I'm back on the grid finally!! 2 weeks with no internet access was painful!

Of course not as painful as the delivery of our "household goods" (as the government likes to refer to our stuff) was yesterday.

They packed and moved everything. Our living room tv stand got pancaked! As did one of our standing floor lamps. The matching lamp is MIA as is a box of DVDs and a plastic storage tub. What should have been a four hour delivery turned into 8 as the people on the CA end did not match the inventory sheet up to the item numbers correctly. We were shocked when they showed up with a roll of number stickers and had to write everything down.

When we moved 6 years ago that company used bar codes and scanner likeyou use at Target for the gift registry. They then scanned all the boxes again when they came off the truck. There were like 2 that got missed and took 15 minutes to find. These guys all said they never heard of such new fangled devices.

Our new apartment is great and once we unpack everything it will be better.

We are off to WDW tomorrow to buy our FL Res Premium APs. 3rd day in Florida we went and got our FL licenses so we are good to go!

Hope everyone is doing well and sorry for such a long post!

Well, it was an absolutely stunning opening to the Olympics. For 10 years I worked on live theater stages making shows fun and now I design one person presentations and it takes everything I have to make them great. To see what their creative team did was mind blowing. I'm sure that every Broadway, show producer, Cirque designers and all the other major large event coordinators were dropping their jaws and taking notes last night. It really takes the old phrase, "Come on guys, lets put on a show!" My first day of film school they defined cinema as the art of combining science and theater and that was the epitome of a craft that I can barely imagine watching let alone creating such a vision. Walt would have been proud of the Chinese last night. :wizard:

Can you tell I love the Olympics? I thought I would be a gymnast in the Olympics when I was little and was lucky enough to meet Cathy Rigby (for you youngins she was the first American woman to ever win a medal in the Olympics in Gymnastics) When I realized I wasn't going to hit that goal, I decided I would be a commentator for sports. At that time my parents told me that women weren't commentators for sports.... stupid me I believed them! :headache: But I think I've told you that little mishap before. Happy Olympics day one everyone.

Hi Kelly,
Our cable installers managed to get our cable going last night at 8pm - so we only missed the first 1/2 hour. Loved the giant LED screen!!!

This is what Ian is really expecting for the cake...

Hi Holly :goodvibes
I went to the Dr's this morning and I will have another 3 1/2 weeks off work for my wrist (surgery was 2 weeks ago) :cool1: :cool1: I know I shouldn't be so happy about this...but I can't help it!! I don't want to go back to work!! So yipee, I get to enjoy the rest of the summer. Sure wish I could afford to actually go somewhere , but I'll be content with reading, relaxing and watching the Olympics, and playing with Serenity, of course :cutie: Serenity and her mom have just left to spend the weekend with some relatives who live about an hour's drive away. I love them, but it is so nice to have my space back for a few days! I guess I'm sounding pretty selfish today :guilty:

Kathe

Kathe, I sure understand this. My brother who lives in SC drove up today and took mom to her house with the idea of sorting though her stuff and deciding what to throw away and what to keep and what to sell.

She has said NO to this for a year and my brother finally told her he was going to do it without her....so she went along.

He will have her till Thursday and I have my family back from church camp...it is so nice to just have my family together for once....

Leslie, very cute pictures! :goodvibes Schools here don't start for almost another month. There's a dumb law in Michigan that schools aren't allowed to start before Labor Day, so they all start the day after. Something to do with not wanting to interfere with tourism, I don't know.

VA has the Labor Day law too, but here it is because they used to need the kids to harvest the tobacco (and other crops)....

Hi Cheri  Hope the soreness goes away soon . You have an awful lot planned for someone in an energy slump! I bet it will do you good to keep busy though...and hope it won't be long before you get up one day and realize you feel like yourself again. :goodvibes

Kathe

Kathe said exactly what I was thinking!! Take Care Cheri and get better very very soon!!

Lisa

Jan :)

Thanks - I'll try to get a lot of pics to post while we're in WDW tomorrow. But I won't be able to post them until Friday as I fly out Mon morning to spend 4 days in DC for work.

Welcome home! It must be great to be on the other side of the journey.

Very much so! We never thought we would get to live in FL at this point in life so we're pretty excited to be here :cool1:

The weather is just perfect here in DC!! Today there was no humidity and 80 degrees!!

Hi John, so good to see you here! How've you been? How are Amy & Sophia? How's Manuel's recovery going? Your dad?

Nice to hear from you, John. Hope all is well.

Woody

Hey John, glad you stopped in. Cheri and I were just talkling at dinner Monday night, wondering how you all were doing!

.

Hi John :) Hope everyone's keeping well!? I'm afraid I'm not much of a sport's fan.....except when the Olympics are on! I'm so excited to be able to be home and hopefully get to watch a bit more of the coverage this time around! :thumbsup2

Kathe

Jon's team is the Browns too but Favre isn't playing and the Jets are winning now :lmao:

Well, let's see . . . several days away, and several pages behind again.

My brother is still in recovery. He is now on his feet and walking with a walker - he has made it down the hallway. Not sure if he will make it back for school in a few weeks, but he is working hard. We have not discussed the cancer lately - just trying to get him over this hurdle.

We have had a pretty busy summer. Lots going on every day. My sister has been home the last couple of weeks, and that's why I have had a few moments to get on here. She is staying with dad and keeping him company.

Sophia and I have been biking as much as we can - about 6 miles a night on a nice trail near our home after dinner.

Amy and Alex have new iPhones - but since I have a work phone, not me . . .:(

I keep loading Aps on Amy's phone though.

Next weekend we are taking Sophia to D.C. - her first trip there. We are going to meet up with Kim and family so the girls can get together. Kim has to be there on business, so we are making the drive for us - about 6 hours.

I guess that's about it for now. Hope you are all well. I did hear about Cherie's accident (think that was awhile ago) and about Kaylee's illness.

Ian, I like the coach and carriage cake myself . . . :woohoo:

Hey Lisa!

Remember me?

Anyway, just saw your name and thought I'd drop in on you all. We are just about jumping out of our skins on the EB and wanted to thank all the DIS-sers who blogged on the May. You all set the standard for our trip and we hope to have as successful one as the May one was.

If you all want, I'm sure there will be several blogging, posting and what not so please feel free to drop by and say :wave2:

Have a good one. I will admit that we are not as talkative as you all were. I think you all hit thread 15 before we left and we are struggling get OUT of 13. YUCK! What an unlucky number. BTW, Joey Fatone will not be on the ship - rumor has it that some tweeny bopper group girls will be on it. Alas! Oh well, guess we'll make our own fun.

:yay: Hay Bubba! Hay V! Hope your all doing good.

Boy, all of a sudden everyone is coming to DC!! Where are you staying?? I was supposed to be in Blacksburg next weekend helping Daniel get ready for school, but it looks like that will be the next weekend.

Hey Laura!! I keep thinking about the EB trip we cancelled.....but we could never have gone with my mom in the shape she is in.....

By the way, I was your SECRET MICKEY PAL!! I never got to tell you that!!

We are staying at the Mayflower Renaissance. I have never stayed there in D.C. Every time I have been there I have been at the Grand Hyatt. We have a tour of the Capital scheduled for Tuesday, but otherwise, we are just kicking around, taking the girls to the museums and monuments.

Do you recommend one of the "hop on - hop off" bus tours over any of the others? We think we will buy a two day pass for one of those to get around town.

The long range looks great for next weekend!!

BTW . . . the weather has been awesome here too! It has been just great for bike riding - almost COLD when we ride the trail through the woods in the evening!
