I'd love to stay and chat and lurk, but I'm too crabby and Molly is trying to work on her new computer toy, a dictation software.

nite all.

OK, now that I'm finally caught up, I can share our adventures from today. Nowhere near as good as Ian's, but still need to share.

Church was fine, we stopped at the grocery store, Tyler scanned everything through the self-checkout, it was time to pay. I forgot to get cash recently, and was using my debit card this week. WELL, I knew I didn't have cash in my purse, but didn't remember until time to pay that I'd left my debit card in my desk drawer AT WORK! So we apoligized and put everything back. How embarrassing! Tyler was worried, so I assured him we do have tons of food at home, these were just extras we thought we wanted.

So we went home to have lunch and then headed out to Jumping Jax, the place with the big inflatibles to jump on and climb over and slide down, etc. On the way, I had to stop at the drive-up drop box for the library to return some books. I tried to put the books in, but the box was so full, the door wouldn't close. So I wasn't about to leave my books there when somebody could easily reach in and pull them out, then I'd be charged. As it was, I already could reach in and grab stuff.

So despite our efforts to avoid the pouring rain we've had for 3 days (which we severely needed, so I'm really grateful), I still had to find a parking spot and we took our umbrella and walked the block to return the books inside the library. Well, I forgot that they don't open until 1pm on Sundays and this was about 12:35. Didn't want to stand in the rain for 25 minutes, and didn't want to walk back to the car in the rain and walk back to the library again in 25 minutes. So we decided the books will just have to get returned another time.

Next stop, Jumping Jax! Tyler was worried about not being able to go since I now knew I didn't have my debit card on me. So I made a deal with him that if he uses the $10 in his wallet (it costs $8 for him to get in, no charge for parents), I'd give it back to him tomorrow when I can get to the bank or get my debit card from my desk at work. He agrees and off we went.

Now, keep in mind we have had a flood warning since early Saturday, but I haven't seen any standing water on roads, so I didn't think anything of it. We were jumping and climbing and playing for 3 1/2 hours. Actually, I only lasted about 1/2 hour, the rest was Tyler on his own with friends he made there. I'd get up and go a few times with him now and then when I had an energy burst. People kept leaving, but no more were coming. I thought that was strange because they were open until 9pm. We left at the same time the last group left. Still pouring rain.

As we walked out, I caught part of a conversation with a guest leaving who was asking the owner if she can get out a certain way, but I wasn't really paying attention to their conversation. I soon learned what that was about. I couldn't find the drive to get from the parking lot to the road. It had completely disappeared under water. I sat in the car, waiting for the other person to leave first, planning to follow their van, hoping she knew where she was going. When I saw how high the water was on their van, I knew we wouldn't make it. As I sat there watching, in shock, as the van did indeed make it through to the road, another car came by and tried to get through. This car was the same size as mine, and the water completely covered the HOOD of the car! It was all the way up to the bottom of the side windows! It made it through, BUT the engine stalled on the other side and she sat there. My face looked like this:  and so did Tyler's!

I drove back to the entrance of the place, rolled down my window, the owner opened the door and I yelled to her asking if there's another way out because no way would my car make it through that water. She told me she saw others make it through the grass just fine, drive over the sidewalk and onto the road. I had no choice but to try, otherwise we'd have to just be stuck there. I thought of seeing of anybody could come pick us up and we'd walk through the grass to the road, and leave my car there, but then how would I get to work in the morning, and I didn't know what other roads were flooded and didn't want anybody to get stuck trying to rescue us.

So I started off across the grass. I almost made it, and got stuck about 12 inches from the sidewalk that separated the grass from the road. 2 men stopped on the road, got out and were trying to push me out while I tried rocking back and forth. The only thing that happened was they both got covered with mud splattered from my tires and I got stuck deeper. They both apologized for not being able to get me unstuck, but I was so grateful to them for trying. The other car, the one whose engine stalled, the driver got out, we talked, she told me she'd already called a tow truck and that maybe he'd just tow me out quickly before he towed her car to her house. I explained to her my predicament about not having cash on me and the debit card left at work. I told her I'd already called friends and left messages to bring me some cash!

I couldn't reach anybody by phone and nobody had returned my message yet. We waited a 1/2 hour and the tow truck showed up. I got out of the car again and explained the problem to him. I assured him I have money, just not on me. He said, "Don't worry, we're towing people out of all kinds of places today, what's one more. Since I'm here, I'll just do it for you." I had to stop myself from hugging him!

Tyler got a kick out of being in the car and having the front get lifted up, we were out in less than 2 minutes and on our way home. Had to detour around many flooded roads, so it was a challenge to get home. I told Tyler we learned an important lesson today. When there are flood warnings, and it's still pouring buckets, just don't go anywhere!

Holly...it's the old saying... turn around don't drown...

Glad you and tyler are ok... next time bring a mickey slicker...
