Assisted living facilities.

GOOGLE it now, make some calls and some visits and be prepared.

One of my friends and her husband sold their home when he retired at about 68 years of age--not all that old when you are 59 like me.

The moved to Westminster Village North. It is in the company called Presbyterian Homes. They have an apartment now. They have their own car, cook their own meals, come and go as they choose. They could have had a cottage like another friend of ours, but preferred the apartment.

As they need more and more care, they will move to different parts of the campus but the deal is set and they chose the place THEMSELVES. Their kids did not have to PUT them in a home.

As a CONTROL FREAK OF THE FIRST ORDER, I really like this. They made their own arrangements! :thumbsup2

Jan :earsgirl:

Thanks for the idea. We already tried to get them to do that but because they are talking care of his brother and his family and there is no one in their right mind that would buy their house, they are stuck for now.

I hope this is the right combination. Why would she come? It sounds to me like she is the one that doesn't believe in the meds.
Because she used to come to every single appointment until recently, about the same time she stopped speaking to me. ;) She wanted to be at these appointments to ask questions and give her input to the doctors.

Forgot to comment about the health care card thing...

It's a Flexible Spending Account FSA - I have it this year....I alloted a specific amount of $ to be taken out of my paycheck (pre tax) and put into this account. I chose $500.00. I was sent a debit card w/ the entire $500 on it, and then when it's done, it's done (finished it back in July I believe). Works towards Rx, dr copays, and some other health stuff (like cold medicine). I think it's a good idea - I don't notice the $ from my paycheck.

Cheri - HI!

We are fine.

The only thing I have done is little by little I plan my trips more as the gas price goes up. Then when it comes down again, I maintain that economy.

I have heard some people complain that they did not get a raise this year. I have never gotten a raise and have had three pay cuts in 14 years.

Seems like our media is making a bigger deal of this than it should be. We had to take a real hit on the selling price of our RV but finally got a buyer. A friend lost his job at an RV dealer because they were not selling enough RVs to justify so many salesmen and he was the last hired. But the gasoline came back down and they did not rehire him. He thinks it is because the TV is not helping people realize that it came down, they keep implying it will go back up again and soon.

He is so tired of stories of doom and gloom. They aren't happy unless we are miserable. The only news they want to print is bad stuff according to him.

Jan :confused3

I guess that may be true for some but I know a lot of people that are struggling for one reason or another. The kid's have fundraisers and I feel too bad to ask anyone if they want to buy anything.

It takes so long to find the right meds. I hope his dad doesn't give up hope. I'm not sure what he thinks the alternative is. Does he think there is something else you guys can do that you already haven't tried?
Not anymore. He used to say, "Tyler just has to learn to behave" or that he'll outgrow these things. But today he finally admitted that we've been trying behavioral methods for 3 years with no success and that it's time to try whatever we can. I almost fainted. ;)

Hi All.....just checking in.....I'm still reading from page 29.......I'll catch up soon......just wanted to say hi!

Me and John are in Santee, South Carolina. John slept until 12:30am last night and then we left at 1am. We drove until noon today and took a hotel room. We just had breakfast and now we're going to sleep for a while. I'm elevating my legs!!!! Then a shower and shave and we'll hit the road again.

John got a $250 speeding ticket for going 15 mph over the limit. Wow......they don't mess around in South Carolina. He's going to set the cruise control when we start up again to keep him honest.

The weather is not nice enough to put the roof down on the car. There's a coastal storm hitting the Carolinas and Virginia Beach. Tomorrow will be nicer I hope.

:yay::banana: :cool1: :yay:

Great thought, but I need a 1 story house - after 2 knee surgeries (and facing #3) I try not to do steps

So much for that idea! Guess you might have to do an add on to the current floor......if you have enough property, you could add on a separate small apartment with it's own entrance for them. OR have them buy the house next door and put a walkway between the properties. That might be your best bet.

I have no idea. A coworker at lunch today told me I'm supposed to have some sort of ATM card that the firm puts money into for something related to medical. I have NO idea what she's talking about. Again, our wonderful manager showing her wonderful communcation skills. :sad2: I'll find out later, if I end up staying.

Good thing to find out about !!

Oooh! If that's indeed what we have, I'll be very happy. :goodvibes

That's scary, isn't it? We have a casino here (Indian res.) I wonder if their business has picked up, too? Probably...:sad2:

Uh....hopefully *nobody* got that post, 'cause I didn't post it!

Totally sad about the casino thing but we are happy because the alternative is worse for us.

I guess she was thinking if the dog sitting :lmao:

Unfortunately that is what they were taught back when he was a young man. No one understood about biochemical imbalances, and, even if they did, they had no idea how to fix them. There were some attempts but usually the drugs had side-effects that were worse than the disease.

But, we have more information so we know it is not something you can SNAP out of. So perhaps that is part of it.

I am sure he loves you as best he can. And he wants nothing but the best for you. Unfortunately Dad's of that generation are not real good at saying so.

We love you too and are glad to hear you are making some progress!! :yay:

How is today going?

Jan :)

Jan - you're too sweet :cutie:

I know my father has grown leaps & bounds w/ his knowledge of depression, suicidal tendencies & eating disorders since I "enlightened" both my parents after college (they had NO clue what had been happening w/ me). He's not so bad now even though every once in a while he lets a stupid comment out (but don't we all at times :lmao: ). I know how he was brought up, and how society thought about mental illness back then.

I'm stressing about my parents and have a headache today, but am thankful that I'm doing better---it's amazing how depression really affects every aspect of one's life. Glad tomorrow is Friday & I get to see some good friends this weekend.

How are YOU doing?

Good thing to find out about !!
I'm sure they'll tell me all about it when they sign me up for the insurance (if I end up staying), and of course I'll be asking about it.

I always love everybody's input, so you could have told me this before. Definitely. It's honestly how I feel, I was just trying to make more money. But that's the wrong way. It would be better to get a night job instead.

If you are going to do that, check Starbucks. I have a friend who got medical coverage for her family while her husband was out of work by working at Starbucks. She got a free pound of coffee each week and used it for Christmas gifts for everyone and a hostess gift for us when they came to visit. You could work there the nights Tyler is at his Dad's. It would cut into DISing time, but we would understand :grouphug:

I'll check into it. Not sure I'd be able to learn how to make all those drinks that I don't even know what they're called or what's in them, but I could try. I don't drink coffee and can't even stand the smell of it.

Thank God!

Sorry about the ticket. I hope you have fun and get some rest.

Yea, bummer! I don't have to pay it right now so I'll deal with it when I get back.....just add it to the budget for next month.....it's not due until December.

Yes, we're resting now but we're storing up the energy to go play and have fun after we get there tomorrow.

Yea, for Brooke winning an award. That's such a nice thing for the school to do for the kids. I hope Ethan's not jealous.

Don't lie you guys just self medicated :lmao: :lmao:

So here's what the doctor said. We are to keep the current med, but reduce back to the original dose. And we are to add Adderall or Concerta, which is usually for ADHD kids, but for Tyler it will supposedly increase his impulse control and when that's under control, the other med will be able to help reduce the aggression and anxiety.

So wish Tyler luck please. The Dr. said that like the current med, if the added one works, we'll know right away, probably in a few days, but if it doesn't work, we'll know IMMEDIATELY because when it doesn't work it causes EXTREME irritability. So that's why he gave us both kinds. We are to try one first and if it works, stick with it and if it doesn't work, switch to the other. And if neither work, he'll give us another option at our 10/23 appointment.

By the way, Ice Queen didn't come to the appointment. I suspected she wouldn't. ;)

I am so glad there is a Plan-A  that has a built-in Alternate-Plan-B :thumbsup2

Is there a Disney Store near by??? A Walmart/Target or grocery store would be good too - you would probably get a discount.
