DVC Chit Chat Thread

I'll usually see a shirt or something that I really like on every trip. I typically won't buy it right away, but I'll notice it in every shop during the trip. Usually I cave on the last day and buy it. Sometimes I wait and end up buying it the next time.

Recently I've started buying my wife a candle that I bring home when I'm on a solo trip. I like this IASW one that I got recently:

How have I never seen these?! Where on property can you get them?

There is really no going back to a studio, unless it's for 2 person. 1BR and above makes DVC magical. Studio just enable us to buy in for cost savings.
I am bringing my daughter (6) and two nieces (17 and 19) on a trip this summer for my nieces' graduation present. Originally booked a studio for us at AKL Kidani, and was miserable at the idea of four of us in one room with one bathroom on two beds. So, I switched to a one-bedroom and am giving myself the King bed in the bedroom and giving the three of them the two pull-downs in the living room lol. I am paying for everything, so I don't feel guilty about giving myself the extra space!

We are bringing our entire family to WDW next summer. Eight adults and two 5 year olds. Still in the initial planning stages but I'd really like to have everyone stay at the GV at VGF since the TV room could serve as a 4th bedroom instead of getting four 1 bedrooms for everyone. It would be nice to be in one central place but I need to speak with my kids to see what the group prefers.

I wasn't getting notifications from this thread so I'm very far behind. Here I go...playing catch-up......

I was shocked when on our last trip I didn't buy a single souvenir. Normally I am the one telling my husband to go start the credit card and have it warmed up lol. We have a lot of stuff already, so something has to really speak to me at this point.

I'll be curious to see if we back off on purchasing as much over the next couple years. The last few years, our trips have mostly been 12-18 months apart. But for the next couple years...we'll be alternating between DLR and WDW...with a trip basically every 6 months or so. I suspect we won't purchase quite as much since we tend to stick with pins and mugs and they don't get new ones we like all that often.

But we'll see, I guess.

We just moved and I’ve been struggling with what to do, I love this idea, but I’m trying to keep themes to certain rooms, so too many pavilions for one room. Well not really, but the livingroom already has a direction.

I am thinking of just some Disney park blueprints for old school rides or lands, etc. for the office.

We also kinda have “explorer” type of thing going already in the livingroom, so some DISNEY S.E.A stuff may work well in there, so we may add on to that.

We found some really cool stuff out there, but it can get pricey quick. lol

We bought 11x14 (I think?) sized attraction posters on amazon. Not officially liscened or anything but we don't care. We have other ones directly purchased from Disney a few years ago but wanted to get more to put in our son's room. Still need to get some frames though.

We stupidly thought we'd be fine to just stay in a studio for WDW since we fly and don't typically fuss with laundry. But then we ended up in a 1-bedroom at BRV last year and I was surprisingly happy to do some laundry one day. So now I think we'll be sticking with a 1-bedroom as much as possible.

We were back in a studio for our Disney trip after that (VGC) and it was fine. But I'm excited to have purchased enough points to get us in 1-bedrooms at DLR for (hopefully) all future trips. We liked to drive so the whole trip ends up being close to 2 weeks. It's nice to do laundry instead of bringing a bunch of stuff. And I'm really excited about the 2 bathrooms!

We’re currently booked in a 2br at BWV for January 2027 for our group of 6. My kids are begging me to stay in a cabin in FW instead. We’ve never stayed there but we’ve visited several times and they love it. It would be a lot less points, but we’d be more squished then in the 2 br. I would prefer BWV, but my kids don’t usually make any special requests on our trips so I’d feel bad not giving in and making them happy. My DH doesn’t care either way lol. Of course this is assuming I’ll be able to get two weeks in a cabin at 7 months. Maybe I won’t and the whole thing will be moot. Or maybe I’ll just tell them I can’t? Lol.

They’re older, 10, 15,18 and 21.

With those ages...I can't imagine being in a cabin for more than a night or 2. That's a lot of grown people in a small space with 1 bathroom. And no washer/dryer. Two cabins would probably be nice but for 2 weeks...I'd definitely want a washer/dryer. But maybe the laundry facilities at Ft. Wilderness aren't bad if you wanted to use those.

Otherwise, a split stay might be the way to go.

We brought the cousins and the little cousins last September. Eight adults and 5 kids between 5 and 2. We had a GV at BLT and they all said OMG when they saw how awesome the room was. Staying together was the best part. And we had plenty of room even when my college age son and his roommate drove up from West Palm 🤫

One of the best things about the in room laundry is being able to wash/dry your pool clothes between uses. There have been times, especially on short trips we have used it solely for that purpose. Especially since our family is obsessively concerned about UV rays, so there are UPF Shirts and bathing suits which take a while to dry...

This is another reason I think the cabins really miss the mark by not having in-room washer/dryer. You have to bring your own towels to the pool...and then you can't even wash/dry them in your room when done. Big bummer for those who enjoy swimming, I'm sure.

Two 2bdrms could work nice too, but a bunch of 1bdrms is a waste, if you’re going to separate that much just get one 1bdrm to gather, then a bunch of studios. IMO

Yeah, I think that it's going to be really fun! Especially having a main place to gather but then also having places for people to take the kiddos (or adults lol) if they need downtime. I haven't personally organized a trip with this many people but totally up for the challenge.

You have to bring your own towels to the pool?? Boy, I didn’t know that one. Between the no washer/dryer for me and no workout facility for my DH (he goes every day, even on vacation), we knew the cabins wouldn’t work for us. Disappointed because it would have been nice for a resorts only trip to have the possibility of bringing the dogs.

I've never stayed there so maybe someone will correct me if I'm wrong. But I recall reading that they don't have towels at the pools like the other DVC resorts.

Maybe. If each of those eight adults is a couple with one or more children, they might want separate sleeping spaces for the adults.

I know I would.

Also (and IMO): the common area of a 1BR is way too small for the eight adults, let alone those plus the five kids.
