It's after 5:00 pm on a Sunday and I am not in a shuttle on my way to the airport. It feels so decadent to be home.

I returned to my WW meetings this morning after having been away for 3 weeks. My members were very happy that I was back.

I have really been taking it easy this weekend and trying to not pile on too many to-dos. I should have been writing my blog, but have given myself permission to slack off. Although I have been researching my next topic.

Instead I've been immersed in planning our October family vacation.

A big thank you to Marilyn who gave me info! Also a big thanks to the Kaz impostor who was most helpful. Apparently I have Karen's name under someone else's email address in my address book. As it happens they happen to be British and on the DIBB and were most helpful. In reality I don't have Karen's email address at all.

For some reason, Sukie's daughter has thrown herself into planning this trip. Odd because she was not engaged at all in planning the last family holiday. I get the impression that she's really excited about this one. She has even sent my her plan for what we are going to do for each of the 14 days. Prior to this I would have thought that a fortnight was a rather long time to be down there, but now I'm having my doubts. I think I'm going to be happy if I'm allowed time to sleep and eat.

Maybe it's because it's over 4 months away or because I just got back from WDW, but I hadn't given it much thought.

This afternoon, to shut everyone up, I booked flights for Sukie and I to Orlando, reserved the car for the fortnight, and bought the tickets for Universal Studios/IOA and SeaWorld.

Funny thing is that with all the years we've been going down to Orlando, I've never been to SeaWorld.

Not sure why, but there's something not quite right about the place, something fishy about it.

We are not going to be doing any sort of dining plan. I've really gone off that. I'm in agreement with Marilyn about it. Given that it's such a long holiday we might cook in on some nights and, hold on to your seats, eat outside of WDW sometimes!

What with what's going on with work, it did make me nervous to buy everything now, but the deed is done. It is now a fait complete. Having said that, the vendor whose system I'm implementing is having their big customer conference in San Francisco smack in the middle of our October vacation. I can't move the vacation because it's happening when there is a term break in the UK. I also put in for my vacation back in December. It may turn out that I have to interrupt the vacation and fly to San Francisco for a few days and then fly back to Orlando. I don't know and I'm not going to worry about it. In my mind I'll be happy to just reach October.

I still have 15 vacation days unaccounted for, that's after the 14-day family holiday and taking 3 days at Thanksgiving. I will carry 5 days over into 2011, so I have to figure out what I will do with the remaining 10. I want to go down to AZ in August to visit, Cheri and that other chick who lives there with her sister. Cheri and I talked about driving to California and spending a few days in Disneyland and then me flying home from there.

I'm working on the detailed project plan for my project and so I need to see when I can squeeze in vacation. Over the next year or so, I don't know if there's every really going to be a good time for me to be away.

I had contemplated booking a 4-night cruise for us, but Sukie said that now that he's had a taste of a long cruise, he doesn't think travelling down to Florida for anything less than a week is worth it.

My, my, considering that 4 years ago he never wanted to even try a cruise, hasn't he become spoiled!

Richard and I are planning on flying into LAX 6 days before the cruise, so YEAH, you could say we are interested!!! :goodvibes :thumbsup2 Looks beautiful...

I'm not sure what we are going to do. I'd love to come into LAX a day or two early but it all comes down to how many days away from work I can swing.

Take note those of you who may choose SW to fly to Chicago!

.

I had forgotten that the Mongolian horde was coming to Thanksgiving Dinner.

By the way, when that chick from Prescott was here we went to the Pancake restaurant up the street, first time I was there. It was fantastic. We both had savory pancakes. Not sure why I waited so many years to try it.

Jackie, Southwest open 6/15/10 for reservations through 1/7/11. Alan said to get in quick for Thanksgiving reservations as deals are few and far between.

He says to book early and he means early as everyone wants to fly then!!!

Hope that helps.

Who is this Alan dude? He's not coming for Thanksgiving, is he?

Who is this Alan dude? He's not coming for Thanksgiving, is he?

:lmao: Nope. He's a DISer (was on our WBPC) who works for Southwest.

PANCAKES: I want this one:

Apple - Dutch pancake cooked with thinly sliced apples and cinnamon. Sprinkled with our toasted hazelnuts, then topped off with fresh whipped cream and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. $7.50

I think you'll really enjoy Sea World...even though it is fishy! :fish:

You know, I think Cheri didn't have a savory pancake, I think she had the apple-ginger pancake. I think she thought it was yummy considering her eyes rolled back in her head and she made yummy noises (I tried to not be embarrassed).

all beautiful photos

and I love Molly's dress oh so beautiful

I bought new dress for Olivia's for this July and she will wear two dress as one from flowergirl dress too...

Scottishwee35

thanks Molly and I still love it - maybe we'll see if we can let it out for her to wear again - it was a ladies size that we had altered down for her.

I love Olivia's flower girl dress

Life got crazy and I didn't make it on here for a couple days. It was great seeing all the pictures you have all been posting.:thumbsup2

Nan - hope you have fun camping and feel better.

not great but better - still taking drugs for it all

Shaelyn has gone off for the weekend to the provincial celebration of 100 years of Girl Guides. This is the furthest she's gone from home without family. Its a 10-hour bus ride to Vancouver (chartered bus just for the Girl Guides in town; kids from age 5-18 with leaders) where there's a massive sleepover with about 7500 people. She was a little nervous getting ready to go, but very excited. I was surprised that it was hard for me watching her get on that bus. So its a quiet weekend with us & Kaleigh.

And my little Kaleigh is growing up and lost her first tooth this week! She was happy to get a "twoonie" from the tooth fairy.:goodvibes

Nice to hear of her trip - from a worn out and frustrated *retired* leader as of today - please take a moment and write a note to your leader from both you and Kaileigh telling her that you are grateful for the experience(s).

I had an awful weekend with my girl scout troop - so bad that I've decided to quit as a leader. Just too much effort for too little return effort from the girls (except Molly of course)

I know I have high standards for our troop - but after years of working on the concept of team before self I just saw it not happening this weekend. So I'm done

The hardest part in this for me (& Paul) is what will Molly do. Her troop isn't offering her what she wants or needs - it's turned into a gossip group. So we are thinking about having her find another troop or be a Juilette ( a single scout) hard choices - but I can say I'm relieved of the burden of this. It's been a long 7 years :sad2:

 Wow, 7 years is a long time to do that. Sorry about how things turned out, but great job doing it so long.

Yes, I had the apple-ginger pancake and it was, indeed, yummy. And I think Ian is exaggerating just a WEE bit when he described me. Actually, his description sounds more like HIM than me!:lmao:

Broke down and bought iPhoto '09 for my iMac so I could more easily post photos.

Here are some of my photos from crossing day...hey, it's still May 16!:goodvibes

Funny thing that, John is the same. I won't even bother suggesting a 4 night cruise now!!!

Depends!! If you al don't behave I might just send him an invitation!!!:rotfl2:

Today you can relax and recover from your busy Panama Canal day. We have a SEA DAY

Enjoy your lie in. There will be plenty to keep you occupied around the ship if you so desire.

Have a nice day.

So glad to hear you've been able to switch off from work and the long commute, Ian - I've been worried for you as it's sounded so stressful...

...Instead I've been immersed in planning our October family vacation.

Oooh er!!! There's a Faux Kaz out there?!!! I'm just glad "she" could provide the kind of help we Karen's are famous for. Well, not me - but all the others. Excellent... I shall have to email you forthwith!!!

:laughing:We are there for ten days during October and my DD has produced a 'plan'! I've decided I'm just going to let them all go off and do their own thing whilst I relax by the OKW pool. As Richard's not able to join us :sad1: I'm going to play the Marlene Deitrich "I Vant To Be Alone" card...

...We are not going to be doing any sort of dining plan. I've really gone off that. I'm in agreement with Marilyn about it. Given that it's such a long holiday we might cook in on some nights and, hold on to your seats, eat outside of WDW sometimes!
I am no fan of the DDP (way too much food for me!!!) BUT on this trip it's thrown in for free (not to be sniffed at when there's 5 adults in the party) so have already had to play the ADR game. It is so DULL - how can I possibly know what/where I want to eat so far ahead but hey, it's done now.

What with what's going on with work, it did make me nervous to buy everything now, but the deed is done. It is now a fait complete. It's a hard situation, Ian and one we're familiar with. I do hope Richard's new company is less er 'autocratic' (or do I mean 'despotic'?) when it comes to fly-swatting pre-planned vacation time...

I'm not sure what we are going to do. I'd love to come into LAX a day or two early but it all comes down to how many days away from work I can swing.
Ian, the reason we're coming in early is because it coincides with the 2011 Easter weekend so is public holiday here in the UK...

Crossing my fingers and hoping we can make it - even if just for a couple of days. Richard's going to try and see if it can coincide with a 'meet and greet' business trip to the US...

I really don't like what the whole ADR situation has turned into. It's madness. Not sure what the window is now, is it 90 days or did they go up to 120? Either way, I've really begun to resent having to making eating plans so far in advance.

This past trip we had 4 ADRs, one of which I cancelled and one of which was Mexico which turned out to be awful. Having so few ADRs worked out really well for us. I rather like being more spontaneous even though it means counter service dining, but I'm also starting to think that I'm enjoying it more too.

We don't get any time for Easter, so I have to rely on vacation time.

It's a hard situation. My project is going to go on for at least 2 years. They surely can't hold my vacation time hostage and I have to be allowed to take it.

This is my view for today.
