WCC antics?

On our upcoming trip we are staying at WL, so I made an ADR for WCC on our first night there. My DH & I like BBQ and I think my DS (3) will like it, from what I've read. I understand it is loud & fun. But, I keep reading about all the "antics" that go on there. Can anyone explain to me what all they do? Is it just fun(ny) stuff or is more on the embarrassing side? Is it just at your table or on a larger scale? Also, what is the deal with asking for ketchup? Just one more question....how is the seating? Do you sit with just your party or is it large tables that they put everyone together at? TIA!!!:yay:

It's all good-natured fun. Some of it is at the table, but for the most part, it's yelled for all to hear.

Be sure to pay attention to the color of the soap in the restroom when you wash your hands. My server yelled across the room to me as I was returning from the restroom, "Did you wash your hands?" I replied that I had, and he yelled back, "What color was the soap?"

If you ask for ketchup, you'll get more of it than you expect. Our server brought a single bottle at first, then every server in the dining room started bringing bottles over to our table. By the end of the meal, our server had also put an unopened cardboard box containing a dozen bottles of ketchup on one of the spare chairs at our table.

I must have asked to have my iced tea refilled one time too many, and was brought a gallon bucket of tea with a straw in it.

You'll sit at a table with just your group.

Thank you for the reply. That definitely gives me a better idea of what goes on!

And not all waitstaff participate in the antics...therefore, not all tables participate. We had an older woman waiting on us...and when we asked for ketchup...we got one bottle. She did not yell out that our table needed ketchup.

The night we were there, there were a few waiters who were going all out. But we were not luck enough to sit with one of those waiters.

I've noticed the same thing at 50's Prime Time Cafe, too. I always make it a point now to say something when we check in at the podium. I tell them we prefer a server who is really going to ham it up with us.

Some of the antics.....

Wear a Hat or T-Shirt from Universal or Sea World
Tell your server you spent the day at an attraction outside of WDW
Tell the server whose birthday or anniversary it is
Have your kids "egg him/her on"
Have one of the males in the group ask where the restrooms are
Claim your straw is not long enough
Chew gum
Ask the server where you can buy some chewing gum in WDW
Ask for ketchup -- but be ready for a little exercise and team building!
Order a soda for breakfast.

We had a BLAST There ... albeit... we really had to "probe" for antics... but I suppose a Mom with an 18 yr old boy they may have thought would not want them...

But Good food...and Good Fun !

If you search Whispering Canyon on Youtube you can watch some of the videos people have posted there to give you an idea. I used these to try determine if my daughter would enjoy it.

Thank you all for the replies and advice. It has really helped since I just wasn't sure what the place was really all about!:

As a previous poster said, it all depends on your server. We've gone 3 times and had different experiences each time. It is all in good fun though. I think our kids were really disappointed the year we got the quiet, reserved server.

WCC is a lot of fun. We've had both extremes of servers. Don't worry which one you get. Let it be a surprise!!! Have fun with it. You have to get the Canyon Skillet. It will not disappoint! :woohoo:.

We've eaten there twice with DD aged 3 and 4.

As well as the things mentioned above they also do a pony race - all the kids can go up and get a wooden horse and do a lap of the restaurant. Think they did it once each time we were there - so maybe every hour. First time DD also did the hokey pokey.

My DD enjoyed it - they don't tease the little kids just do funny things like throwing the straws at you.

We just returned home today *sigh*! We had dinner at WCC this past week and had the usual antics....large coke, ketchup, bathroom etc. Our server "Humble Ally" was awesome!!!

As we were finishing dessert a new table of 50ish year olds came in and sat at the table next to us. The waitress went to the table and threw about 20 napkins on the table one by one. This man, gave the waitress the worst look EVER! He had no clue what was going on. Apparently he didn't know about the antics. Then the waitress came back with their drinks and threw about 20 straws on the table. I really thought the man was going to get up and leave, he just kept glaring and then would turn and look at his wife. His wife was just as bewildered. I mentioned their "lack of enthusiasm" to our waitress and she basically said in a nutshell "We are loud, you can hear us when you walk in the front door. Our fun and antics warning is posted all over the place. He will figure it out". This left my family in stitches for some reason. I really want to stay just to watch his reaction.

So just a warning, be prepared for LOUD, SILLY and just plain good-natured fun. It's a great place....and the food is not so shabby either!!!

we were there last month and saw 2 different servers interact with cells.....one took the cell and carried on an entire conversation with whomever was on the other end and held it high and asked us all to say hi to jill. on the way out the door my hubby totally busted the kid beside us with his huge(read dugger like) family. he was on it or texting and our server bree started creating a rucus as we left....i was sorry to go! lol dd loves the pony race around too, except her fall that came along with it this time.

really depends on the server you get, bree was awesome, last years server wasn't that into her role, altho i did see her and another waitress eat the bday girls cupcake at the table next to us, the 9yr olds expression was priceless.

Oh - and the seating is regular restaurant seating... You are seated with your party...

Trying to upload a photo...

DS18 asked for a Coke with his Breakfast...

I kept wanting to go there, but I never made actual plans. Now it seems that the Backstage Magic tour (which we're booked on) currently has lunch as WCC.

  1. Do the "antics" occur at lunch?
  2. Any idea if the tour gets the full treatment or if it's a more basic "meal?"

I think it's luck of the draw, just like any meal there. But when we were on the tour, our server did get into it. I think that was actually the visit when I got the big gallon jar full of iced tea.
