WDW Anonymous(e): Signs of addiction

Last September DD29 and I went to WDW, just the two of us. We've been doing WDW together since my DH passed away and DD divorced. One night we got into a fight (mom-daughter stuff). She was still mad the next day and we had it out again while doing laundry at the resort. The anger finally eased up, and a few days later it was time for her DME bus back to MCO. I said, "Well, Goodbye. I guess you won't want to go back to WDW with me next year. Maybe we could make plans for a couple of years from now?" DD turned to me and said, "I WANT TO GO BACK WITH YOU, NEXT YEAR!!!"

My name is POOHsie and I am a Disney Addict. pooh:
And so is my DD.:tink:

This is so true. It's been 2 months since my last trip and I am going crazy - two years until my next one! When we got back, I promised myself I would stay off the Dis for at least 6 months and try to get some distance. Instead I am here every day and have started planning a trip to Disneyland for our off year in order to get me over the bump. But I can quit any time, really...

My high school students laugh because I surf Disney sites and listen to Disney Pandora channel during my lunch break.

I put Disney-related questions on all of my tests and finals (I teach Literature, so it IS all about stories . . . "Disney World is _____; it is situated on over 25,000 acres." Yes. Immense is the vocab word for which I am looking).

I connect every text we read to a Disney song, movie, or character.

I cannot go to bed without checking for elusive dining reservations.

When I have secured every reservation I want for my entire trip at exactly the right time, I then search for reservations I do not want. Not to book them. Just to see if they are available.

I read every biography of Walt Disney I can get my hands on.

My 8 year old daughter just told my brother, "Mommy always talks about Disney. Disney Disney Disney. Dad will be telling us about his day and Mom says, "So, what do you want to ride at Disney World?"

When I vacation other places, I wish I were at Disney World.

I check wait times every few hours or so. Just because.

Wow. I am not even done with my list yet and I can see that I have a problem. Er, hobby.

It's very possible my best friend and I have an 8 year plan in place to visit all the parks plus Aulani. And it's also possible that we threw a wrench in our own plans by first booking a Disney cruise. AND it's extremely possible we still plan to go to either DL or WDW once per year (at least). But I don't see how this is a problem. Excuse me while I go figure out which of my MANY Disney mugs to drink out of tonight.

I am so jealous of all of you who have friends/family members to share in your addiction. My DH loves Disney (to the point where he has begun talking about wanting to move to Orlando once the kids are out of the house in the very distant future), but he does not want to talk about it/plan nearly to the extent that I do. I think he would have me locked away if he knew how often it actually entered my mind.

::yes:::wizard:::yes::::yes::::yes::::yes::
Tolerance: need a longer trip to get fix
Withdrawal: post-trip blues
Craving: restlessly pine for next trip
WDW-seeking behavior: endless plotting and strategizing to justify one more trip
Preoccupation: hours spent planning real or imaginary trips
Need for eye-opener: read message boards before breakfast
Trouble cutting down: ignore objections to another trip from significant other
Secrecy: embarrassed to tell others you are going again; plan in private; hide souvenirs
Stockpiling: collect items for trip months in advance
Pre-loading: listen to parks music and Disney podcasts during journey
Guilt: can't afford trip that you are taking anyway
Single-minded focus: forget that there is a real world to vacation in and discuss
Regret: exhaustion, burnout, poverty and desire never to return...until a week after trip
Rationalization: tell self all the walking makes the trip essential for health
Remorse and promises not to relapse: tell self and spouse next trip is last hurrah
Relapse: go again anyway
Denial: buy DVC

The cure: accept you are powerless over your addiction, refuse rehabilitation, and get an annual pass with water park add-on

Yes?
I just got back five days ago and am simultaneously planning my next two trips.

Ummmm......I need to join. :) We are averaging going every few months now. I love our spring break trip, because it is longer though...

Hobby, eh? I'm good with that. It's an expensive hobby, but, ok it's a hobby.

Addiction? Is planning a trip for December 2017 that DW says will never happen an addiction? Nah.

Waiting 6 months to get my car license plate-GRUMPY 7- an addiction? Nah

I buy Disney coffee mugs to the point that I could use a different one every day of the month. Addiction? Nah

I'M ON HERE AT 11:45 P.M. ADDICTION? NAH. I'M FINE! IT'S YOU WHO ARE CRAZY

I'm from the UK. If it's a medical condition do you think I could get a trip prescribed on the NHS?

Oh I hope so!

My DBF thinks it was bad enough that BEFORE we had even left for our 1st trip, I was pricing a 2nd trip.....:surfweb:

My sign of addiction - I've actually thought about switching careers because I'm a teacher and the only times I can go to Disney with my family are during crowded holidays and hot summers. I would love to just be able to take a week off and go during the slow, cool weather months.

Yes!! Finally--a diagnosis for my "ailment". o_O I decided to upgrade my ticket to an annual pass during our trip 12/15--which has given me an "excuse" to go more often. Soooo--Pop 2/15--POFQ 5/15--POFQ 9/15--POFQ 11/15!! Thanks for the help with explaining my condition to Disney non-believers.

I am taking half a day off from work to book my FP+. My window opens at 6 a.m. local time, after I'm done I'm going back to bed for an hour or two and arrive at work around noon. My priorities are different from my colleagues :P

Oh my. . . Career change to support a Disney addiction is a pretty strong symptom! Hanging out with all these enablers isn't going to help you one bit, though. :tilt:

This message is proof that I am having trouble avoiding the people, places and things that serve as triggers.
