Our weather report calls for 100% chance of snow. The Texas storm is coming straight up the Appalachian trail. We're supposed to get snow this afternoon and into this evening with only a small accumulation of about 2 inches.

Thank goodness the plow and truck are ready just in case we get more.

I'm glad that the weekend is here.

We're leaving the house soon to do our normal Saturday morning errands. I'm quite happy to be getting back to our normal routine.

The week was crazy and stressful. I met my new boss and as I said, I only had an hour of one-on-one time with him which wasn't nearly enough. I really don't have a much clearer sense of direction than I did before this week.

I was not alone, as all of my colleagues are also very stressed out. I don't think there's any fault, but the transition has been very abrupt. Literally overnight a new culture descended and roles shifted, so the cause of anxiety is folks aren't entirely clear about roles and expectations.

There is a management book that is considered nearly the bible at the new company. I started a book discussion group so that we could read it, analyze it and assimilate the information. Yesterday we met for the first time, and it was really a housekeeping meeting, discuss how we will organize ourselves. It turned into a very nice "group therapy" session, and was extremely helpful for those who attended to realize that they were not alone in their feelings or anxiety.

My new manager seems like a pretty good guy so that's a good thing, but without any track record with him, I'll have to reserve judgement further.

I just have to get on with things and find a way forward, that all that it boils down to. I also consider myself fortunate to still have a job and to have been kept as part of the post acquisition staff.

The one striking thing that I realized in talking to my new manager and some of the other NY people all of whom are younger than I, which I've also posted on Facebook, is that my whole sense of self and values have changed.

Perhaps it a function of getting older, but my "career," "getting ahead," and "success" don't mean the same thing to me anymore.

Having someone talk to me about my career is almost like listening to a foreign language. Of course I want to be employed and very much want to be engaged in what I'm working on, but I'm no longer willing to sacrifice my life to do it.

I suppose my values and priorities took a serious shift as I've gotten older.

I couldn't agree more Ian. I know my perspective changed when I hit 50. Now I feel as if I have earned whatever it is that I want...be that diamonds or Mickey cruises. I have no problem spending the money and time to enjoy my life more. I struggled and strived to get ahead when I was younger and had the energy. Now I just sit back and reap the rewards. It's a good place to be.

John just said the snow has started!!! Michelle, it's on it's way up to you...it will be there soon.:lmao::goodvibes:lmao:

Deb... I can confirm that there are little white fuzzy things coming out of the sky... not sticking yet... but I'm sure when night comes... 1-3 inches called for here...

I HAVE to get me some of these!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Just make sure you don't get the same ones as the guys... wouldn't want to show up to the party wearing the same dress now would you? :rotfl2:

Just back from our shopping excursion, and we have to head out again, first we want to visit the local Christmas village and tent that has been set up in Lincoln Square and we also have to go to the supermarket. We never made it to the supermarket, only the green grocer. Of course there's a saga involved.

Sukie wanted a hat, so we decided to stop at a department store Carson, Pirie, Scott. We were out early, so unknown to us, they apparently had some "door buster" sales, 60% off.

OK, so he got a hat and I got a hat, because I need something a bit more professional looking than my Grumpy joker hat in light of the probability of needing to go to NY on a fairly frequent basis for meetings.

We bought some other winter stuff, all at 60% off. I start to pay and the sales clerk asks me if I want to open a store charge card and get another 20%. I abhor credit cards, but given that I'd save another $24 bucks I decide to do it. We are now going to get 20% off all day. So far so good.

We needed sheets and towels, and they had some great sales so we get some of those too. The sales lady sees my temporary store charge card and says, "Oh, they didn't give you the coupon for 25% off your purchases today too?" I say no, so she gives me the coupon and then takes my receipt from the men's department and proceeds to apply it to our men's department purchases. So now I get another 25% that, and 20% off and 25% our linens and towels.

We end up in kitchenware where there's 60% off some stuff we needed and got that too, plus another 20% and another 25%. We finally exhausted ourselves in the men's shoe department where I ended up buying a pair of shoes for work, which I needed, Clark's also on sale and then the 20% and 25% off.

Each receipt had the savings amount from the original 60% off and then the 20% and 25%.

I got back to the car and saw that in all we had saved about $525.

Ironically, everything we bought were things that we needed buy had been delaying making purchases until after the holidays.

Also ironic is that all we originally came into the store for was a woolen hat.

Now they're telling us 4 inches and it's sticking here.....almost one inch already.

It's like going grocery shopping... (but with better discounts...) You go in for a gallon of milk and come out $300 later...:rotfl2:

Ok... Prayers and Pixie Dust Please....

We just got a call from my Aunt Winnie...

My Uncle Frank (my father's brother) is in the hospital. He's 82 and getting frail - they don't know what is wrong with him but he got sick yesterday and they are running tests...

It's just so strange because Friday is the 1 year anniversary of my dad's death... I just hope we don't lose him now too...

Uncle Frank was more of a father to me than my own dad... treated me like I was one of his own, and I always told him that if I didn't have him, I wouldn't have anything to believe in from that side of the family.

So sorry to hear this Michelle. Prayers and Pixie Dust for Uncle Frank.

I know exactly how you feel though. I keep calling my uncle on Long Island...the one that is like my dad to me....my mom's brother....and no answer. His son told me that he was back in the hospital again. We're going to see him and all the other cousins on Dec 26 and 27. I hope he's home by then otherwise I'll go to the hospital to see him. I don't know what's wrong with him this time. My cousin didn't tell me in his email. I'll have to call the hospital and try to talk to him.

Let's hope that your Uncle Frank and my Uncle Teddy are both going to be ok. This is not the sort of thing that you want to have happen especially at this time of year. It's ironic that your Dad's one year anniversary is now too.:hug::hug::hug::hug:

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.....

Here's a shot looking over to the corn field....it was harvested last weekend. Good thing. John's truck is parked in the opening. This is John's diamonds or better known as THE BEAST. Naturally the plow is not attached and it's snowing. But there's not enough to clean up yet....we need at least 6-12 inches before we can plow.

I hope your uncle is ok Michelle. At that age anything can happen but he is in the right place at the moment.

Ian and Sukie - those jammiez sure look comfy.

Karen, if you do order them, email me because I think I might have some discount codes.

We LOVE our Jumpin Jamerz!
I will, Ian! I've found that they do ship internationally so will definitely be ordering. I live in PJs so these are perfect... :thumbsup2

I love this saga! And never lose sight of one thing, that it was all started by a hat...

I've become so I won't buy anything unless I get a discount. Except Disney cruises and purses, of course... ;)
