyage of The Little Mermaid. And things we'd like to do, but don't have to are Indiana Jones, Muppets 3D and Beauty and the Beast. We're not sure where Fantasmic is on our list....we've never seen it, so not sure....

My game plan would be:

Toy story at rope drop then grab fast passes
Star tours
Playhouse and voyage at any time
Fit in the rest wherever you can, that will depend on the show schedule

Fantasmic is always a must do for me. It's my favorite night time show in all the parks. But the crowd can be daunting and it's up to you whether or not you feel like waiting in line and then dealing with the "running of the bulls" that occurs after the show.

I agree with this plan.

I also agree with this plan, but there is 1 thing that can change it:confused3 Are you doing Jedi Training, if you are I would sign up 1st then get a FP for TSM, the earlier you can get Jedi Training done the better, since it may interfere time wise with other shows:thumbsup2 I think you will not have any trouble getting your A & B list done completely:banana:

I found that Be Our Guest starting to take ADR's Aug 4th was only a rumor, I did try couldn't even get to show up on the screen:headache:

I think it's late Aug. like the 24th or the 28th. If anyone is really wanting to know, head over to the restaurant board, because they definitely know.

i couldn't resist... i had to make changes! :goodvibes

there are still a couple more decisions to make though, like which to choose if you can only have one or the other ... MVMCP or La Nouba? :confused3 my family and i have never been to either.

any suggestions?

Myself personally I would pick MVMCP, the meet & greets + the parade and other events :teacher: Awesome pics, makes it all worth it, we have done it once and had a blast, the only downfall is with so much going on if you go on rides your going to miss something:scared:

We have never gone to La Nouba or the other shows they have had, we considered it but the tickets are really expensive and they do travel to some areas close to us so if we go it would be while we are home with nothing big planned:confused3
