Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering - is it possible to apply for both the college program and the professional internship at the same time? My goal would be to do the PI, but I would love to the CP as well.

Yes. I did it and many others did as well. If you are offered a PI, you can then decline your CP and they will transfer the housing fee over for you, if you decide to live in the housing. If not, you just lose the $105. This is what usually happens since the PI takes a lot longer to hear back from than the CP.

I got my rejections from PI before I got my acceptance to the CP

Thanks guys! Would it be a problem to change from the CP to the PI? I would prefer to do the PI before the CP (just because it fits more with my field of study). Either way, I want to go down to Disney and work in either program. Would it be a problem to change the housing (from CP to PI) if I get it? Do you know how much the PI pays around? Or what work it involves? How hard is it to get into? Does it look poorly if you apply for both? How long does the PI last for? I would be interested in this in for January 2012.

It's not a problem. I applied for Fall 2010 CP and got my acceptance, and in the mean time I applied for the PI/MIs I was interested in. I recently got an acceptance to the PI and declined my offer with the CP, and transferred the money over for housing.

PI pay is all going to depend on what PI you're going after. I'm not familiar with the pay ranges for all the PIs. They are pretty competitive in terms of applying. I don't think it looks poorly if you apply to both, I think it shows that you're determined to be apart of Disney personally. I think most PIs last about 6 months.

Ok thanks for all the information! Does anyone know anything about the Education PIs? Do PIs have the same benefits as CPs (meaning a few free tickets, the grocery giveaway thing etc)?

You're welcome. I'm going to be doing a PI with Animal Programs, it's the Conservation Education Presenter position in DAK. There's also a similar position in the Living Seas. Then there are a few other conservation education options. You can see them on the internship website. So that's a few of the education options. I know there is also the Y.E.S. program educator (someone correct me if I'm wrong but I heard this one is open to alumni of the college program). http://disneyyouthgroups.disney.go.com/wdyp/programs/programOverview?page=YESProgramOverviewPage

I know they get the same basic benefits like theme park admission... I'm not so sure about the grocery giveaway. I know there are housing events available to interns that live at the Disney apartments.

It looks the opposite. I was told by Casting that it looks like you are determine and you want to work for Disney no matter what. It goes in your favor if they notice you have applied for both.

Certain roles pay around $10/hour.

Thank you all so much for all of the information!!! You made this so much easier!!!

Ariel864, thank you for the info! The YES program was EXACTLY what I am looking into! I know there are 2 options available for non-CPs - Disney Institute Facilitation Assistant and Disney Institute Program Assistant. Do you know anything about either of those? Good Luck on your PI and please keep me posted on how it is! I am really interested in it.

Kmg168, thanks for telling me all that information.

No problem. Thank you! I do not know anything about either of those internships sorry. I'm sure you could find something about them on the Disney Professional Internship website though.

I've been reading that PIs don't get placed in the same complexes that PIs get- is this true?

If I apply and get in, I was hoping on living in the CP housing because of the transportation...(I don't have a car)

I'm pretty sure one of the screening questions they asked was about having reliable transportation. Management interns, by nature, are NOT permitted to live in onsite housing and, from what I understand, non-management PIs being placed in Patterson is on a lottery system, so you are not guaranteed housing. I don't know if that has changed in the last year, though, so maybe someone else can answer for certain.

I asked this question to a casting person. :)

She said that once you pay the fee (after being offered a PI), you are guaranteed housing. It is first come, first serve.

OK thank you all!!! I am interested in the education/animal kingdom PIs. I'm glad to hear that housing is guaranteed housing!

Having your own transportation is also required of Professional Interns. They say that the buses do not travel to all work locations for PIs, and so you must have your own car to bring with you. They ask this during your interview, and then when they offered the position to me they confirmed this with me again.

Is it possible to do a PI directly after your CP if you have not graduated from college yet?

I'm doing the CP this fall, and plan on applying for PI's after it ends. I know that the basic rule is you can only spend a year working in student programs at Disney, but I was thrown off when I spotted this information on the Disney Professional Internships website under General Requirements:

Students interested in a Disney Professional Internship with Disney's Animal Programs must:
  • Be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a university within the United States or U.S. territories
  • Be able to complete the internship within 12 months of their graduation date
  • Be fully available for the entire term of the internship, which could include working early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Be able to provide their own reliable transportation for the duration of the internship

I'm currently enrolled in college, but will not be enrolled in the fall because my college does not accept credit for the CP or any of Disney's classes (though I still plan on taking a class while I'm down there). I also won't be graduated from college either. Does this not meet the requirements for the PI then?

I think you can go right into the internship. I'm not 100 percent about this. However, I am graduating from college and applied for the CP and PI. They said that if I didn't get a PI, I could try to do the CP and then follow with a PI after. At the end of the CP I obviously wouldn't be enrolled in college anymore, so it seems like its something that you could do. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Or you can always call up the college program recruiting and ask them! :)
