Go hit the food court and then enjoy the lounge!!! (sorry it's probably our crappy weather doing it to you...)

Shannon, winter tires and negative temps and plugging in vehicles? I'm sorry to say this, but I'm sure glad I don't live where you do! I can barely handle our cold and we haven't dipped below 12F yet! No winter tires to worry about and definitely no plug in vehicles. How miserable winter must be up there.

I can't even begin to imagine what a drain this time of year must be on you guys with kids and families.

It seems like there is so much pressure this time of year.

It is all in how you look at it. We buy very little, but look all the time in ways to give and do that as much as possible. One of Annie's class is collecting new mittens, hats and gloves. Our Neighbor's child is collecting 10,000 gifts just for kids in Fairfax County. We got several exact gifts and tonight Gretchen is packing and wrapping at their warehouse. We have collected food and adopted a family with two girls our girls age. They wanted really simple things.

My kids are each getting one thing. Daniel is getting a new cell phone.
Annie is getting this really fancy hair dryer and Gretchen is getting a Flat Iron for her hair.

It is so much more fun to find different ways to give.....instead of going to the mall....the mall is YUCK.

Hello everybody! I'm tired of this cold weather crap. Yesterday I forgot to bring the cord to plug the van in at work, and by the end of the day it was dead. Luckily I work in a plant full of men, so it was no problem to get someone to come and jumpstart it for me. But by then all the repair shops were closed, so I couldn't do anything about it. I was supposed to go mail xmas cards yesterday but they were closed before I could get there because of the van. But then I was meeting a friend for dinner, and we had a great visit and the van even started after my 2.5 hr dinner chat. So I got home and plugged it in, and thought I'd be okay this morning. Then I headed inside at 9pm, and wrapped xmas presents and packed them up, for Ken to deliver this week while he's in his work town. By then it was 1am and it was definitely time for bed. Then today started crappy, because the van wouldn't even start. Just click click click and nothing. So waited and hour for the AAA guy to come and get it started, and then waited for it run long enough to charge up enough to drive. Then got it into a shop and its getting a new battery. And I'm sick of the cold weather! What really sucks is Ken's been saying the battery is going, and I had Walmart do a battery test when I got my winter tires on, but Walmart said it was fine. They were wrong.

December --------------------------> May

You've got a long road ahead!

I forgot that up there you need heating blocks for your cars in the winter! Luckily, we don't need that down here in Chicago. But, I understand, according the the Farmers Almanac that this is going to be the worst winter in over 30 years.

You know it has been 1 year since Frank was so very sick.....seems like just yesterday, but I am glad I am home tonight and not hanging out at the hospital.

Frank is doing so well....it really is a miracle!!

My team at work is heavy into collecting for the women's shelter (domestic violence) and the teenage boy's residence (substance abuse). It's also nice to see that other people are joining in and we are getting stuff from people outside my team.

While Christmas is not important to me, I'm happy that we can be doing something for people who are in need. We're collecting really basic stuff like shaving cream, deodorant, toothbrushes. Our area is starting to look like a drugstore.

We also have some toys for the children in the women's center.

In both centers these are people who have nothing, and just ran away from bad situations with the clothing on their backs.

I'm glad that some of the kids in the women's shelter will at least get a small toy at Christmas.

Both of these shelters do needy work, but are overlooked in favor of the more "popular" charities.

We try to do this all year long....but often does not happen. Christmas and then summer when we are not so busy with school work. It is a very important part of our family.

So much better than the Mall....Mall=YUCK

We are in the grips of a snowstorm.

I think we've already had about 4 inches of snow and it is going to keep snowing overnight.

I'll have to shovel in the morning.

I took the commuter train home, so it wasn't so bad. I heard on the news that the drive from downtown out to the suburbs or back in is 4 hours.

I however did have a 1 mile walk home in the snow. Not too bad. Luckily it warms up to snow.

I did do a bit of shoveling. We had about 6 inches or so on the front steps and in the front yard.

I cleared the steps and a path for Truman and Tallulah. When you only stand about 10 inches or so tall, half a foot is pretty deep.

Sukie let them out while I was shoveling and they loved it, plunging into the snow. Considering they're white, they were well camouflaged, except for their eyes, noses and tongues.

I'm sure they'll be happy for the path and the "connivence" area I dug out for them, once it stops snowing and the temperature drops.

Think your weather is on the way here.....but we are supposed to warm up tomorrow, so it will not hang around. Girls are praying for at least a delayed opening in the morning.

Hey everybody. I am leaving tomorrow night for San Diego and board the ship on Friday. So I will be away for a while. I am not sure if I am going to purchase any minutes on the ship. I need to check in on my flight in 9 minutes. LOL.

I have had a pretty bad scare this week. I have a lump in my right breast and had a biopsy last Thursday. The doctor called today and said that it appears to be benign, but still have some additional tests to run. He did say that the chance is slim that it is cancer at this point but if it is, it will be a kind that they can treat very successfully. So I am thankful for this news.

All this talk of what all of you guys do to make Christmas brighter for others is really making me ashamed. I am going to make a change and spend alot more of my time and money helping others in the new year. That will be my new year resolution. (I always say I am going to lose weight but it hasn't worked yet, so I need a new one. LOL)

We just can NOT have a snow day tomorrow here! Of course, I can't afford to miss a day of work, but more importantly, tomorrow is Tyler's new IEP with the teachers and principal and social worker from the new school coming to his current school to share info and learn about him, give him a chance to meet his new teachers, and then go down the street together to the new school for him to get a tour because Friday is his last day at his current school. It will really suck if this gets delayed because tomorrow and Friday all those teachers might not be available to do this. Maybe even if schools are closed tomorrow the meeting might still go on, depending on how far all the teachers have to drive.

But we already have almost 2 inches, which isn't enough to even have to shovel, BUT it's only been snowing an hour and is supposed to snow hard all night! Not looking good for school tomorrow. :scared:

Tammy, how scary. I hope everything's OK. Please keep us posted. Prayers headed your way. I hope that despite your week you're still able to relax and enjoy your cruise! We'll miss you if you're not able to check in here, but look forward to seeing pics afterwards and hearing all about it.
