Ian & Sukie: Warm winter greetings on your restful day off work. Enjoy some quality time, snuggled up inside where it's warm!![]()
Merry Christmas to everybody else!
I reminded Tyler not to get up if he wakes up when it's still dark, and he did well. He did get up about 5am, I heard him come into my room, he whispered "good morning" very quietly, and when I didn't move, I heard him climb back into his bed to either go back to sleep or wait, I don't know. But he came and woke me about 7:30 and said, "MOM, Santa came! And I see a POLAR BEAR!"

The paper started flying, we had fun, etc. And then I realized TWO PRESENTS WERE MISSING! I'd wrapped them separately because they were just delivered yesterday, and I'd forgotten to get them from where they were hidden in my room! So when he wasn't looking, I told him I had to use the bathroom, and I quickly grabbed those gifts and put them in the hallway really close to the wall. I got him to believe that Santa left a couple there by mistake and he just didn't see them before because he was in a hurry to get to the presents under the tree.I think he bought it, or he just didn't care, because it meant 2 more presents to open.
Then we had breakfast and went out to shovel. No snow this time, but tons of ice piled up at the end of my driveway. For some reason, the snowplow folks decided it would be a good idea to plow the slushy snow, so it all froze overnight into sort of an ice hill. Tyler came up with the idea of getting my metal garden shovel to break up the chunks and I was able to shovel them out with his little shovel.![]()
Then Tyler cleaned the living room so it looks just as nice as before he went to bed. Most of his presents, he just put in his bedroom closet, didn't even take many out of their packaging. At first I thought maybe he doesn't like them, but he told me he's just making room for Grandma and Aunt Dianna to bring more presents.![]()
Off for a quick shower and to wait for my mom and aunt. They should be here in about 15 minutes.![]()
I thought you were going to say that you put them on the porch where you had left the others until Tyler went to bed and then tell him that since Santa has to come in through the door (because you have no fireplace--

Glad you had a great day.
When we were kids we had to play quietly together or alone until 8 am and then we could get Dad and Mom. We learned to tell time for Christmas. They wanted a photo of us looking at the fireplace and our stockings and several more during the opening.
We opened one gift at a time, round robin and Christmas morning took all day. Nothing got lost or overlooked and everyone got to see the appreciation for each gift. Worked well. Since some presents were jokes they were even funnier as everyone got to see the initial reaction.
We got a stocking and one unwrapped gift under or near our stocking from Santa. All the rest were from Mom and Dad. (They had friends before I was born whose kids said "How come we get presents from aunts, uncles, grandparents and Santa but not much from you? So they decided Mom and Dad should get top credit for presents.) We did the same with our kids.
In kindergarten our older son asked me if Santa was really real. I asked him what he thought. He said he thought Santa was "a pretend". I told him that he was right, but it was "a pretend" that everyone enjoyed, kids and adults. Then I asked if he was going to tell the other kindergarteners and he said NO

What we wish we had done is what some friends do. Each kid delivers his presents to the other family members around the room so he is really GIVING them. He WATCHES while they open the gifts Those kids GOT the joy of giving really young.
