How strong was that one?

When the Indiana-Illinois quake hit April 18 slept through it. We have a water bed and sleep through the movement of each other so maybe that is what it seemed like. The aftershock came when I was driving and they said it is not as noticable in a moving car unless things around you start to go.

The first quake was a 5.2 or 5.4 (depending on which source you read) but the epicenter was 165 miles southwest of us. It was felt in Chicago, middle of Michigan, Cincinnati, etc.

Jan :earsgirl:

Jan,

I didn't know you felt that quake in Indianapolis.

People I work with in the western suburbs here said that some stuff fell off the shelves in their closets.

We never knew about it at all, but without any kidding, we have the El running behind our house, so we're quite used to the house shaking periodically.

This is funny: When I picked up Tyler today, a teacher told me he fell asleep on the bus on the way back from the fair. I told them, "Please don't tell his dad that because he'll blame it on the meds since today was his first time having it in the morning". She laughed and said, "NO......not just Tyler, ALL the kids fell asleep!" :rotfl2: And then there were 2 buses of angry kids because they all had to wake up when they got back to the school! They were outside from 9-5 and it was 90 degrees most of the day, so they were all just worn out. Some even threw up from the heat and humidity. I realize that's not too hot for many of you, but it throws all of us out of whack here. ;) Lots of sunburned and tired kids today!

Kelly, that is life saving info there.

Of course we never have to prepare for earthquakes, but from what I have seen said on tv I would have gone under a table.

Ah, but you never know in the UK when there might be a freak blancmange collapse ...

OK, now that we have ascertained that everyone is OK, someone go find out if the HOJO where we're staying for our wedding is alright.

Paul and Wilson just had an interesting encounter with Buddy Lazier http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_Lazier Famous Indy car racer. His son is invovled in go-karting.

Seems that my boys will be very happy thru out this whole event. I'm glad we decided to come. Paul and I were talking about work being slow and we toyed with not coming but we decided that Wilson had been working very hard for this so we opted to cast fate to the winds and hope that we will both come home to more work.

Now, is chocolate included in the earthquake kit?

It is now!!! :goodvibes

Hello Everybody

Can you trust your niece to not dye it blue? :rotfl:

Actually Emma has been dying to get to my hair for YEARS!!! She did mention bright RED... :rotfl2:

We really didn't see the barbecue either as we had early coffee and pastries on deck, then a late breakfast in the buffet. We didn't need any barbie food.

I think I wandered past a few times, but didn't take much notice.

Hey Ian... Notice she called it BARBIE food???? Will you please tell her that Tammy doesn't cook!!!! :rotfl2:

A quick check in.

Thanks Holly for the update on Deb. I fully understand what Deb is going through right now. I'm feeling the same. Tomorrow is the day, 1 year ago that I got the most awful call of my life. I will also send her a PM full of hugs too. One can never have to may hugs.

V...

You both need hugs at this time. That is one call I am deeply fearing... :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

No posts for an hour?! What the heck is going on?! Where'd everybody go? :sad2:

I am so glad the earthquake turned out to be not so bad. I have never lived though an earthquake, so I can not imagine how scary it mus be.

I am glad this will not be the news event of 2008!!

Don and I went out on a date tonight. He did the music for a wedding this past weekend and the couple gave him a gift card to our favorite local restaurant. Then we went to see Momma Mia.....strange movie. If you go just for the pure entertainment, you will love it!

Sounds like a special night out together. :lovestruc Do you get to have date night very often?

Those pictures bring back great memories of Disney going above and beyond in Acapulco. I hated that port and it was a highlight to see those kids screaming and watching the characters. I think I even shed a tear or two.
Why did you hate Acapulco?

What was going on? What kids? What was Disney doing?

OK, Holly, it happened after the first performance by the Mariachi band and dancers in Walt Disney Theater and the second.

We were still tied up at the pier in Acapulco, children and families lined the water's edge shouting WE WANT MICKEY. Can you see them? I think you said that you and Tyler walked in that park.

see the people as they were shouting 'WE WANT MICKEY'

Scottishwee35

Every so often when there were no people in line for photos with the Characters, the Character's handlers would bring them out to wave at the children. The children continued to yell for Mickey.
Donald was out.
Then Olivia got her photo with Pluto and Minnie.

ACAPULCO

Finally Pluto came out

Gaylean and Deborah got emotional from that event and the photos I brought over from POTD2 to share here as they were taken on our cruise.

It bothered me that the kids were not happy to see any of the other characters. One of the handlers told me that in each port several of the characters go to children's hospitals and orphanages.

So, our characters were out in the community and at the shore they went out to wave to the kids but the kids only wanted Mickey who was busy taking pictures with our children.

Make more sense now?

WELL, let us say that the quake WAS FELT in Indianapolis,

but not by us. We think that since we sleep in a water bed and are used to the movement when either of us moves, we did not notice it.

The aftershocks were when I was driving so I did not feel them either. I have friends who felt all of them.

Jan

Ah, but you never know in the UK when there might be a freak blancmange collapse ...

So of course I looked this one up-- (Woody has me trained)

you are right, earthquake precautions would be appropriate....:rotfl2:

Jan

Wow - that earthquake sounds stressful! Glad to hear that everybody is okay!

Had to check in and see what all happened, now its off to bed:)

:lmao:

We do actually have earthquakes very often but don't know about them. A few mon ths ago there was a big one(for us) which woke John up and the wardrobe doors were rattling. There was a lot of minor damage and someone was trapped in their bed when a chimney stack collapsed.

Why did you hate Acapulco?

I seem to remember most of us were not keen on Acapulco.

Oh, OK. I'm surprised they could see the characters from the pier.
