Can it be done? My Mom was supposed to be going with us but she keeps wishy washing and I'm afraid she will back out. She's afraid of flying and I really don't want to drive with 2 kids for 22 hours, not to mention we are crunched for time.

My kids will be 2 and 8 when we go. Has anyone done this by themselves?

I went with an 8 y/o and 4 y/o in 2002, then again in 2004 - my mother was with me, but ended up spending very little time with us other than meals, so for the most part I was alone with the kids (either that, or pushing the wheelchair she decided she needed). I will be driving us down (just me and the kids) this summer and am not looking forward to that part, but had no problems at WDW at all. We had discussed ahead of time that DD would have to sit some rides out if her little brother was too small for them - and we'd plan to do those attractions on a later visit. This worked very well. I'd recommend a stroller for the 2 y/o, but otherwise go for it! You'll have a great time!

Do you think your mom would be willing to try medication for her fear of flying? I'm also afraid of flying, but Xanax worked well for me. Perhaps her doctor could suggest something for her.

Not exactly sure what the deal is with Mom, she even refused to let Dad drive her down. :confused3

I may have the "talk" with DS closer to time about sitting some of the rides out. He's scared of heights so it probably won't be a problem. ;)

When are you going? We might be able to meet up with you for a while if you want. We have a 4 yo and my DH and I...We could even do some ride swapping so that your DS and you could go on some rides together.

I've done WDW alone for a few days by myself with children ages 4, 6, and 8. It was great! I was planning on doing it again this summer; but, babysitter really wants to come along. When I went alone, I explained to my older child that she would not be able to ride some rides since her brother was too young and she was okay with that. My husband flew down later in the trip for 2 days and took her on some big kid rides. WDW is so great for traveling alone with the kids. I feel so safe and taken care of. I hate driving alone with the kids (I always get lost) so I love the WDW transportation. Since my husband can never take a week off, I've decided that WDW will be our summer vacation every year. Right now, it's the only place I can imagine taking them by myself. Most people don't understand this and think I'm crazy for attempting it. But, these are people who stay offsite and try to cram everything into one or two days. We always stay on-site at Deluxe Resort on the concierge level. That makes everything so easy. And since I'm not paying for DH to be there the whole time, I can justify the expense.

I havent traveled alone with my kids for the most part my husbands cousin has been with us. She bailed one day and I took the kids to SW by myself they were 31/2 and 21/2 no biggie.

At least once a year since they were 4 and 6, and we usually drive. I love having the uninterupted time with my kids and they are great travelers.

I go with my kids by myself quite often. They are now 6&8. I love those trips more then any others we take. My older daughter knows that we can't go on rides her little sister isn't tall enough for and is just fine with that. I say go for it and have a great time!

I was thinking of taking mine in October by myself. They are great kids, but I'm a little worried. I'm just going to wait and see. I'd like for them both to be big enough to ride anything they want to ride. I'm not sure how DS would handle sitting out rides.

HI. I took our two girls by myself in April. It was wonderful! I found that if we took frequent breaks for play areas and/or ice cream we were fine in the parks. We also discussed at great length that vacation was a "no fight zone". There were to be severe consequences for fighting with each other. Like no swiming for 15 min, ect. I never had to enforce it! I would be sure that you are staying on site to have easy access to your hotel. Take along a backpack with box drinks, snacky foods, water sandals for the water play area and rides and extra sun screen. Go to the parks before they open. It makes a huge difference on what you can do without the long waits. If you can, try to make ps' for some character meals. Sometimes the lines to see the characters for free get pretty long. If you do your pics and autographs in a more controlled atmospher it won't be so hard to walk past the characters in the parks. Relax, you will have a great time!

Thanks everyone!! I have decided that I am going for it! :moped: ::MickeyMo

This might be the only chance I have to take them and I would feel terrible if I didn't even try to take them.

We went on a weekend road trip (Fri-Sun nights) and the kiddos were great. The only problems we had were in the last 15 minutes before home when the youngest fell apart because he was tired of riding (we had been on the road close to 7 hours with minimal breaks) and just wanted to be home. So we are planning to fly the shortest route to WDW and have a great time!

Are there plenty of rides for a 2 year old?

I met up with 2 girlfriends in October who each brought just their 2 kids (ages 4 and 2) and left their DH's at home. They shared a room at the Poly and they survived. I'm sure they would say they would do it again.
