Have you ever thought of renting an RV and going and camping out over at Ft. Wilderness with all the other snowbirds???

Kathe, I hope you didn't have to pay the extra postage that I forgot!

Nope! I guess someone at the post office had some Xmas spirit :thumbsup2

Jackie.....doesn't it feel good to know that you're paid so you're definitely going? Me and John found out that it was due one month earlier than we had thought.....so we questioned cancelling. We then checked that our friends were still going....because that's why we booked int he first place. Everyone said they knew it was due Jan 3rd. So we decided to juggle some things around and came up with the money. Now that we have, we know that we are definitely going. I still can't believe it.

So glad you haven't cancelled :thumbsup2

I hope it all goes well for your mom. John has to have a small basal cell carcinoma removed when we get back from our vacation. It is on his ear, and not dangerous, just could get yucky and bigger. He isn't looking forward to the op and having a bite taken out of his ear though!!!;)

Marilyn, tell John not to worry  My dad had the same removed from his ear a year ago, he couldn't believe how fast it healed, and he is diabetic so was worried it might be a problem...but it wasn't at all!

I think that would be even more expensive Michelle, and more basic of course!!!!

Will do, thank you Kathe. I think he is worried about having it done under a local more than anything!!

Ft Wilderness is nice, but it IS expensive. We stayed a couple of nights there, then the season moved to Magic season and we had to move out!

You can find some reasonable priced accommodation if you look around and go for a long time. The snowbirds go for up to 3 months or so. We can't manage that!!! The villa we stayed in in October has snowbirds in who go for 2-3 months each year. Now that we could have got for about £300 per week if not less. That is about $450($65ish a night) with lots of room and a private pool. I think that would be negotiable the longer you were there for. When we were looking for our 3 weeks last Feb/March we found a nice looking resort that had what we would call big mobile homes, but not mobile if you know what I mean. Now I couldn't get into any of them for love nor money as they were all take by snowbirds for the winter months, probably year after year. Or of course by their owners who went for that time too. Very reasonable they were too.

I love the mix of a week onsite then going off to a villa for complete relaxation.

Just wanted to add there are very reasonably priced hotels offsite too, though I wouldn't really enjoy a long stay in a hotel room. However I have an online friend who regularly went for 6 or so weeks to a hotel for under $30 per night including a free basic breakfast in a good clean chain hotel. There are lots under $45 if you just want to go and escape the winter but not too worried about the parks all the time.

Those are called Park Models, I believe. Many RVers who find a place they like to return to year after year exchange the RVs for those.

A couple of nights in off season are doable!! :thumbsup2

Happy New Year All!

I have been pretty quiet for a few months. More perhaps.

What a year 2010 was! A good portion of it for me was truly horrible. Work was a nightmare, and even that is understating it. It caused me to be sick, get taken to the hospital and endless other problems. I never realized just how much stress and unhappiness could have such an impact.

My job and work virtually consumed the year.

Happily also 2010 was a case of all's well that ends well. I found a new job, a bunch of dear friends came to share Thanksgiving with us. All this happened in just the last 6 weeks of the year.

I've been in the new job for a month, and I'm very, very happy.

On a somewhat positive note, my experience with the NY company did reset or lower my yardstick (metre stick for our friends to the north) for measuring just how toxic a work culture can be. It has really made me appreciate my new environment.

Also in the last month of the year, Illinois passed a civil union bill. Not quite marriage, but it offers us further protection in our home state, which does not recognize our California marriage status.

This is sad, but reality. It was a point driven home to me when I started my new job and they refused to recognize our marriage license. I had to fill out legal affidavits for the company for our "domestic partnership" something that they do not require of other couples with out of state marriage licenses.

This means we're going to get hitched again, this time in Illinois and are starting to plan another wedding.

So, now the new job, the wedding has thrown all of our vacation plans up in the air and we have to reassess some of our cruises.

Oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray, but I'm thrilled because instead of being disrupted due to bad things, they're being disrupted due to good things.

I also want to thank you my friend, for having given me so much moral support throughout 2010.

May 2011 bring everyone much happiness, good health and dreams come true.

Glad to hear that 2010 ended on such a positive note for you Ian. I wish you and Sukie all the best for 2011 and hope everything keeps moving in the right direction.

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year Gydell...and to all!!!

Hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year's :thumbsup2

Pretty quiet here, but I did have fun with Serenity. She came for a sleep over and just went home a little while ago. I'm too tired(or lazy ;)) to take the tree and all the decorations down today, so they will just have to wait until my next day off! I wanted to leave them up for Serenity's visit, she really enjoyed playing with all of my little people around the lighted Christmas houses :goodvibes
