I'm about to cry too. Just so you know, I called DrHug and read this to him. He is not a fan of anti-psychotics in kids generally, but he said this is one case where it sounds appropriate. We will keep little Tyler in our prayers.
 Aw, thanks Angie! I'm touched that you cared enough to call Dennis. Please tell him thank you as well. I'm hoping for the best, but only time will tell.

I thought of you the whole time

My friend that almost didn't make it on the cruise because her husband had the kidney stones called and they upgraded her to the handicap veranda. The crazy part is that she didn't even have a veranda booked :scared1: She is so excited and I am excited for her because she was worried that her husband was going to have a horrible time on the cruise and this made their trip.
Oh, wow! How great for them!

good luck angie, this inbetween time is rotten...what is your expected close date? ours is 8-8-08, that's the opening day of the olympics I think too

8/5/08 It has moved from 7/21 (wouldn't that have been nice!) to 7/23 to 8/5....maybe:headache:

Oh yes, our butcher's shops had sawdust on the floors - probably to soak up the blood.:scared:

We lived in a small town and there were 3 or 4 Grocer's shops, a similar number of greengrocer's shops, 4 butchers, at least 4 bread/cake shops. I imagine there would have been more. I remember 5 or so sweet(candy) shops, most were a part of newsagents and tobacconists. I think the first supermarket opened there some time after I left home.

My mother did a list for groceries which she dropped into the shop and then they were delivered later in the week.

When I was really young the milk was delivered and poured into your own can left outside. I think we used to have bottles delivered though I do remember our next door neighbour's can hanging outside her door.

Sorry if I am boring you all - remember I'm OLD!!!:lmao:

I for one am not bored.

I do remember candy stores, which were usually news/cigarette stores as well.

We also got milk delivered by the milkman, but it came in bottles.

My mother would make her list and then go "marketing," which mean going down to the main street that ran through the neighborhood where all of the stores were. She would drag a shopping cart behind her.

I haven't heard the word, "marketing" for grocery shopping in many years.

Was that used in the UK? Was it used anywhere else in the US, outside of NYC?

The pop man used to come round delivering pop(bottles of fizzy drinks) though we weren't allowed that very often.

We had the seltzer man, who came around with soda syphon bottles of seltzer, or "vichy vasser" as my parents called it.

The Best Years of Our Lives won the year I was born. Frederic march won Best Actor. That was 1947.

On of my favorite movies and a real classic. I also love "Since You Went Away," made a few years earlier in 1944 with Claudette Colbert. Some fantastic cinematography.

Decorated Angel wings out of wet coffee filters:

.

How did they make them? More than one filter attached somehow? Are they something that can be worn by the kids or are they wall decorations?

Well, you know... both Marily AND Ian think that they lived during the Edwardian Era... :goodvibes

Edwardian sounds pretty good to me, so long as I could have been upper or upper middle class. I at least seem to be gathering up the clothing.

Ian is right. Facebook is creepy. I just got a message from a girl about my 20-year class reunion. Haven't seen this girl since high school. She told me I haven't responded to the invitation. Gee, I'm trying to avoid it because I don't want to go. I never would have imagined they'd track me down!

At our reunions they always send out lists to those they are in touch with asking if any of us know the "lost" classmates. So I am not surprised they tracked you down, that is what they are trying to do.

If you don't want to go, just say so. Don't try to hide, just reply in the negative. They don't need an excuse either. They may want a reason, but you don't have to give one.

Are you going to delete yourself from Facebook?

Michelle,

Thought you would like to know that I caught an artical in USA Today last weekthat explained the cause of your stones is Glogal Warming.:scared1: At least that is what the story would like you to believe. It left me wondering what else they can find to blame on the so called Global Warming. Can't good old Mother Earth just have a natural warming trend, after all we are comming out of an Ice Age.

They claim that because of global warming people tend to dehydrate more which has caused a spike in the number of kidney stone cases. So Now you know, all you need to do is drink a lot:drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 to avoid future problems with stones.

I like that explanation--COMING OUT OF AN ICE AGE.

The media would have us think global warming is real because they have to have bad news to report. Goodness knows we cannot hear about the Boy Scout who saved a little old lady or an Eagle Scout's project or a Girl Scout Gold project or volunteerism in the city or anything good. If it is not bad, they are not happy.

down off the soap box now

OK...Here are the details: His official diagnoses (yes, plural) are mild ADHD - nonspecific (he said that basically means it's only a small part of things and that there are multiple other issues), ODD (oppositional defiance disorder) - moderate, learning disabled (which we already knew-for math, reading, writing), Emotional Impairment - mild, Sensory Integration Dysfunction (which we already knew and is why we go to occupational therapy), and Adjustment Disorder w/Anxiety.

He said if Tyler were an adult, he'd give him Celexa (an anti-depressant) but that there are too many studies about anti-depressants in kids and increased suicidal thoughts. Now it's recommended that drs. don't give them to kids under 18. So he gave us Risperdal. It's an anti-psychotic drug, and he said of course Tyler isn't psychotic, but that in low doses it's been found to reduce anxiety and aggression.

He said the diagnoses will likely change as Tyler grows and his brain matures, and he had to decide what were the most serious issues at this time. He said the aggression and the inability to focus were the 2 biggest issues in his opinion. He wants to only treat one area at a time to see what's left after eliminating some of the issues. It's his thought that it's possible that Tyler's inability to focus could be related to extreme anxiety and that if we eliminate that anxiety, he might be able to focus better, but there's no way of knowing until we start working on each thing. He'll re-evaluate in the fall (with many med-checks in between now and then) to see if he needs to add a med to help him focus.

I think that's about all! :) I'm giving him his first pill tonight at bedtime. YIPPEE! Oh....one more thing....he said unlike anti-depressants or other meds that can take weeks to take effect, he said with this drug, we'll see results in a few days to a week! I'm about to cry with relief. Yes, I know it might not work for him, but it's such a huge step in the right direction.

Holly, if it's any consolation, up until I was about 7 years old or so, I wrote backwards, and could not tell the difference between the letters M and N and W, the letter E and the number 3, the letter S and the number 5.

In the third grade they wanted to put me in a special school because I was so far behind in reading (somewhere around the second half of the first grade or first half of the second grade).

I also was horrible at math.

In the second half of the third grade, they called my mother into school towards the end of the year because I tested out with the reading comprehension of junior year of high school.

I never got over the math difficulty, and believe it or not, still cannot multiply. I'm not kidding either, most of the multiplication tables are still a mystery to me.

However, I did develop coping mechanisms and made it through 2 semesters of statistics in university, and later created product pricing algorithms as part of my part of my job as a marketing product manager.

I guess I'm saying is that with love and patience things do get better, and perhaps Tyler may just be a diamond in the rough, just waiting to sparkle and shine.

This is well said and I appreciate hearing that children with difficulties can become successful as adults. We have to worry about so much as parents and I hate worrying about my kids in school because, really, is kindergarten really the big picture? I know many people, my husband included, that just did what they had to do to get by in school but ended up being great workers in life.

Congrats V on your A!:cool1: :thumbsup2
Holly - great news for you and Tyler!
Nan - congrats on selling the house!:)
Deborah - your English gets what you mean across! Your upbeat attitude comes through in your posts

Hello to everybody else!

Things have been busy for us, as Ken let you all know.
Long job interview story:
I had part 1 of a job interview on Friday. I couldn't get off work to drive to the other town for the interview so I'd asked them if they could do a phone interview. The lady had to get back to me on that, but she phoned me back in 10 minutes and said yes to the phone interview, but they could only do part over the phone, so if the phone interview went okay, then I'd have to go up later to do the rest of the interview. So they phoned me on my cell phone on Friday, and I'm sitting out in the lumber yard, because that's the only spot I could get phone reception and privacy (Ken had the van to take kids to park, otherwise I'd have gone somewhere better). They phoned 3 minutes late, said hello and got disconnected, they phoned back, got disconnected again, they phoned back again. Third time's the charm and actually stayed connected, but I'm nervous and wondering what else will go wrong:sad2: . When I got off the phone, I thought I'd done horrible answering the questions:scared: , and I figured I'd blown it between the poor answers, the phone disconnecting, and my refusal to go in person that day; but yesterday they phoned and asked me to come up this week to finish it off :cool1: So I still might not get the job (they said they are interviewing 4 people), but at least I have a shot, and it'll be a new experience answering "behavioural questions". If this one doesn't pan out, something else will eventually.

Good luck with the interview. If you are on to the behavioral interview, that's a very good sign!:cool1:

Edwardian sounds pretty good to me, so long as I could have been upper or upper middle class. I at least seem to be gathering up the clothing.

Remember that show on PBS where they made the family live in the Edwardian house??? I think you'd be great... if they have a Mac, & of course Mrs B & Mrs. F...

I know... Sukie will tell me he grew up in a house just like that!!!

I like that explanation--COMING OUT OF AN ICE AGE.

Jan...up here they do that... it's great...

That's the one thing I don't miss about being in the NYC area... how many people were crime victims each day... up here.. .they report if the geese get into the lake at the park...

Quick drive-by:

I found out today that my car is totaled. I was given a preliminary figure for the dollar amount but it could change. It'll be a week or two before I get any money. Now I have to figure out what to do about a car, but I have a rental for now so I'm not under the gun to make a quick decision.

Jackie, have you heard anything yet?

As you all might be able to tell from this spate of posting, this is the first time today I have gotten any time to myself.

I would say work is hard and stressful, except I'm too busy to notice.

I didn't even get to take 10 minutes for lunch today. I ended up eating at my desk and finishing my lunch in a meeting. I squeezed in all of 4 minutes today, which consisted of the trips to and from the microwave.

There is so much piled onto my team, that I think the trolly has officially arrived in Looneytown.

To top it off, I had 2 people out of work today, one of whom decided to send me an email at 6:45 yesterday evening to tell me she was taking a PTO day.

I am trying to be kind and think that there must have been some extenuating circumstances, but I usually do like to at least know the morning before, because I left work yesterday, having factored her in as part of the over plan.

On the plus side, I continue to take commuter rail home. I caught the 5:21 PM train and even with the 10 block walk to my house from the station, I was in the door at 6:45 PM, which is not bad at all.

But, now I'm home and unwinding a bit.

Cheri,

I'm not sure if condolences or congratulations are in order, one never knows what people are thinking.

Did Jackie send you the Consumer Reports stuff? If you want me to look anything up, let me know.

Just wait until you see us in September, your jaw will drop open. The final accoutrement is winging it's way to us from Vermont even as we speak.

Oh... for a minute there... i read WIGGING!!! :scared1:

But I wouldn't put it past you.... :rolleyes1
