WDW CLOSING AT 1:00 pm TODAY

I just heard this on the weather channel. They said Animal Kingdom, water parks and downtown disney closed all day.

For some reason TL is closed but BB is open until 1:00. Maybe because BB is more popular the TL. Either way I wouldn't be going to a waterpark today.

And Universal is open until 2:00....no word yet on Sea World.

Wow, this is one day I can actually say I'm glad I'm at home and not at WDW.:teeth:

What are they going to do about the dolphins and the whales? Poor them.

Send some good wishes down to the folks CAMPING at Fort Wilderness!! :earseek: We have a travel trailer, but can you imagine the people tent camping there!!?? Wonder if Disney will offer to move the tenters into a resort for the day/night.

We stayed in Fort Wilderness in Dec. 2002. Anyone who was there that week remembers it well!! 10" of rain that week!! Fort Wilderness does flood (and if you don't believe me, I have photos of ducks swimming in front of the Settlement Depot!!) and some of the site across the way from us were under water as well as all the walkways.:(

We were also there during Erin and it was an experience we will never forget! I remember being in the Magic Kingdom at Cinderella's royal table and we asked our server how serious was this? He said in his 15 years working there, that that was the first time he saw them filling sand bags. (I'm sure they are filling them now!). He said that we were in the safest place in FL for a storm like that.

I also remember that in the parks, anything that could be removed was! Garbage cans, tables, chairs etc. The shopping carts that were around the park that couldn't be removed were being bolted down with steal cables. They had a hurricane info station in each hotel lobby and those resorts that had food courts had extended hours (I think it was til around 2am). All pools were closed.

The parks were open the next day, but opened late (11am I believe). When you entered the parks, they did a real good job with the clean up. I remember a cast member told us that some of the "bricks" from the castle had to be replaced (they are not real bricks, styrofoam (sp)) because they blew off during the storm. You woundn't have known about the castle unless you were told because it looked great. There were still some twigs and little things around, but nothing like the surrounding grounds outside the Disney resort area.

Eveyone who is there, be safe! Have some fun too! This will be a trip you will not forget!

Sea World is closing at 1pm also. Busch Gardens is closed for the entire day.

I believe that back when Erin hit, those people at Fort Wilderness were able to go into the community hall ( I think that is what they call it). It was a big camp out. I know that Disney has an entire plan for that area if it gets real bad.

Everyone stay safe!

I guess if I had to be somewhere during a hurricane, WDW is where I would want to be.

How will the AKL big full-wall window hold up? Anyone know how thick that glass actually is?

I wonder how many will look for freebies since the parks are closed

Hope everyone is safe!

I have a friend who works for the county in Sanford and he is on alert to staff a shelter today if necessary.

Boy, if DD was open they would be making money hand over fist--there is nothing else to do but shop! And I wonder if the pools are closed all day? It looks OK there right now.
I love BWV, but people there today do have to venture out to eat since there is no food court--I hope they are able to get to BC or S/D safely to get some food!

I bet WDW will bus in Characters to the resorts...have movie/story times in lobbies..I'm sure they'll make the most of it.

kinda of like 'rainy day activities' at camp. hehehe

Personally I would hope that the characters were able to go home to be with there families and try to be safe. Entertaining guests at resorts should not be the 1st priority under these circumstances. I think people need to get real here for a minute. Disney may be Fantasy but the hurricane is reality.

Really sounds like they're closing down everything there. I would think most restaurants will have to stay open at the resorts though - people have to eat.
