Has anyone heard that the budget for the 50th celebration has been gutted because of financial issues. I heard this from someone who used to work at WDW and still has a lot of contacts there. Has anyone else heard anything like this. I was holding off planning a 2021 trip waiting for the Anniversary dates to be released.

The 50th is going to be interesting. Several projects are canceled or postponed. They will still do things but probably not as grand as it could’ve been.

I don't think Disney can ignore or forget the 50th but it certainly will be a modified experience. How modified will depend on the vaccine's success.

If entertainment venues and shows can be brought back in some form it may be possible to get a celebration out of the anniversary.

I did hear they canceled the new night time spectacular parade but still possible they do the night time electric parade or something like that.

MickeyViews discussed a recent permit filing under the name “Project Nugget” in a video yesterday. He’s under the impression, because where the project location takes place is on the fireworks pad behind MK, that its a new nighttime show for the 50th. He was the first to report on not only EPCOT Forever, but Harmonious as well. So, even though it could be taken with a grain of salt now, I think its coming from a reliable enough source to take seriously.

Speaking of Harmonious, theyve restarted work on the barges for the show.

So it looks like Disney has every intention to bring nighttime shows back when they can

They will celebrate the 50th. That's a milestone birthday. Disney tries to make every year a milestone year though lol. Disney 65 lol that's not more special then every five year gap.

It certainly won't be as large as originally planned, but you know they will want to sell the merchandise. Disney most likely expects some capacity constraints in place still so they have to cut back. 2021 is still unknown so I do expect its very small compared to what was planned. They are going to be cautious and small but we will see some new things as some are unable to be cancelled. Disney Cruise lines (they tried to cancel but we're not allowed) is getting a new boat , there is some construction going on (things they couldn't cancel or had already paid for). But yes I believe this rumor it will certianly be much smaller then originally planned. Disney has to capacity isn't even possible to know.

Martin on WDWmagic said its for upgrades to the launch site that are long over due and not specifically for a new show.

I heard the same... I'm super sad about losing a new nighttime parade. MK is so overdue, and it would've made the years without a nighttime parade worth the wait. I know they can bring back an old or existing parade, but still... 😭

‘Could be just upgrades, but it’s not that far fetched that they’d have a new show for the anniversary. It’s not like Disney is broke, and a new fireworks show wouldn’t set them back the way a new nighttime parade would. So while it might be upgrades, I wouldn’t count out a new “temporary” show

Of course but as always rumors are rumors for a reason. I don’t want hopes getting up.

Well, if the Nugget is Golden, then that fits the Golden Anniversary at WDW

He also is reporting that part of this will be projection mapping on Main St, and then there is the rumor over at WDW Magic about Paint the Night coming to WDW for the 50th

Given financials, maybe upgrading Happily Every After with some projections about and then bringing over an existing night time parade could be a pretty economical way to have a pretty big impact at WDW that guests I think would be pretty jazzed about

That'd be cool. I really like HEA, so I kind of want it to stick around a little longer. And I'm always up for a nighttime parade, I don't care if it's new or old. I've only seen MSEP...which I adore...so Paint the Night would be new to me.

I would love it if Paint the Night came over. Sure, it’s a rehash and WDW probably deserves something new, but it’s not in the cards right now. Something is better than nothing. I hope HEA comes back (if the rumors are true). It’s my personal favorite nighttime show

I would love if Paint the Night came over too. It’s fun, energetic and visually stunning. I know it was rumored a while ago and remember people saying it would never happen because Mack wouldn’t be able to do the MK route. Now I have to look into the resurrected rumor!

I would be just as happy with Paint the Night as I would be with something totally new.

Yeah, they would have to cut the Mack float but still would be worth it - maybe we could get one new float/section as there are a few differences b/w what is in Hong Kong vs California

I’d think they could scrounge up the budget for a new float or two. But I cant even pretend I have any knowledge on 1) if they were working on floats for a new nighttime parade prior to the shutdown and 2) How long it would take for them to build a new float or two in the first place.

It was only around for what, 2 maybe 3 years? So even if you bring it to WDW it would still be “new” to a lot of people. I got to see it when I went to DLR in 2017 on my way back from Aulani and its just a very fun parade. A lot of energy. I think it would be a hit in WDW. If its not a legitimate rumor yet, I hope it becomes one
