Was going to add, but the Dis goes down at 9.05am my time, that I personally don't think there is anything wrong with being a 'loner'. I think many of us are and I find other people finding us strange just because they aren't is a little unnecessary!! The world is full of a whole rainbow of different people that makes up a wonderful whole. If we were all loud exuberant extraverts it would be hard to find a place anyway!!!:rotfl2: If we were all so called loners they it would be a quiet uninteresting place indeed.

John and I are both loners and I don't know how we managed to find each other, but we fit perfectly. As many of you know, we turn down requests to join larger fun tables, and I hope you realise it isn't because we don't like you or don't want to spend time with you. It is just us. Michelle is a loner, but loves this kind of large group setting. Just different, and we should all embrace our differences. I think families are much harder on other family members who don't fit their idea of norm as they just feel they can treat people badly because they are family and it has worked before.

As they say you can't choose your family but you can choose your friends. But, we can choose not to be intimidated by nasty family members!!!

Ok, now back to the wonderful world of planning cruises!!!:rotfl2:

Perfectly said, Marilyn! :thumbsup2 And to add to the saying "you can't choose your family but you can choose your friend", you can also choose to consider friends as family......especially when the real family members treat you crummy. :grouphug:

Well... lets see... it's...

Michelle & Barbara 4

Timmy the you know what head... 1

(that's the amount of times we've hung up on each other in the last 24 hours...)

Lets see if he calls and screams for the third day in a row...

He even said my mom lied to him.

I told him he needed anger management classes and if the FBI ever saw him when he does this... he'd be out of a job...

Just don't answer the phone.

THIS generation in my family finally put to rest some family names that none of us want to see again. Wilda, Abagail, Bertha, Walter, Wilbur. Now...perhaps in another generation these old fashioned names will be charming. Actually, Abagail and Walter aren't awful...but Wilbur,Wilda and Bertha :sad2:

I was NOT named after my father (Jack), but after his favorite cousin Jacqueline. Peggy's name is NOT Margaret Josephine, but truely, Peggy Jo. Brother Paul was named after our family doctor but with the first name Warren (my dad's middle name). However, we've always called Paul by his middle name.

.

My grandmother is named Bertha Ellen. She goes by Ellen. She made her kids promise not to use "Bertha". I'm sure my Aunts are grateful. :)

Super tired, had a migraine most of the day yesterday and it only got worse when I went to bed. Every time I moved in my sleep last night, my head would throb so hard it would wake me up, so I didn't get much sleep. Head was throbbing so hard, I had trouble seeing on the way to work and the first couple hours at work. It gradually subsided by lunchtime, fortunately. I would have called in if I hadn't been on vacation over a week. We have some bad storms coming, so I suspect that's why I'm having such a time. Hopefully I'll feel better when the storms have passed. Off to bed.

Ian - you know you can just tell me to shut up don't you :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

::yes:: I agree I don't like to have people be bossy to be either - hence I've been MIA on that thread too.

Also - we're booked but I can't get my head around being away from work for 2 weeks - so in my mind I'm trying to figure out when or what to drop. Neither week is making me want to drop...

Well i've now posted again on that thread. So we can all move over and take it over and there will be no problems. ;)

Can't you just flick that jackhammering guy off your head like the lady does in the commercials? I really don't understand ... a simple flick and it is gone. That's what the commercials do... :confused3

What an emotional evening.

Shaelyn was playing her first playoff game in competitive sports, in soccer tonight. If they won they got to move on to play on Wednesday and then a game on Saturday. If they lost their season was done.

We got to the field and the coach was no where to be found. His older son and his daughter were there, but he wasn't. Add to that there was serious confusion about which team was supposed to play on which field and against which team. I went to the office with one of the other moms to get things straightened out. The team we were supposed to play moved to a different field and started playing another team. So the League had to come out and stop one game and get the 4 teams figured out as to who were supposed to play whom. When they got that figured out, it was discovered that the ref who was supposed to do our game went to the office and was told there that he could go home. So now we had the teams properly setup but no ref for the game. By this time our coach showed up and we found out that he had been suspended for one game for an incident that happened 2 games previous. To add insult to injury, we found out that the letters we as parents sent in to defend him were not even looked at by the Association. And they chose to suspend him, not at the last game but for the playoff game.

Needless to say I was more than a little choked. And I wasn't the only one. A few parents were upset. And I think we took it out by cheering louder than we had at any other game. We were all yelling out instructions to the girls like never before. It really galvanized the parents.

Oh and the girls. They played a really good game. According to Shaelyn they really didn't want to lose and were upset their coach wasn't allowed to be on the field with them.

They went down 1-0 by the end of the first half. That just got the parents cheering louder.

The girls started playing even better and by the end of the game, it was 3-1 for our Team in blue (sponsored by Walmart).

So Shaelyn's team won the game and their reward is a date with the first place team on Wednesday. But the parents really felt it was us against the Association. It was quite interesting to watch some parents get more into the game than they had all season.

I was supposed to play a soccer match on Wednesday in my adult league, but I'm going to skip it as I will be watching my daughter instead.

Ok, now back to the wonderful world of planning cruises!!!:rotfl2:

I guess there's a whole interesting bit to all of us...

& I like a group, cause I think I'm afraid of being in big situations alone.

It's something that happens here in the US and in the UK too for that matter. I think it's a matter of trying to fit in. Both here and in the UK, depending on the Hebrew name, parents will "match" the first initial of the Hebrew name with one in English.

In my case, my mother did not like the English translation of Yitzchak which is Isaac, and it was out of the question to pin a name like Yitzchak to me. So they looked for another boy's name that began with the letter I.

My peers in school would have been name, Ira, Ivan, Irving, etc.

I think my mother chose wisely.

Now funny thing ... in the UK Ian is a VERY common name for Jewish boys, and yep, they're Hebrew names ate usually Ytzchak.

When I live in the UK I got teased by friends in London for having such a common and steretypical Jewish boy's name.

Honestly... you don't look like a Yitzchak... Ian suits you much better... :goodvibes

I haven't either and apparently Shannon hasn't been keeping up to date on that one as well, like she was supposed to do.

I went into that thread rather early on but when no one even says "hi" or acknowledges your post, it can be rather off-putting.

Perhaps I need to jump back in and see what's up?

We haven't even planned anything for this cruise yet. I can't seem to get Shannon to want to stop and start thinking about it. I know we already missed the window I had for free flights to LA for it. Not sure where that sits now.

Oh well, it will all work out in the end.

Have you thought of renting a car/van and driving like you have before?

I received the document for end of July cruise with disney woo hoo...

Scottishwee35

We toyed with that but in the end we just added the girls from the get go and got it over and done with. One less hassle to worry about come due date time.

Now it's just trying to figure out how much time we want to spend in DL before the cruise. We can get a free flight to LA out of YVR but it would mean spending an entire week in Anaheim before the cruise. I think the cost of hotel and food would probably kill any savings of the "free" flight for a whole week.

It will cost us, so far, about $1000 CDN in flights if we fly in the morning of the 25th (Friday) before the departure day. Which is probably what I am leaning towards. That cost is also not with any seat sale. So if I just keep my eyes open I'm sure the rate can and will come down.

Make sure you book when you think it's good...

Michelle :grouphug: And listen to Marilyn, she's very wise :goodvibes

Thanks Kathe!!!

Love everyone's stories on how names were chosen in their families :goodvibes

Monica, you did a great job on your cake :thumbsup2

so... what's your story?

I was reading about flights that this year will be expensive during airline lost 2.8 billions:scared1::scared1:

I am searching flight for Orlando next year for Freedom of the Seas and I wonder if we make a mistake to book it as the flight is very expensive as 3 adults and 1 child..:scared1: I am still searching and think go book with contential flight to New York then change flight to Orlando as it is only one airline is much cheaper than BA and Virgins...:sad2::sad2:

as it is Easter times I thought summer is expensive but Easter is more expensive than summer :confused3

Booked cruise and timeshare villa but flight:sad2:

Scottishwee35

Yeah.. anything around Easter is going to cost alot... it's a major holiday for people here to have off... some do the week before Easter, others after...

Jeez-O-Petes, you're having a rough day! I think you need LOTS of these: :hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

Thanks!

Just don't answer the phone.

I'm not... but I'm waiting to see what happens next..

My grandmother is named Bertha Ellen. She goes by Ellen. She made her kids promise not to use "Bertha". I'm sure my Aunts are grateful. :)

We'll be :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: on Wednesday!!!

Its neat hearing all the different name stories.

Feel better soon Holly!

Like Ken already shared, it was an adrenaline filled soccer match. Its great to see how the team has improved over the season, and how they were really a team out there. Now the only problem is Shaelyn is definitely going to be playing her final game on Saturday while Kaleigh is in the middle of her soccer jamboree.

Easter is such an expensive time to fly to Florida. Have you looked into going via Amsterdam? I read a trip report on the dibb about Martinair from there and it sounded pretty good.

Marilyn, my mother's name was Ruth.

I like Ruth. Nice and simple, but very honourable if you read the book in the Bible.

THIS generation in my family finally put to rest some family names that none of us want to see again. Wilda, Abagail, Bertha, Walter, Wilbur. We have a friend called Bertha, but she is Dutch south African, and really her name is something like Umberta, and I think that is just a simple spelling and is quite hard to say. she chose Bertha to be easier, but nobody would choose to name their daughter that these days.

Super tired, had a migraine most of the day yesterday and it only got worse when I went to bed. Could be also coming back to work after your vacation. Hope it settles very quickly for you.

I guess there's a whole interesting bit to all of us...

& I like a group, cause I think I'm afraid of being in big situations alone.

I don't like doing things on my own either!! I like a friend to tag along with.:lmao: Or, I just don't go.:rolleyes1

Sound like a really emotional evening, surprising. It also sounds like there are communication problems stemming from the association.

Shaelyn's soccer is combined U9/10 for ages and is all girls. There are 5 teams in her age category. They play 7 a side so it is easier to have more teams. I think there are about 12 girls on the team.

Kaleigh at U5 is mixed boys and girls and there were about 8 teams in that division. But we only play 3 a side soccer with no goalies. Basically just teaching the kids the basics of the game and hoping they kick it in the right direction. Kaleigh's team had 5 kids on it this year.

Sound like a really emotional evening, surprising. It also sounds like there are communication problems stemming from the association.

That ain't the half of it. :sad2:

If there was another way for the girls to play soccer I would gladly take it.
