The electrician has come and gone.

The short was due to water collecting in the canopy for the track light. The fuse did not blow because the wall dimmer blew instead.

Now the interesting thing is our apartment is on the first floor, and there is no obvious water overhead. I noticed that there is water damage to the dining room ceiling as well which is next to the kitchen.

The question is, where did the water come from? The pipes don't need to be directly overhead. There can be a leak and the water flows over the ceiling.

I spoke to the upstairs tenant but they said nothing happened.

We had some wall board replaced in our bathroom last year due to water damage and at the time, the was no apparent leaks to the pipes upstairs.

The opinion of my contractor with the wall damage was that they had some kind of water spillage upstairs or let something overflow.

Since it was repaired, the wall has been fine. This would confirm the opinion of the contractor. If a pipe was leaking, and had not been fixed, it would continue to be leaking and we'd have water damage on that wall again.

I really don't know what to do. I have my heating guy coming today, to do maintenance to get ready for the winter and to check out the heating pipes. The closest water upstairs to the light that shorted is a radiator, and I have hot water heat. Perhaps there's a leak from the heating.

Sukie thinks that they had a spill upstairs and are embarrassed to tell us. Either that or they keep their dogs penned up in that space with 2 gates. The floors are wood, so if the dogs go upstairs, his theory is it came down.

Still, there is no proof and it is still a mystery.

The only thing I know is that leaks, once they start, continue until they're fixed. They don't mysteriously start and stop like they do here.

Interesting theory about the dogs....hmmmmmm

I'm not too sure. The dogs are Westies, so they aren't that big. I find that a little difficult to believe. A Westie can't go THAT much, at least, I don't think so.

Venetia won tickets on the radio for Harvest Festival featuring Octoberfest. This included lunch vouchers as well! Kinda small festival but we had a good time. tickets also included a tractor ride around the farm where the event was held.Perfect weather....80 with a cool breeze. Here is the smugmug link with pictures of today:3dglasses

COOL pictures! I love going places like that! :) What's up with that goat way high up in the air?! I love the picture of the ostrich face close up. I'd NOT like to go in that bee barn, even though they're enclosed. Gives me the shivers thinking about all those bees. I've never see white pumpkins, very cool!

Can you get those plug in things that emit a high pitched noise(that we can't hear) that scares the mice away(to next door!!!:rolleyes1 )
Oh, I have those things! Must be why I haven't seen any pests the whole time we've been in the house. I forgot I have those. I do believe you have to move them occasionally though, so I might do that.

This evening starts Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

I just want to take this opportunity to wish all of our friends here a very happy, and healthy 5769!

Something disturbing. When we were going to houses on the street behind ours to sell popcorn today, THREE houses we went to had a dead mouse on the front porch, and 2 of those houses had a baited mousetrap also sitting on their front porch. Um....that scares me because all those mice have to do is run through the backyards to MY HOUSE! :scared1: :scared: I have a HUGE phobia of those nasty critters getting into my house. I've never heard of people putting mousetraps outside their house. Does that keep them from ever getting inside? Or maybe they already have them inside and used poison and those are the mice that went outside to die? What the heck? Should I be doing something too? I'm freaked out now!

Yeah, I saw someone else suggest them, but definitely use those plug in things! We have a lot of field mice around here, and the plug ins were the only humane way to keep them out of the house. I never wanted to KILL the little guys, just to keep them outside!

Just noticed that my last post was 4001 :surfweb: spending lots of time :surfweb: :lmao:

Did anyone watch the shows last night??

Watched the 1st 1 1/2 hrs of Extreme Makeover:Home Edition (I used to live in Montgomery County, MD where this was done). Then The Amazing Race; Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters. Too much :happytv: for 1 night, but I enjoyed every moment.

I was so exhausted, we set the DVR machine and went to bed. Maybe I'll watch some TV tonight.

I am working from home today.

I planned to go to work today, but when Sukie switched on the kitchen light, he heard a very loud hissing (he described it like a cat being attacked).

There was HUGE black mark radiating out of the canopy's of one of the track lights and the smell of ozone (electrical smell).

What is disturbing is that our circuit breakers did not blow.

Sukie has a doctor's appointment this morning, so I am pretty nervous about leaving the dogs and the house alone.

I've called an electrician and am waiting for a call back.

Scary! Glad they were able to fix everything though.

I'm working a miserable week, and can't wait for Friday already. Is it bad that I'm already wishing for Friday afternoon on Monday?

DH and I visited with our new nephew this weekend. He's SO sweet. There's nothing better than holding a newborn :) I can't wait to be holding my own little guy. Speaking of which, I think I've graduated into the LARGE phase of the pregnancy!

Ohhhhhhh... Ghost pumpkins!!!!

Next year you have to come east where you get to see pumpkins... pick apples and watch the leaves die... pretty colors...

okay let's put our heads together and make a date ::yes:: I know you will walk my dog, but will you feed the rabbit and turtle too??? What are our house duties???

:sad1: my Paul just told me, so sad. He will be missed.

The heat was awesome. Wilson and the other leader jockied back and forth for the lead trading 1st place 5 times, with Wilson ending up 2nd in the heat. It was a great race to watch.

Wil dropped back to 4th at the start but after the 1st corner, he grabbed back a spot, then next corner took 2nd, up the hill and took the leader on the inside upexpectedly which cause him (the other guy) to bump Wil who dash ahead and hit hard the 3rd place car, which went up on end on 2 wheels (almost flipped). Over the next 9 laps Wil lost the lead a couple of times, but then took it back just as quickly. At the white flag the leader of the series pushed him over the start/finish, followed him around the whole track and did the same thing at the checkered flag. She easily could have gone left or right and passed him, she has a smoken engine, but she didn't, she can't drive when it counts! Wilson kicked butt. The track was very technical and he just dominated the whole race. We are hoping for a tape to come to us in the next few weeks, I'll post to youtube as it comes.

Now the bad news....Wilson was disqualified based on a build up of carbon (not carborator..Michelle not the same thing ;) He was just one thread over, an extremely small amount which would not have helped his engine, which sucks compared to all the leaders, that can routinuely pass him on the straights, as they have all season long. He couldn't even keep the one lead he had (at one time about 8-10 car lenghts) because others have better gear (which means more money, sadly :sad2: , or cheating madly  ) Paul should have cleaned the carbon after Wilson's last race, but he passed the tech last time and so he just thought it was okay to let it slide. It wasn't :sad2: :sad1: Hard lesson learned. Your pit crew can never win a race, but they can lose it for you.

This was the 1st time Wilson had won an IKF race. These are the races that we travel around CA/OR for. The kids are the best of their clubs and have gone on to this level. Most of the time Wilson has placed 4th or 5th with this group of racers, but this time he was great. It was all track, lots of corners and elevation changes and Wilson can drive very well, but his engine isn't the best so most times the faster engines just dust him.

Anyways, it was a wonderful win. My sister and son were there to celebrate the victory. I was and am so proud for my son. I'm almost over being mad at Paul for his mistake.

Thanks guys. I was so excited when he won, I texted Michelle to share it with my family :grouphug:

hi :flower3: we're home, long day today, stopped at a lavender farm and a pumpkin patch, and then Sonic for dinner. Ok, not loving the Sonic, but glad we crossed that off our (bucket) list.

nite nite, can't wait to feel my own bed tonight :cloud9:

Nan... I'm lucky I know where the keys to my car are!!!

Just popping in to say hi! Its been real busy around here. I go to my moms almost everyday to scrap and help out. We are really looking foward to the cruise soon too! Work has not been so great, my manager is mad at me for some reason and took me off the schedule for the past 2 weeks. I go to work when my schedule says and she has taken me off and out of the computer. So for the past 2 weeks I have had 0 hrs. But next week I am training in the Photo Lab. I have talked to HR but need to go talk to her again since I was supposed to work this past weekend but she took me off again. Its ok though as I had 3 test last week so I had plenty of time to study. Plus my mom has been paying me to watch my sister and take her to school. pick her up, and take her to her activities.

I hope everyone is doing well,
Ian- hope everything turns out ok with the electrical
Deb-I hope you are having a Magical time at WDW

I haven't slept in 3 nights (Matts on call and doesn't hear his phone go off but I do) so I am going to go nap and then pick up Karli at school. TTFN

Hi Jill!!!

Packed yet???

I'm way behind. Life has been crazy busy, and things won't slow down until after our federal election in 15days. I'm way back on page 30, but between tonight and tomorrow I will get caught up.

Poor Ken had teeth pulled last Monday and is still sore and slightly swollen. His mom was just up for a short visit all the way from Kansas City. So of course, I spent some time last week, making the house look at least semi-presentable. She just redid her kitchen a few months ago, so she understands that chaos we're in.

I'm ging to try posting a couple of pictures, hopefully it works :goodvibes

Here's a picture of Shaelyn in her Brownie uniform. I think the little brown dresses from back in my day were more official looking, but the T-shirt and pants are way more practical.

193444.jpg

And here's one of a very proud Shaelyn with her "student of the month" award. Her school has a theme every month and each teacher gets to pick a few students to get the award, which is handed out at the month end assembly. So she's one of many to get it, but she was thrilled. The theme was playing by the rules.

I miss my sanity breaks (and laughs) from reading the posts here, so will be getting caught up this week. No matter how busy, I'm realizing I need to make room for some relaxing or I go nuts (or more nuts than I already am :lmao: )

Yes Shannon..you need to come back... we miss you!!! & we've been trying to keep Gaylean under control at night... :rolleyes1

I'm not too sure. The dogs are Westies, so they aren't that big. I find that a little difficult to believe. A Westie can't go THAT much, at least, I don't think so.

Westies with a big water bottle?

This evening starts Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

I just want to take this opportunity to wish all of our friends here a very happy, and healthy 5769!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JOHN AND DEB!!!!!

Did you save some bubbly for us??? :rotfl:

Hi Monica!!!!

It's cold up here.. how's Florida????:)

Are you bundled up???

It's actually cold (for me) in the office today (usually I'm comfy). Went outside at lunch and it was ok--too long would have been too much (I get overheated pretty easily). Right now local station says it's 82.

How was your weekend?

How was your weekend?

I'm in shorts believe it or not... but I have my sweatshirt and my magic pink slippers on... I'm still cold!!!

Weekend was quiet...

Mom is glad to be home.

She's taking her meds for her ears so we'll see what happens...

I'm trying to get myself to pack away some of the clothes for warm weather... I hate doing that...

Monica... is your nose still rosey? :goodvibes

We're Back......we had a great time. We got back to the hotel before the heavens open up and the rain starts pouring down. We got TWO special buttons each: one is Happy Anniversary and the other is Honorary Citizen of Walt Disney World. Pretty cool huh!

Nan

It had been happened as don't blame Paul, always something happen.

I am sure Wilson will won in future.:thumbsup2

Ian was great with go karting until his engine broke down as he should have won. But at night time they picked him for best driver and he got a beautiful cup.

But he quit now because too expensive.

Scottishwee35

::yes:: I'm almost done with Paul, ok I'm done but I reserve the right to pull it out again if needed

We are also getting hit with the cost of this sport. Wil needs a new kart for next year, but we haven't been able to get it yet, too much $$$$ Hoping something will break way and make it happen fingers crossed.

Nan, well done to Wilson and a slap for Paul! I guess he will be feeling bad enough as it is though.

It's Monday, no slapping darn it! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

PS Nan, tell Speed......Good Job and we're proud of him too!

Thanks Deb :thumbsup2

We did more in the park but we stopped taking pictures until lunch. We had lunch at the Crystal Palace. Eeoyre is very afraid of me. John said Eeyore is coming by our table next. I thought he was down a few tables and I turned around to look when WHAM he was standing right over my shoulder, right in my personal space and I did not expect that so I screamed very loudly in surprise and poor Eeyore jumped back and ran off to a hostess and hid his head in fear. We didn't get that on film. Eventually he came back over to us, but it was hysterically funny to John and to a few others around our table, but not to me and Eeyore! Here's some pictures:

When we got to our table there was a heart waiting for us for our anniversary:

It was a happy and fun day. Now where is that champagne. It's time to pop the cork. Cheers!

I think Deb and John are two great people and I hope they enjoy their anniversary at the happiest place on earth.

Happy New Year to all of our friends celebrating today! May it be a healthy and prosperous one for you. Is it considered good luck that my anniversary is today? I sure hope so. I could use it.

Hi Monica, Hi Michelle, Hi Nan, Hi Ian, Hi Ginamarie, Hi Shannon.

Ginamarie, you look adorable with your belly starting to pop.

Michelle, I'll be happy to get you a glass of bubbly, enjoy! Glad you're home and glad that mom is on meds for her ears. So happy that's all it was and I hope it goes away soon.

Nan, you can have rum instead of champagne. Cheers!

Monica, how's the work day going? We'll see you at 7pm at Mimi's on Wednesday for dinner. It sounds great.

Ian, Happy New Year! Glad the electrician was able to get there quickly. Since John is an electrician, I'll ask him what he thinks about your "leak".

Shannon, great pictures of the girls. They're really growing up fast. Cannot wait for the election to be over so you can join in with us here more often. We miss you!

Everyone else, hello to you too and hope your day is going well.
