WBRepo-Ship of Thieves-Remember the Magic Pt 8

Last night, I heard on Chicago public radio, during a local segment that the post office is seeing very different types of letters to Santa this year.

They have about 12,000 letters downtown, and the kids are predominantly not asking for big stuff, but necessities like clothing. Letters about parents out of work, etc.

I learned that you can go down to the main post office, browse through the letters, and choose one/s that you will can respond to the child's wish.

My company is right near the main post office. I think on Monday, I'm going to propose to some people I know at work that we consider playing Santa. It might be nice to give some kids something to believe in.

I used to organize toy drives every year at my previous company, not the usual Toys for Tots, but more overlooked areas.

Once I collected toys for terminally ill children in the county hospital. Another year it was for children in a shelter who were victims of domestic violence. I guess I go sort of fringe, and areas of charity that might make some people uncomfortable.

Frankly, I myself have zero emotional feeling for Christmas. None at all. Zippo. It is really something that happens around me, in which I don't participate. It never meant absolutely nothing to me when I was a child, and means nothing to me as an adult.

But, just because it means nothing to me it doesn't mean it means nothing to kids.

It breaks my heart that there are kids who do desperately want Christmas to come to where they're staying and for Santa to remember them.

Kids should be remembered.

I was really moved by the piece on the radio. I'm still thinking about it. I'll call the post office or the radio station on Monday.

Ian - is it supposed to snow all day, or is it done for now?

Kelly - sorry for everyone being sick...great to see you though! We miss you.

Cheri - thanks for checking in w/ us...glad you're having a great time (I forgot to tell you guys that I got "1st timer" buttons for Cheri & Elaine)

Holly - the lockdown sounds fun, hopefully Tyler will be able to make it. DHS is Disney's Hollywood Studios (it took me a while to figure that one out). Too bad about the EMHE family....it's 1 think if the mortgage gets paid off so that the $ can then go towards taxes, but it seems that most of the time the EMHE crew builds TOO much house for these struggling families.

Angie - so good to see you stopping by. Sounds like you & Dr Hug are having a great time.

Gaylean - love all the pics...my vote though is for the window & the Acapulco sign.

Nan - glad you guys had a great time last night & I love the pic of the kids w/ Santa.

Deb - keep up the GREAT work - YOU CAN DO IT!!

Who am I missing??? Don't mean too...you know I love you all!

It's a very light snow. I think there are supposed to be flurries on and off.

Shoveling was not bad at all, because it is light fluffy snow, not the wet and heavy stuff.

I got to use my lighter, plastic, ergonomic shovel. Just one of my 17,000 snow shovels (the right tool for the right job).

I kind of know what you mean, Ian. Christmas for us is about our memories as kids. Since there are no little ones involved for us here, I usually pick a child from the angel tree at the mall, or a group of us from work have 'adopted' families for the holidays.

Every year Peg and I discuss how much decorating we'll do, or if we'll have a tree (and who's house it will be at). Dragging all the stuff out and putting it up seems a hassle, but we are always glad on Christmas Day that we did it. There's talk of traveling for Christmas next year...at least a get away weekend. We'll see.....

WOW - that's nice that the post office allows people to play Santa. I think it's wonderful of you to want to do that for the kids. Speaks volumes about the man you are

BTW - sorry that you needed to cxnl the January trip, though completely understandable. But I do agree w/ Jackie & Diane - no cancelling Tortola!

 Just one of the many things we all love about you.

Good idea about the laundry....especially since my machine is about 12 steps away from the computer.

I'm gonna throw in a load and will be back! :thumbsup2

HI Jackie! :goodvibes And Monica and Ian and anybody else around. :grouphug:

I've only been awake 2 and a half hours, been watching the rest of "Hancock", eating like there's no tomorrow, and about to go back to sleep for a few hours. Super sleepy.

 Angie...see your green light is still on! And Ian's too! Although I've learned it still shows up for quite a few minutes after someone has signed off. And Monica is in 'stealth' mode, her indicator is never lit!

Marilyn, you should feel privileged because I have never sent a Christmas card this early before  I haven't gotten the picture to send yet so I will just not send it to anyone and post it on here instead :goodvibes [/QUOTE

Oh, I do feel privileged- even more when I receive it!!!

V, looks like a fun place for dinner :thumbsup2 and enjoy the show :smokin: :rotfl2:

Today is Paul's bday, we are going to have dinner together at Buca d Bepo (sp) we have a ressie to sit in the kitchen, thought it would be fun :dance3: but dinner is at 8:30pm :scared1: that's ok on the cruise since we are 3+ hours ahead, but hard for us here since the kiddos will be starving...wish us luck:rolleyes1

Oh yeah, we got our small claims notice. Not bad, not good. We didn't have to refund the deposit to our deadbeat tenant, but he didn't have to pay for the rest of the damages either. Made me mad at first, but I'm over it now. Lesson learned send the letter upon tenant moving out with a huge estimate to CYA if necessary. Also, if we end up with a tenant that I don't like again, I'm not going to be nice and "let them stay" I'll just give them notice and be done with them when they start to make me concerned. [/QUOTE

Happy Birthday Paul.:cool1: Enjoy your meal out.

Sorry about the small claims result Nan.

Hi Connie. We can't pop to The Beach Club till a week Sunday I'm afraid. We are staying there then anbd I was certainly planning on saying hi!! We are out and about this Sunday looking at our villas we have booked for next year. Remember, our October one is close to you!!!!

We had a lovely hour with Ann and Albert yesterday. They are at Amelia Island at a 'friends home now.

Had a good day today. AK this morning. Managed Nemo musical which we love, Everest, kali River Rapids, Flights of Wonder, and a stroll around the lovely park. Bused over to Epcot and rode Test Track, then ambled over to International Gateway for the Merry Mixer, then back home for a while.

Last night we had a great window seat at the California Grill, and we could just sit there and watch the Christmas fireworks, and the castle all lit up. Ate too much though.

Something happened to the quoting system in my post above. I hope you can work it out!!!

(Not sure if anyone diagnosed this yet, if so, sorry,)
If you look you will see that there is a missing bracket ] after the two [/QUOTE things at the end of each of the quotes. If you replace them it looks like this:

Oh, also, Ian she said under no circumstances are you allowed to cancel Tortola, you will just have to adjust OTHER vacation plans, if necessary! (I feel the same)

.

I need to see how the dust settles in January once all the medical bills are sorted out.
