If you haven't seen Wicked, go see it. It is the best show I've ever seen. I'm hoping we get Mary Poppins in the next 5 years
I saw Wicked last Oct in LA and loved it! My sis hasn't seen it & wants to, but we've talked about another sisters trip to LA in Nov. to celebrate her 50th and see the play.

I'd really like to see Mama Mia, since I loved the movie (funny to me because I wasn't a real Abba fan back in the day). I'd also love to see Little Mermaid or Mary Poppins but sis isn't nearly the Disney fan that I am!

But like I said, just getting to go to ANY play on Broadway will be a treat to me!
CONGRATULATIONS! What a great prize!!!
Thanks for the ticket links, too, Monica!
Fresh and Easy ROCKS! I live in between two of them. On the day things expire they make them half off so I get a lot of meat that way and either eat it that day or freeze it. They also have things like cheese and baked goods and fruit and veggies half price too. It use to be easier to get it because no one new about it but now you have to go in the morning. Plus for every 20.00 you spend you get 5.00 off. Plus it is closer to me than a convenience store! OK enough of the advertisement
I didn't know about the half price thing! I wish we could have one up here but it probably won't happen. I was told by a store manager that stores have to be within a certain distance of the main warehouse in order to get the fresh stuff every day.
I'm doing the noon aide at my job and I do other things for the office and teachers. I'm also a sub for the secretary and nurse. I need to take the "No child left behind" class so I can do other jobs. It is only a three day class that they offer at the adult school. My job is only 2 hours a day or so right now but it will lead to a better job.....I think
When are you going to take the class? I have to take a class in "Sheltered English Immersion"/SEI before next May so I can renew my teaching certificate (an AZ requirement). I found out today that it's available at the local Jr college or even online! I'm going to check into the online option.
Thanks Monica, I've actually done that. He hears everybody telling him that on a regular basis but I don't think he'll believe it until things start getting better for him.
Holly, this is SO TRUE! We can give kids verbal affirmations until we're blue in the face, but what really is meaningful is when they
experience themselves doing things differently. I learned that if I could mirror back to kids immediately what I saw them doing correctly, it was a really powerful motivator. In my case (as a reading teacher), I could say something like, "I see you blended the sounds in that word just like we've been practicing" or "I can hear you dropping your voice when you get to a period, like we talked about". Their faces would just light up!
I had that very experience once when I was attending a conference! I went to a session that I thought would be about something I was very interested in and it turned out to be something else; rather than about hands-on methods of teaching it was about research and statistics!

I realized that I was exhibiting all the same behaviors that I saw from kids when they were forced to participate in something they weren't properly prepared for. In my case, I was *trying* to keep up and understand, but it was beyond my level of understanding so after awhile I found myself fidgiting, unable to take notes, etc. It was another very profound "Aha" moment!
