Ohhhh!!! Can I join too?:flower3::yay::yay: Pleeeeeease:flower3: Ian? Sukie? Deb?

Is Turkey Day on a Saturday next year then? There just happen to be direct flights from London to Chicago  Hmmm...The Crowne Plaza is at the airport then? How handy would that be! Maybe I would just happen to stumble upon a pool party and Thanksgiving celebration ;)

On another note, how expensive is it to fly directly from London to Chicago? I know the flights from Detroit to Chicago are fairly cheap. Also the flight is under an hour.

Ironic Incident for the Week

I get frequently get invitations to fill out on line surveys (for which I get reward points). I sort of like completing surveys.

The other day I had an email invitation to do this. It turned out to be on shopping habits. Lots of questions about the number of shopping trips we make on average in a month, the goal of the trips, what we spend, and, and the stores we visit (warehouse type stores, Target type, Walmart, supermarket etc).

Then questions about a new type of store, an urban targeted everything in one store.

In a comments area I say that I would not step foot in a Walmart.

More and more drill down questions about the idea for this new urban concept store.

Then the last screens, it turns out that it is a new Walmart concept!

There an offer as to whether I would participate in shopping at this new store. They will send me in advance a store card for $80. I can only shop on certain targeted days at certain targeted hours. I have to complete another survey afterwards, for which they will send me another store card for $40.

I said I would participate. I felt so dirty.

Sukie was not here at the time. He said, "Take their money. It doens't mean we have to ever step foot in there again."

I only wish this had happened before I bought my new roaster. I would have used the money to buy it.

Did you know I have a new fabulous Nesco Roaster.

:lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: Did you ask them to leave the vouchers on the bedside table and just get out..? ;)

Hmmmph!!! I do those kind of surveys for additional airmiles and I have never been offered shopping vouchers to anywhere!!! And I would take them. Even IKEA ones. I like their tealights...

Thanksgiving is on Thursday, the 25th of November in 2010, Kathe - I checked!!!

Yes there are!!! How on earth did you know!!! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

It all sounds fab!!! Off to check out the hotel... :goodvibes

:lmao: Oh yes, I remember now, that "other" London ;)

Of course you can Kathe.

US Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday. Actually it's always the 4th Thursday in November, so the day stays the same, but the date changes from year to year.

Oh, it does sound fab :goodvibes
Guess I should have known about the Thursday thing Ian
A little more of a challenge for me to arrive in time for a Thursday but this would be so much fun! I'm going to start plotting and planning and see if I can make it work  Thanks for the invite Ian:hug:

I signed up for those surveys. I used to do them, but not so much anymore. I used to do market research panels when I lived in NYC. Those were so much fun and we got fed and paid. Now they just want me to fill out the questions endlessly asking the same questions in five different ways and they want to pay me $2 after it just took me 45 minutes. It's no fun anymore and not worth it for me.

For you however it's awesome. You'll get $120 for your efforts....way to go! Just buy all new household items...kitchen toys and linens for bath and bedroom. If you don't need any of those things, you could always go for electronic toys. That should do it. Have fun!!

I was trying to think of Chicago hotels I've passed that I thought I would want to try a stay at (with cost no consideration) and here's my list:

The top of the list: Hotel Burnham:

http://www.burnhamhotel.com/

I've walked by this hotel and have loved the look of the lobby and the restaurant. Any of you who know me can look at the photos and you'll understand why I like it.

Looks like this year at least they're priced around $400.00. I often fly from Detroit, but then I'm looking at a 3 hr shuttle at a cost of about $100.00 as I won't drive myself there! Now, if you're asking about the "other" London, I have no idea ;)

Okay, just did a quick search and I could fly from Detroit for half the fare, around 200.00 but with my shuttle it would be 300.00 I'd rather spend an extra 100.00 and have a 20 min drive to the airport as opposed to a 3 hr drive.

I was asking about London, Ontario. What a bummer that Detroit is so far. Or, maybe that's a good thing.

Southwest is only about $75 each way to Detroit, but when you add on the $100 and the 3 hours to get to Detroit, that's just doesn't seem worth it to me either.

Our house is in disarray. For some reason Sukie wanted to move the dining table into our front parlor, open it up and put in the leaves.

I'm not quite sure why we had to do this this morning, considering we could have waited until before Thanksgiving, considering I've taken the entire week off from work.

Well, this might give you a little more time for other preparations when you're off, or a few extra minutes one day to actually find time to relax!

My house is in huge disarray! My son moved his belongings from Alberta in this week, and his girlfriend is now staying with us too. At least they've set up a room in the basement so I have my computer room back again! I was really missing not being able to access my computer whenever I wanted to! I now have a room I can come to when I need to hide from everyone ;) Serenity is still here too every 4 days for 4 days at a time and probably will be for some time.

Sadly, I have to get ready for work now. Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday....especially Jackie party:

I was trying to think of Chicago hotels I've passed that I thought I would want to try a stay at (with cost no consideration) and here's my list:

The top of the list: Hotel Burnham:

OMG the Burnham is beautiful, Ian!!! I am going to treat this trip as Richard's 48th birthday treat (November 21st) so may book a lovely hotel - if we can get one of the flights using airmiles...

I'm just surprised that in their description they say they are located near downtown. I suppose it's all in how one defines the word "near."

I see that it is .7 miles from the Blue Line L station.

Driving from there to Eastwood Manor is pretty easy, either via highway and local streets or all local streets. I myself take local streets because I think it's easier and faster. We're not near any highway. They are way west of us.

It looks like a good choice. You guys could always drive to Eastwood Manor, park here and head downtown.

There's a big parade on Thanksgiving Day, the McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I've never been to it.

Chicago is one of those odd cities that people don't really live very close to where the hotels are, not at least anyone I know. Aside from the Loop and downtown, it's a very neighborhood oriented city and though extremely urban, not in the same way that NY might be.

Chicago is more like a big Brooklyn with a big downtown area.

I wish we had guest rooms at Eastwood Manor but alas it is a 1-bedroom apartment with a front and back parlor, a dining room, 2 offices and one extremely large bedroom.

Even if you had 10 guest rooms, John would stay in a hotel...just the way he is. He hated sleeping at my mother's house when she was sick and just getting out of the hospital. We would stay at her house for a few days to a week. He was very uncomfortable and glad when we were able to go back home.

John likes to drive. I gave him the choice of flying or driving and he picked driving. He chose not to stay in the downtown area. He wants to get on the highway and go. He'll follow gabby....his GPS....to get to your house. He prefers to drive to Eastwood Manor and back to the hotel.

YES absolutely....please do join us if you're able to. We would love to see you Kathe.

Thanksgiving is always on the last Thursday of the month of November. Next year it will be Nov 25. How fun it would be to get off of the ship and then stop over in Chicago to do a mini meet. The Crowne Plaza is at the airport....O'hare not Midway. It sounds like a plan.;);):rolleyes1

I've always really liked the looks of it when I've walked past it. I've never been in the rooms, just seen the lobby and the restaurant. It strikes me as very art nouveau. Actually, I take that back very, very much Chicago Prairie Architecture inspired. The two style are very, very close, but the Chicago school is a tiny bit different.

Is Richard really going to be 48? Those Swiss monkey placenta treatments must be doing wonders!

I like the location of the Burnham too. State Street is not necessarily the shopping street it was in days past, but you're still not very far from Michigan Avenue and a nice northern stroll to what has become the main shopping district.

I don't blame John. We like our own space too.

Ian, thanks for the list of hotels....I can't wait to check these out. Even though I'll probably stay where I am, I'll enjoy looking. Price is a consideration for me.

Sadly, price is always a consideration for me too!

I'm with you Deborah, I missed the "other" London. I get it now. Sorry. I thought you were doing a transatlantic and then coming back from London, England. What do I know.:laughing::laughing:
