Deb,

Every year I research Med D for my mom. It's pretty easy.

We have changed plans almost every year as drugs go generic and costs change.

Just go to this site and follow the steps. :thumbsup2

Regarding the VA for John. My dad uses the VA. It was great until he started needing specialized treatment. Then it wasn't so great. I would recommend John get the Med Part D as well, if he has any special meds. Dad had a medication the VA couldn't get. It cost dad $1000 out of pocket. So now he has a Med D plan as well.

Thanks Cork. I've been to that site and filled in all my meds then got lost trying to decipher all the choices it came up with. I'm new at all this so I would prefer to get it right and let them help me. They also told me that I'm going to need a letter from John's ex-employer to the new drug insurance company. I'm not sure what else they may need from me, so I'll let them tell me.

It makes good sense to use that site to renew every year since meds change. By then I will be a pro at this and will be able to navigate the info on the site. Thanks for posting it.

As far as John's meds go, he doesn't use as many as me. My uncle Teddy uses the VA for all his medical coverage and he told John that if you're a combat Vet, there is nothing they won't do for you. John is a Vietnam Vet and he was in the combat zone. Hopefully they can accommodate all of his medical needs and meds too. We'll give them a chance. If John needs the supplemental medications then we'll go for Part D for him too.

Thanks for the heads up. We'll be checking it out now that we're aware.

You should have seen the site the first year they had it. :scared1: Thank goodness I have a medical background, just deciphering it took almost the entire day.

It has gotten better.

Dad was in Korea. He still gets great care as long as it's just routine issues. He had to see a civilian Derm. She prescribed a med that the VA didn't have. She tried working with them, but they weren't very cooperative. It might be the VA clinic he goes to and others may be more inclined to work with the civilian docs.

Is there a VA facility near by in FL?

I can't even imagine that site before they revamped it. It's good that you have a medical background. It helps. I will get them to help me initially. Then maybe I can use the site for updates.

My Uncle Teddy was in Korea too. He said they don't consider him combat because Korea was a conflict and never declared a war. He said that John will get combat treatment. I'm sure it depends on the facility as well.

There are many VAs in and near Orlando. There is a huge new facility in Tampa, but there are others closer. John will have his choice of where he wants to go.

Bear in mind that where you'll be living, you will be just a smidge closer to Tampa than Orlando.

For the peeps that responded to this poll....
Woody, Krisann, Kathe, Ginamarie, Deborah, Karen, Noel & Mandy booked the WBTA 9/6/14
V & Bubba, Ann & Albert booked the 9 day AK 5/24/14
V & Bubba, Ann & Albert booked San Diego to Vancouver 5/15/14
Lisa & Darrell, Angie & Dennis, PJ & Mom SC 10/4/14
Robin & Karl Barcelona to Venice 7/14/14

Not sure about anyone else.

At this point, I can't book anything myself - not if I'm going down to Argentina in 2014.

Not sure if those who booked already would do another cruise or not. Is a reunion cruise a pipe dream??

Robin & Karl booked the med for july 14 12 night. venice to BCN.
but we would change or book for the THIEVES..

I think we should do a poll and see where the majority wants to go.

a) May Alaska
b) May WBTA
c) Sept Southern
d) July East Carribbean
e) July West Carribbean

I think WHEN we book will be as important as WHERE we go.

Even if people have other cruises booked, we should give them a chance to participate. Maybe they will do more than one cruise. I think that even though we only have 24 people who participated in the poll....I think people still want to do a reunion cruise.

Is it possible to do a different poll Monica?

I can't figure out a way to take down this poll to put another one up.

This is a perfect cruise and I would love to do it. But I looked it up and to do a verandah room costs $10k, plus you have airfare there and back. Even if I could convince John to do the plane ride, I could never afford the trip. That's just way out of my budget.
