HAPPY BELATED 4TH OF JULY!!

I'm back from a glorious weekend in Turks & Caicos! I have found a new favourite beach! Grace Bay Beach is GORGEOUS!!! OMG!!

It was hot as Hades but really glad I got to go.
:goodvibes Did exactly what I planned on doing - sat on the beach, looked out at the water & read.

Had to go read the old thread to find this one....can't believe I already have 16 pages to catch up on! :scared1: Be back soon.....

I have some BIG, BIG, BIG news to share! It wouldn't be a big deal for most kids, but it definitely is for Tyler! Long ago when I was tossing the camp idea around in my head and had already decided against it, Tyler asked me if he could at least try the 3-day first-times mini-camp. His psychiatrist told me he'd hate to not let him at least have a chance to try. I called the director of the camp and had a long conversation with her. She told me that while they don't call themselves a special needs camp, they find lots of kids with issues come through there simply because they're a really small camp. Their ratio is 4-6 kids per counselor, which amazed me because where I went to camp there were 10-12 kids per counselor. She told me she'd be willing to let Tyler try the 3 night camp, and that she'd put him in a cabin with 4 kids total and would also assign a counselor in training to work with his counselor to sort of be that one-on-one person if needed, to divert or distract or take Tyler away for a break alone or whatever might be needed. The only condition was that we agree to come right away if they call us to pick him up. She told me that she's found that kids like Tyler actually do quite well there because being outdoors is so calming, and they keep them so active too.

She really made me feel comfortable with it, so I agreed to let him go. When I emailed his dad to tell him about that whole conversation and to tell him Tyler can go, he told me he would take those days off work and would camp at the KOA campground right across the street from where Tyler would be, that way, if he got kicked out, he wouldn't be as completely devastated because he'd at least get to finish camping those days, just with his dad instead. I couldn't believe his dad came up with that idea! :thumbsup2

SO.......he left Sunday and his dad brought him home Wednesday.....NO PHONE CALLS from camp, NO incidents at all! The 2 counselors assigned to Tyler's cabin told his dad they had NO problems with him at all and that he did great, no differently than any other kids! :yay:

I talked to Tyler and he told me he had such a great time and asked if he can do the TWO WEEK camp next year! ;) I told him he can do ONE week next year and 2 the following year. He told me he bought something for me at the camp store (his dad sent money with him to spend there) and he can't wait to tell me all about his time and sing me all the camp songs! :dance3:

I'm so proud of him....this is a HUGE accomplishment for him!

Holly - this is WONDERFUL!!! I kept meaning to ask you about this but kept forgetting!

WAY TO GO TYLER!!

KEN.....I found it! (thread 12 page 159 and it had a link to you flickr account) :thumbsup2

Ken, I'm about to go back and search the old thread for a sign you made for me (green Mickey head that says DIScruiser and you added my username and a bouncing Tigger). I had written down the thread # and page # and can't find the stupid piece of paper. Thought I'd check with you first in case you still had it stored and could just repost it for me. Peg got her's printed right away, but I didn't. Just realized I might have an old PM asking for Peg's, that will at least have a date on it so I know where to start looking. :sad2:\

Here it is:

He looked to have a great time.

What a lovely place by the way.
Oh his house is unbelievably beautiful and large, and the yard is too. It's a bit of culture shock for me. But it's very peaceful here. You can't see it in the picture because the yard slopes down, but there's a dock to get on the river and he has his waverunners tied up down there. I'm not going to go anywhere near that river though. There are snakes.

The pool has 2 waterfalls, one on each of the long sides of the pool, and there are 6 water spouts that shoot water in an arc towards the center of the pool, but they were turned off at the time of the picture. And there's a strip of lights going around the inside top of the pool that changes color every few seconds. VERY pretty at night!

I'll get better pictures later when we're in the pool. We're headed out soon to Smokey Mountain National Park to go to the top of the mountain, do a nature hike, take a picnic lunch. I'll have some beautiful pictures from there to share!

We all got up late again today, so we're getting a late start, but that's OK....it's a relaxed trip. :cloud9:

I printed and laminated the one KayR made for me, that has the Tortola infor on it, but I really like the non-cruise specific, bouncing Tigger one Ken made. :thumbsup2

I have a really cute one (as a souvenir for Dianne) that has Tink in a white sailor suit that has Disney Magic and our cruise dates on it.

I STILL have to make four sets of Mickey ears....guess I'd better get on that, eh? Suppose I should head off to Michaels after medication and a nap!

Nan, I hope you're feeling better by now. I had a minor one yesterday, most of the day. My stepbrother whose house we're at was the first to go to bed tonight because he's had a bad one most of today.

Thanks I'm better today, just the hangover from the drugs.

Going out to lunch in a minute with my sis and mom. It's my sisters 48th bday :scared1: Man she is old  yes I'm the younger one, can't ya tell :rotfl:

I'm looking forward to getting home and using Tyler's computer for putting our Florida vacation pics & video clips into a slide show or something. Photobucket is making me really crabby. I had one done up through day 4, and now it's gone! No way am I doing that all over again, so I'll be headed to the Mac for rescue shortly after we get home! :thumbsup2 I've got to get that taken care of because now I have lots from our current trip to Tennessee. :goodvibes

In the meantime, here's a short video clip of Tyler today in the pool:

Holly that pool and other pictures show a BEAUTIFUL house/yard. How nice to be able to visit with your brother.

Are you taking some time off work this weeK?? I missed this, Paul is back at his desk today, it was nice to see him for 3 days in a row :cool2:

I feel like I should just go through my old yearbook and put big red X's over their pictures...

Welcome back Monica! Glad you had a nice time! I hope you have some pictures to share with us. :goodvibes

Yes, I took off today and tomorrow. They're trying to convince us to stay another day and leave Wednesday instead of tomorrow, but I can't miss another day of work so soon after having a week off. We can come some other time.

We had an awesome day today. We slept in, had a late breakfast, and headed out for the Smokey Mountains National Park. We headed up to the top of a mountain, found the Tennessee/North Carolina border, hiked on the Appalachian Trail, and took lots of pictures. Then we headed back down to do some fun stuff in Pigeon Forge. We didn't go to the aquarium like we'd planned, but did lots of other fun things instead. We first went on the Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride, then to a "gem mine" where Tyler and his cousin Elizabeth shared a bucket of sand to sift and find gems. Lots of cool ones were in there! Then we went to a store my stepbrother's wife wanted to check out, then they left and Tyler & I went on to ride go-karts, he was my passenger, then we did the bumper boats. The bumper boats were hilarious because although he was completely enjoying squirting me with water, he got freaked out at the end because he couldn't steer his boat to the dock. He was the only one left in the water and was screaming "I want my mommy" because he kept spinning in circles and couldn't get it to steer the right way. :rotfl2: I was cracking up, the poeple in line were saying things like "poor little guy" and were chuckling too. :lmao: Unfortunately, I'd left my video camera in the car. Then we ate supper at Subway and went on a helicopter ride! He was nervous, but loved it! :thumbsup2 Oh, at some point we hit the Disney outlet store. Tyler got a Mickey t-shirt for $2.99, some Mickey swim goggles for $3.99, and a Hannah Montana mini-skirt and matching shirt for about $15.00! Great prices, but not a good selection.

When we got back tonight, everybody was just getting out of the pool, so nobody wanted to go back out in it again, everybody was getting into their pajamas. Tyler wanted to swim with everybody, so my stepbrother whose house we're at promised to swim with him in the morning before we leave. :thumbsup2
