WDW Commando Club

COMPUTER SCAM ALERT!!!!!! Today I received a call from a company called: Instant Tech Care phone#'s:858-429-9800, and 716-886-9358. They will claim that your computer is infected by a bug that is invisible to your anti-virus software and will offer to "fix" it for free. They are also claiming that they are calling on behalf of Microsoft. The long distance # is based out of Buffalo NY, so if they managed to find my phone #, what's to say that you won't get a call. They will claim that Microsoft has had a breach, and your computer is infected. I contacted a computer teck friend that's very good and up to date on these things, and was told that if you go along with what they want to you do, they will infect your system with a nasty virus/malware/spyware and disable your anti-virus software. All they got out of me was a 20 mins grilling (they deserved it!), and I refused to let them anywhere near my computer.

Thanks for the info:eek: I hate scammers it's surprising how many people get takin:scared1: Good for you Give Them Hell:woohoo:

Now a few things I have added to the must do list

- Ziti Sisters, we were walking by when they came out (Epcot Italy) so we stayed for the show, let me tell you I was crackin up the whole show:lmao: My wife and I even got picked as The Bride & Groom in a mock wedding:lmao:

- The new band in UK, I didn't know how they would compare to the old band, but they played songs I was more familiar with (The Who, Kinks etc)

- Electrical Water Pageant viewed from the dock behind The Contemporary, only 8 other people were there, great close view with no one in the way, you can't really see the fireworks though the Bay Lake Tower kinda blocks the view

I was a victim of identity theft 6 years ago. They racked up over $350,00CDn in my name. It took months, and a great deal of time to clear my name. At the time it was the largest case of Identity theft our local police had ever seen, and at one point I had police in 5 different jurisdictions fighting for a piece of the case. It has since naturally made me suspicious of anything that sounds odd. I roasted 2 people from this so called company over the coals for 20 mins, until they got fed up with my annoyingly determined refusal to let them get access to my computer. I gave it to them good, then did multiple deep scans of my computer to make sure it was clean. I guess they were expecting an easy target, they found out very quickly that I was anything but. I have to admit that they sounded very convincing, and an average person would be taken in by them. That's why I posted it to this thread and let my friends know so that they will use caution if these turkey's come a calling. My teckie friend has had multiple calls from them, and am sure that I will be hearing from them again in the future.

WOW:scared1: I hope they did not try to hold you to paying any of that:eek: Did they get caught:confused3 They should spend the rest of thier days in jail

The person who did this used a fake Alberta Drivers License, a fake middle middle name, and my maiden name. Not sure if you've heard of the Royal Bank, a major bank up here, but their lawyers are major sleaze buckets, and are as slimy as you can get. This person bought a house in my name, and I found out about it 3 months later when the bank came a callin' for the money on a mortgage that I didn't have with the bank. I started to smell a rat, and put fraud alerts on Equifax and Transunion. Just after I decided to call the police, as I was chatting with one of our police officers at my place, another company called me, since the fraud alert was up and this person was trying to rack up a major amt of debit in a short period of time. The total would have been higher, but thanks to my actions I thwarted her from doing further damage. I kept detailed records of who, what, when in regards to who I spoke to, which really aided the police in their criminal investigations.

I had lots of fun, as the house was turned into a drug house, and I got the full report of all the drug use, police calls, and it was eventually put a fire (arson), and burned down. The bank had fun seizing possession of the house, and the shame of it, was that it was a perfect house for a family just starting out. What a waste. It took me months, around $150CDN in postage, and photo copying, and a royal pain in the butt, but I did manage to clear my name. The person was caught 2 years later. But I question who in the meantime while she was on the lam, could have sold my personal info to, so I'm always on guard, and don't give my personal info to anyone ever, unless it's financial related. It's an experience I don't wish to have repeat anytime soon. At least with her using my maiden name, she never accessed my credit cards or banking info, and was the only thing that was never breached. But I locked that down just in case.

The police and a combination of things enabled me not to pay for anything other than alot of time, and misc things like postage (had to send everything registered mail). I flat out refused to have anything notarized, since there was so many companies involved, and told them that if they were stupid enough to fall for her scam, then they were going to have to write it off as a bad mistake, which all the companies involved did, but not before me giving them a good piece of my mind for them falling for such an obvious scam. I felt that by having things notarized I was being penalized, and basically being accused of what had happened, which it was their mess. I basically had to prove to all involved that I was who I said I was and that it was someone else that had incured the debts with them and not me. Alot of fun. The Royal Bank lawyers told me it was my fault it happened. I ripped a pile of strips off of them for those comments.

WOW I'm glad you were able to clear your good name:goodvibes I hope she is spending alot of years behind bars, you would think with all the tech out there all these banks would have a better grip on things, since it is going to effect there fat bonus they like to give themselves:confused3

I agree, but I met with the manager of the branch of the bank that signed off on the loan, and pardon my language, but he was a complete and utter fool, that had is assistant do everything for him, and was completely out of touch with reality. The banks are only as strong as the people that staff them, and if you've got a manager that's completely clueless mistakes can happen. Don't get me wrong, he was a nice enough person, but lacked a suspicious nature, and was willing to give a loan to anyone that wanted one. Last thing I heard was that he was either demoted, or fired after this incident. When asked, I like to tell my tale of Identity Theft, so that others can learn from it and take precautions so that it won't happen to them. I never viewed myself as a victim throughout this experience, but viewed it that I was battling someone who wanted to do me harm when it came to my finances. After the 4th company called, I knew I was in way over my head, and that's when I called the police. But not before I put fraud alerts up everywhere, and made detailed notes that I could hand over to the police.

I just started my trip report if anyone is interested in following along it is titled

Almost Anything Can Happen On A Commando WDW Vacation

I would post the direct link, but as you might already know I haven't learned the art of posting links or pics:lmao: I'm a out in the field, hands on type, office work is not my thing:confused3

Yay!! A place to celebrate my slightly crazy slightly controlling side.
Yes, slightly I say. :rotfl2:

Welcome! I went to the TA this morning, and have all the travel docs for our Sept trip to DL. The kids are still clueless, but DS 8 is starting to watch me closely, time for a switch in tactics. Now whenever we go out, we say we're going to either DL or WDW just to confuse them like crazy. DH is happy with the plans I have for the Aug/2015 trip, so that part of the trip itinerary is for the most part locked up, now just have to over plan and save for the trip. Have a great day!

What is your countdown at:woohoo: How is your hand doing:goodvibes

I'm at 15 days and counting down for our DL trip. The hand, I got frustrated with wrapping it, and other than taking ibuprofen as needed for the inflammation, it's doing OK. Yesterday I maxed it out with 2 full loads of stuff in the van, one to Value Village (not sure if you have them up your way, but you can donate stuff there, and a portion of the proceeds goes to charity), and another to our old place for storage. I've been dejunking all year, and have taken 5 van loads of stuff there to make space. It's feeling a little out of sorts today, so will have to take care I don't stress it out further. I've got the kids still in the dark about the trip, but DS8 spotted that I had written a note something about picking up tickets yesterday, so I told him that I was picking up a lottery ticket to cover my tracks. So today I'm going to pickup a scratch and win ticket to throw him off the scent so to speak. I've got major problems with our elderly greyhound, and may have to put him down just before the trip. We are accessing him on a daily basis, and while he may surprise us, and live longer, I give him from 2 to 6 weeks. I've contacted the greyhound adoption group that we are good terms with, and have let them know what's going on. We have a good relationship with them, and have an automatic approval of any future dogs we want to adopt. It's just a matter of contacting them once Dozer our elderly male greyhound dies, and make arrangements to give another greyhound their forever home with us.

Started a plan of action to go to WDW twice next year, if things work out it will be the last week in June & the 1st week in Nov:cool1: Otherwise it will be the end of August:rolleyes1

So right now I'm feeling good about this since I have 2 months to get it all together, since I would book ADR's at 180 days to the minute and day it gives me till Jan 18th to book something:woohoo: Hope I can pull it off:confused3

We're packing today!! It's quite cool already up here, so we can pack most of our stuff and have it waiting. We don't fly out until the 27th, but it takes a whole day to drive down to the airport:scared1::laughing: So we're going 2 days early so we can visit with family as well.

I've changed one of our meals; cancelled our DTD visit for our first day, as it finally hit me just how early we'll have to get up, and what a long day it's going to be. We'll do WPC later in the week. Instead, we'll eat in the food court and have a swim before hitting the hay early. lol!
