I'm not exactly sure what would be the best board to post this on, but I figured anything flies on the Community board, so here it goes. Thursday here at Mount Union College, the Walt Disney World College program was on campus recruiting new interns. I picked up a brochure and noted that there was an informational meeting later on in the evening. I figured I'd stop by and check it out, just to get some additional information. Turns out to be a prety cool presentation, and the next thing you know, they're interviewing me for the position. I won't know for a few more weeks whether or not they've accepted me, but I seemed to impress them with my "Disney Knowledge!"

I am curious whether or not anyone has gone through this program, or if anyone has some general infro about it. (Pros / Cons) Any information would be greatly appreciated. It seems like a great opportunity, but I'm sketchy on the details.

Someone please fill me in!!!

Well, good luck, Andrew. Hope you get it if you want it. I know there are a lot of DIS fols who have been in the CPCM program and some are currently in it. I think all have enjoyed it to one degree or another. I know I have met a number of them over the years and all seemed so very nice, good kids.

I am sure you have this link, from the meeting and brochures, but just in case........

Again, my best. :earsboy:

I was in the CP from Jan-Jun of 2003. If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a PM.

I did the college program in Hospitality from jan 1999 to July of 1999. Feel free to send me a PM if you like.

It was by far the best experience of my life and I would do it over again 100 times in a heart beat if I could!

I know some of the guests can be quite obnoxious. I remember one really awful one in particular that posted here. He seemed to think he could sneak up into the concierge lounge at WL and take pictures. When he was asked to leave, he berated the CM's. Hopefully you won't run into anyone like that.

Andrew, you'll find lots of CP alums on this board! There are also quite a few WDWCP parents on the board, as well. Check the "DD is leaving for the CP" thread on the Budget Board. I'm an alum from Fall 2002.

Congratulations on your interview, by the way! I know they say that you'll hear in 2-3 weeks, but I got all of my stuff in less than a week. I think it really depends on your recruiter and how long their recruiting trip is. I hope you got in! It's definitely an experience you can't have anywhere else.

There are a ton of websites devoted to the college program out there, with alums ready and willing to answer any of your questions. You might try http://www.disneycp.net or http://www.wdwcp.org, for starters.

LOL Gepetto - I remember that post.
Good luck to you Andrew and if you happen to end up working at WL, I sure hope you dont run into that nasty guest, LOL!

*shrug* Given your opinions on homosexuality, would you really like to be around that many gay people? When I was there (June-August 1999), 2 out of 6 of the guys next door were gay, and that was pretty typical. You can't really request a "straight" apartment.

DD joined the CP in January of 2002 for "one semester". She's STILL there(working, not in CP anymore). It was a good thing for our DD. Good luck!

The College Program......

The basic con is.....most do not get to work where they desire. Another could be, transportation around town...bring a car if you can (not only will it be great for you to travel, but you will be instantly popular!)

Most CP's really hate it the first few weeks, and they want to go home......we try to tell them, just come to work and enjoy it.

The Pro's....it is a life experience, you get Disney on your resume (and outside companies LOVE Disney on a resume), you meet GREAT people (the Guest and the Cast)....you can learn about business.

Most of CP's who hate it at first and lasts throughout thier program....they leave with not wanting to leave because of the friends they have met and they leave in tears.

I say just do it! It can't hurt you at all it can only help your with your future.:D

And since you'll be able to park in employee parking, you won't have to sneak it onto the hotel lots!

I'm so pleased that Andy is thinking of becoming an "elf." I must join Geppetto in hoping that they don't put him in charge of guarding the Concierage floor however. What if somebody really large with a popping vein showed up and tried to intimidate him?

Security is only a phone call away....and that is one thing that has not waivered at Disney. Security is GREAT!

Good luck - I hope it works out well for you. I wish I had known about those programs when I was a young adult. It is a wonderful opportunity.

:)
