Oh Deb, that is so difficult. I'm not too keen on the bribery thing with exams/grades etc, rather just giving something once results are known, then it can be something relating to the effort/results. However it is done now and has to be dealt with. I certainly don't think you should be liable for the $975 if you go down the route of waiting to see though. His mom has to decide about that. Either he goes anyway, but don't tell him until the grades are out, or his mom covers the cost if he isn't allowed to go, which I don't think you would want either. Perhaps his mom is aiming too high for his results and can be encouraged to drop her expectations.

I agree with Marilyn here. I'm in the camp of getting good grades for the sake of getting good grades.

According to his father (my bro) NO...Bs and Cs would be good for him. According to his mother, YES...he is capable and expected to get all As and Bs. Who knows. That's why they divorced. They never agree. I have no clue.

Jane and me never talked until recently. She tried to take over my wedding and when I wouldn't comply she told me that I would never see her son again. Well that didn't happen. My mother had both of her kids all summer long every summer while they were growing up. I saw them just about every day. Then they would come up to mom's house during the year too. I always saw them. I never saw their mother.

Now mom is gone and the kids have grown up. For the kids' sake, I pretent to like Jane. I really dislike her a lot. I hate that she uses her kids as a bargaining chip to get what she wants.

She told me that I had to call Casey today and talk to him about it and she told me that I should take him on my next cruise after the October ones. NO. I'm not doing what she wants. I didn't call him intentionally today and the offer only stands for October. If he doesn't make it on that one, then he's not going on any of them. She should say thank you for me being so generous to her child. I never heard that. All I got was grief.

I'm just not willing to deal with all this drama. It's not worth it. I'll end up cancelling and not offering anything else again. The real problem is that Tristan is her favorite. She says Casey is difficult because he's just like his dad. That is so wrong to do to the kid. Casey was my mom's favorite for the same reason. She used to dote on him. Now he has no one doing that in his life. I tried to pick up the slack by taking him on the cruise. His mother is going to ruin it for him completely. I feel so sorry for him. He really is a good kid.

Shame isn't it? It doesn't do any good for the child's confidence in what his mum thinks of him either. Silly woman. At least you have some time to think it through properly.

Fortunately, the child is very strong willed and independent. He'll be 18 in August and he better be ready to move out on his own. She's not going to tolerate any noncompliance to her rules. She'll kick him out.

I think you are going to have to take him off the ressie... the good thing is... it's IS October and you could add him later if you needed to. The ship won't be full... and we know excursions usually don't fill.

Great idea Shell, but I think he's going to get cancelled and this subject will be closed and never to be brought up again.

Try to find something, (with his mom...) perhaps school, other work, volunteer work, etc that he could do to prove himself worthy of a trip like this.

The thing is that I can't trust her. He'll do something to earn it and she'll agree for now, then the day before leaving for the trip he could say something that she doesn't like and she will pull the plug. It's too much money to lose and I have no trust in her to do the right thing.

I always tell Emma when her parents doubt her (and it's usually unfounded cause she's a great young woman who also gets great grades, etc...) to PROVE THEM WRONG!!!

Great idea, I can see it working in a normal healthy family relationship. Casey doesn't have that.

She will call me about something or if someone doesn't think she's good enough for something... and I always ask her... "What did I tell you to do???" And she'll tell me... "Prove them wrong..."

Emma is very lucky to have you as her auntie.

Well... yesterday was a tough one... but I'm doing much better today.

I'm starting a new - well semi new, I've used it before, med that helps with the exhaustion and lack of endurance.

It's called Provigil and it's sort of a stimulant so until my body gets used to it... I will probably be feeling like a combination of bouncing off the walls and wanting to clean the entire house in an hour... (no... I haven't started that one yet, but I did start dinner...)

We'll see how it goes. I'm hoping it will keep me awake during the day so I can get to sleep at night.

LOL! Different unis for the keepers is actually quite logical when you take into account offside rules and when there is a cross into the middle and a huge mixture of players in there. It helps the refs see at a glance who is allowed to use their hands and who isn't. They are designed to make sure they stand out from the rest of their team to help the refs more than anything.

BUT
when you have NO IDEA about all those rules, it makes no sense. Looks like they gyped the goalie and he has to wear old clothes.

I don't know those rules. I did not like soccer in gym class and never played soccer. My kids did not play soccer. i am totally uneducated.

but for formal I go black but I bring two dress for formal - one dress hot pink and one dress purple or new black dress which I bought for PC but too tight now fit me lovely ...

Mmmm, that is really what I have always thought about formal dresses, and I hadn't thought too much about if i would wear it again other than on the cruises. I should rethink. I do have the black dress with cream trim I bought last week too, though these dresses are more dressy than that one. Oh dear. I could perhaps order both and see, but then i have to pay for the return!!

It wasn't Planky's email that was causing the problems... it was the account that I set up for MOM (she always causes those problems...) Tech support figured it out and now we're all fine!!!

No, it wasn't on order. The plan was to wait until after final cruise payment to buy it. Cruise comes first! Even better, now that he doesn't want it, more money for excursions! I don't plan on doing much this time, but Tyler wants to do a dolphin swim again, so of course I'll make it happen. That's too cool of an experience to pass up. Last time, my mom paid for it as a birthday present for Tyler, so maybe this time she can do it for a Christmas present for him.

I don't think I've ever said this on here (aside from when work used to be horribly slow), but I'm BORED, BORED, BORED, BORED, BORED. I suppose I could start working on getting the living room purged and cleaned. Our coffee table is somewhere under a GIGANTIC mound of stuffed animals (actually, I think they're all Webkinz). Hmmm......maybe I can get some sort of shelving unit/storage unit specifically for Webkinz and keep it near the computer. And I'm realizing I need to buy tons of picture frames to put up all the pics I've been meaning to over the past couple years. Oh boy....here I go again! Yup, I have a before picture, so perhaps I'll have an after picture to compare later in the week.

too little too late. He was 2nd out of 3 (whopee) at the heat and dropped his chain (that means he is out) then did the same thing in the main. He is a whopping 0 for 5 this year. Frankly I'm a bit over the effort and money we have spent this year. He isn't trying or doing his part (with what I require at home) and Paul seems to think the budget is unlimited (ya - on the credit card) so I'm just done with the whole thing. And in a very pissy mood over it too - can ya tell

Now to get ready for a bbque for 8 people and finish 3 sets of volunteer books (accounting) tonight - then go back to a job that I dread tomorrow - not loving life right now.
