We just can NOT have a snow day tomorrow here! Of course, I can't afford to miss a day of work, but more importantly, tomorrow is Tyler's new IEP with the teachers and principal and social worker from the new school coming to his current school to share info and learn about him, give him a chance to meet his new teachers, and then go down the street together to the new school for him to get a tour because Friday is his last day at his current school. It will really suck if this gets delayed because tomorrow and Friday all those teachers might not be available to do this. Maybe even if schools are closed tomorrow the meeting might still go on, depending on how far all the teachers have to drive.

But we already have almost 2 inches, which isn't enough to even have to shovel, BUT it's only been snowing an hour and is supposed to snow hard all night! Not looking good for school tomorrow. :scared:

This must be a huge storm.....so cold and wet here.....

Tammy, how scary. I hope everything's OK. Please keep us posted. Prayers headed your way. I hope that despite your week you're still able to relax and enjoy your cruise! We'll miss you if you're not able to check in here, but look forward to seeing pics afterwards and hearing all about it.

Tammy, I am also glad to hear it sounds like everything is okay....

Very big. We had absolutely no snow before this started around 7pm. It's amazing how fast it's coming down. There definitely will be no school tomorrow.

Now the weather report says the storm gets heavier Thursday night and by Friday morning there's supposed to be another 6 inches more on top of what we get tonight and tomorrow, so if we manage to have school tomorrow and Thursday, it looks like definitely no school Friday, but that's OK because I won't have to miss work because Tyler will be at his dad's. That will be sad though because all the kids will miss their classroom Christmas parties.

I think I will fit in your suitcase!:goodvibes :goodvibes

Move over Lisa... we're all going with Nan!!!

It is all in how you look at it. We buy very little, but look all the time in ways to give and do that as much as possible. One of Annie's class is collecting new mittens, hats and gloves. Our Neighbor's child is collecting 10,000 gifts just for kids in Fairfax County. We got several exact gifts and tonight Gretchen is packing and wrapping at their warehouse. We have collected food and adopted a family with two girls our girls age. They wanted really simple things.

My kids are each getting one thing. Daniel is getting a new cell phone.
Annie is getting this really fancy hair dryer and Gretchen is getting a Flat Iron for her hair.

It is so much more fun to find different ways to give.....instead of going to the mall....the mall is YUCK.

That's a very good way of doing things... and I'm sure the kids learn a great lesson... :goodvibes :goodvibes

December --------------------------> May

You've got a long road ahead!

I forgot that up there you need heating blocks for your cars in the winter! Luckily, we don't need that down here in Chicago. But, I understand, according the the Farmers Almanac that this is going to be the worst winter in over 30 years.

Oh... thanks... :rotfl:

Guess I am talking to myself mostly tonight.

For all the talk of snow and winter weather (supposed to snow/ice here tonight) I thought you would love this video. It will make you smile for sure!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCa72UEYv5E

That's the way I play in the snow too... no coat... no shoes...

You know it has been 1 year since Frank was so very sick.....seems like just yesterday, but I am glad I am home tonight and not hanging out at the hospital.

Frank is doing so well....it really is a miracle!!

Lisa... we take all of them that we can get... Glad he's doing so well...

My team at work is heavy into collecting for the women's shelter (domestic violence) and the teenage boy's residence (substance abuse). It's also nice to see that other people are joining in and we are getting stuff from people outside my team.

While Christmas is not important to me, I'm happy that we can be doing something for people who are in need. We're collecting really basic stuff like shaving cream, deodorant, toothbrushes. Our area is starting to look like a drugstore.

We also have some toys for the children in the women's center.

In both centers these are people who have nothing, and just ran away from bad situations with the clothing on their backs.

I'm glad that some of the kids in the women's shelter will at least get a small toy at Christmas.

Both of these shelters do needy work, but are overlooked in favor of the more "popular" charities.

I'm glad to know your idea has taken flight... I'm sure it will be appreciated by all...

Hi Ian!! Glad someone else is home!! :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

Hi Lisa!!! :yay:

We are in the grips of a snowstorm.

I think we've already had about 4 inches of snow and it is going to keep snowing overnight.

I'll have to shovel in the morning.

I took the commuter train home, so it wasn't so bad. I heard on the news that the drive from downtown out to the suburbs or back in is 4 hours.

I however did have a 1 mile walk home in the snow. Not too bad. Luckily it warms up to snow.

I did do a bit of shoveling. We had about 6 inches or so on the front steps and in the front yard.

I cleared the steps and a path for Truman and Tallulah. When you only stand about 10 inches or so tall, half a foot is pretty deep.

Sukie let them out while I was shoveling and they loved it, plunging into the snow. Considering they're white, they were well camouflaged, except for their eyes, noses and tongues.

I'm sure they'll be happy for the path and the "connivence" area I dug out for them, once it stops snowing and the temperature drops.

Indoor plumbing... :thumbsup2

Hey everybody. I am leaving tomorrow night for San Diego and board the ship on Friday. So I will be away for a while. I am not sure if I am going to purchase any minutes on the ship. I need to check in on my flight in 9 minutes. LOL.

I have had a pretty bad scare this week. I have a lump in my right breast and had a biopsy last Thursday. The doctor called today and said that it appears to be benign, but still have some additional tests to run. He did say that the chance is slim that it is cancer at this point but if it is, it will be a kind that they can treat very successfully. So I am thankful for this news.

All this talk of what all of you guys do to make Christmas brighter for others is really making me ashamed. I am going to make a change and spend alot more of my time and money helping others in the new year. That will be my new year resolution. (I always say I am going to lose weight but it hasn't worked yet, so I need a new one. LOL)

Have a great time Tammy!!! Think of us and we will do the same!!! Love to the kids!

Hi everyone!!
Hope you are all doing fantastic! :)

We have 106 DVC points that need to be booked and used by 8/09. Since I don't think we are going to make it to WDW before then :(, we are considering renting them. I thought I would ask here first, is anyone in need of points for an upcoming trip? I would say that the 106 is good for a studio at most resorts during most times....although maybe not a full week during peak at some of the higher. It can also be used for a few nights in a larger unit. Our home resort is OKW, but that doesn't matter now since we are under 7 months for all bookings, so you can book at any resort with availability. I thought I would ask here before I put it out onto the DVC rent board...so if you are remotely interested, PM me asap and we can talk!

Happy Tuesday....I'm personally hoping for the major snowstorm they say is coming to hit tonight so I can be snowed in tomorrow! :)

Sent Kaylee a PM. Annie tonight said "I do not want to be here on Jan 20th" There is supposed to be 4 million people here. I started thinking that maybe a quick trip to Orlando might be nice.

I went on Craig's list and other 5 bedroom homes in my area are going from $10,000 to $15,000 for 4 days.....what crazy person would pay that much to be in DC and stay 15 miles outside the city? The news is reporting that homes are being snatched up.

Would you let a stranger into your home for 4 days for $10,000?

Tammy so sorry about your scare. I hope everything will be OK.

Have a great vacation.

Definitely not. :scared:

Wow, I need to stop looking out the window. Every time I look, it's noticeably worse. It's freaky.

Ian, has it stopped snowing for you or is it still going?

Often when it's snowing like this, I'll go out and uncover my car so I don't have as much to shovel off in the morning. I suspect it wouldn't make a difference this time if I went and did it now.

It's still snowing here.

I'm going to have to get up 30 minutes earlier tomorrow so I can shovel.

Daniel just messaged me. The average for the Accounting final was 20/50. He got a 39/50...and he was disappointed .... but I told him look at the average!! I think he did great!!

Oh my gosh, that means there's no end in sight here then! Well, we might be having a neighborhood shovelling party for the first time this year. We had a big one last year and it was quite fun because Tyler and other neighborhood kids were shovelling for the elderly neighbors and the adults were all catching up and chatting while shovelling. The warm weather folks wouldn't believe it, but it's sometimes quite a social event, well, depending on your neighborhood of course. It's that way in our neighborhood. :thumbsup2

Wow, way to go Daniel! You're right, he did great!

Okay, what is wrong with me that I am thinking about this....
There's nothing wrong with you Lisa. It's a lot of money, and a very tempting idea. I'd probably be tempted too if I were in your shoes. But I think I'd feel creeped out wondering just who was in my house and exactly what they did in my house. Could just be me being paranoid though.

Here is the map...it is the same storm here as you guys are getting.

Well, you are not the only one who thinks I am crazy. I just keep thinking how much Western Fairfax County Ministries could use that money...

So many of my friends said NO WAY.

But then again, I would really need to clean...:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Oh wow, that sure is a big chunk of ugly! That view makes me feel better though because at least it looks like there's not much left from our end. Sorry that you still have lots more snow ahead. :guilty:

I see about 4 inches on my picnic table outside now. I know that's still not much for people up Shannon & Ken's way (or even Michelle), but considering that's only in the last 2 1/2 hours with all night to still snow, that's a bit alarming. Sort of exciting too, because it will be sort of fun to be stuck at home!
