I just saw a cast member from WDW speaking about new passport requirements today on Breakfast Television in Toronto. This could answer alot of the questions that are posted on the boards lately.:thumbsup2

Also right now when you go to the passport office they want proof that you are going on vacation. They actually took down info from the flight booking we had for DS application

The passport application has always had a section requesting details of coming flights. This is nothing new. One does not need to have immediate travel plans in order to apply for a passport.

That is true, but because of the backlog and scramble of people trying to beat the deadline because they left it to the last minute, they're asking non-essential applications to wait.

If you request a passport for travel before the deadline you DO have to provide travel itinerary and proof of plane ticket purchased if you want your passport before the deadline. That is what the OP was referring to not the standard request for details.

any word on how long it is taking to get the passports done now? I applied in dec and was told at that time it would be 20 days. but that time has come and gone! I still have 25 days til we leave, i hope i will be alright?

I also applied 1st week in December and still haven't received mine or my kids passports. We fly on Wednesday!!!! From what I've been told I will be allowed back in Canada without a passport when the new rules have taken affect. I sure hope so.

The issue is not returning to Canada, but flying into the USA.

Canada isn't requiring you to have a passport to enter Canada. The USA is requiring all air travellers that fly into the US to have a passport.

we couriered ours in and they received it nov 29, heard nothing until today!!!! Told my dh it would take 2 weeks (our documents included Air Canada itinerary), he says no, we travel Jan 23. She talks to supervisor and they say it will be mailed to us before our trip and not to worry.

Hope she's right otherwise we can't travel.

The 1800567-6868 number for passport office is really really difficult to get through.

tell me about it, i tried for 3 days and the number is constantly busy. i went to a service centre as was recommended on the website, but they kept my daughter original birth certifcate and even if the passports DONT come on time, i can't enter the states without her birth certificate :confused3

If you marked your travel date on application and sent it in by mail in december you are probably fairly close to having the application looked at.

Monday morning, start calling that number at 7:29:59 am exactly and there's a good chance you can get through. It took me 3.5 hours of trying to finally get through.

they only keep 25 people on hold at 1 time, makes no sense really.

They have all our original documents so we couldn't travel without the birth certificates either.

you still have 25 days so hopefully you can get it done, but I'd call monday to see how far the mail-in applications are proceeding. Apparently they are really delayed. good luck

In the London Free Press this morning, they reported that there is a 3-5 week turnaround on the passport applications.

We dropped ours off at our MP's office the first week of December on the Thursday. He was taking them down on the Sunday. I just noticed that the charges were put on our Visa this past week. Hopefully that is a sign that they have been processed and will be arriving shortly!! We go on the March Break so we should be ok (I hope!!).
