:grouphug: for everybody that needs them!
Happy thoughts out to Michelle whereever she is.

We had a nice birthday dinner for Kaleigh tonight. My little baby is a big 4 yrs old now. She's having a birthday party on Sunday. This is the first year where she's invited kids (every other year has been family only). I'll make her cake for the party, and tonight we had the little cake she picked at the store - carrot cake!

Now I must go to bed since I'm supposed to go into work 2 hours early so I can leave early so Ken & I can get to a dinner event.
Make sure you share party pics with us! :goodvibes

So the reason I missed Gray's and Private Practice tonight is because I was out buying myself an early 60th birthday present--a new TV. It's a monster, 52" Samsung. I told the guy that sold it to me that I've heard that people generally feel about TV purchases the way women feel about breast implants--after it's all said and done, they wish they'd gone bigger. So now I have to rearrange my living room somehow. It won't be delivered until Mar. 4 because I'll be gone all next week. Too bad it won't be here for the Oscar party, but I'll have it for next year, right????

Holly, this is all your fault, I just want you to know!!!!:lmao: :lmao:
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Way to go! Enjoy! Woohoo! I'm sure you'll be as happy with yours as I am with mine! :goodvibes

Glad to be of assistance.
Holly Mulligan, economy stimulator, at your service. ;)

Welcome to Friday!
Your Gateway to the Weekend!

Well, I hear on the radio this morning that we are under a winter storm warning and expecting to get 4 to 8 inches of snow by tomorrow 6PM.
Isn't it funny how at the beginning of winter, when that first snow comes, people get all worked up over the thought of 4 inches coming, but now, at the end of winter, it's no big deal to see 10 inches fall. :rotfl2:

Mom came back last Thursday and I have not had a spare minute to myself. I spent all day Friday at a place called Ashby Ponds Assisted Living. It is right next to Dulles airport (right down the street from me) and BRAND new. Oh my gosh, it was so nice, my SIL and I were ready to sign up!!

She really would love Assisted Living...it is just too bad....

I am sorry, I actually know a little of what you are going through.....just got my mom convinced to rent an apartment at Good Samaritan Village in Kissimmee. She didn't want to leave her mobile home park in Ellenton (even though she said she didn't like it there either:)). She got a really cute 2 bedroom apartment with a great view of a lake out the back screen room.

She got her place in Ellenton rented out for 3 months and then......it SOLD! Hurray!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: she was so worrkied that she had to pay rent at both places!

So we have been shopping for furniture....and I think she's actually HAPPY or at least satisfied. It's like pulling teeth to get her to spend any money....I guess she thinks she's going to die destitute! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: She'll be fine once she meets some old cronies and can have cocktail hour.....

Good luck with your mom...one thing I do like about Good Sam's.....there is assisted living, and skilled nursing onsite...and visiting nurses and meal delivery if you want it.

I will move there myself! It would be a vacation!:laundy:

Chuck and I went camping on our honeymoon.....in 1973! :bride: WE had a tent and we were so young! We went to the Rocky Mountain National Park, and Denver and Golden....oh, my what fun we had!

Here's a funny story, though. As you know, we are from Illinois....flatlanders for sure! :rolleyes1:love2: We camped at Shadow Mountain and then went hiking up, up, up to one of the highest mountains......well, I got so SICK! We went to town and phoned a doctor from a pay phone (no cell phones back then). He said I had ALTITUDE SICKNESS!!!! He recommended a night at a hotel, and lots of fluids....I think he actually laughed. So we stayed at this great motel built up the side of the mountain called the Brass Bed and in the morning they brought us a tray with coffee on it. We thought we were in heaven! :love2:

Gosh, I haven't thought of that for a long time.....I'll have to find a photo of us somewhere in a box of pictures........
Aw, camping for your honeymoon! Very fun! :goodvibes

Altitude sickness. Yuck...happened to me when I moved to Wyoming for a few months, I was horribly sick the first few days and that's what they told me too.

I just have to share Tyler's occupational therapists response to the exchange between me and his dad about camp. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Holly-
The best way to describe where Tyler's Dad is at is DENIAL!!!! He is choosing to believe what he wants to believe which is not even remotely close to reality. To send Tyler to a camp where they are not equipped to handle him is not only unfair to Tyler but to the camp, counselors, and the other children involved. I love your idea of the SDP or AI camps, Springhill, which is a Christian camp also offers camps for kids with special needs so you might want to check it out( a compromise perhaps). See you on Monday.

Yeah, that's what happens to us FLATLANDERS when we try to do too much at first!

Oh, Holly, If you find a GOOD camp that can cater to Tyler's needs, the experience will be WONDERFUL for him! We sent Patrick to camp every summer, sometimes 2 different ones....they had some great camps for children with physical disabilities and he got to go swimming, make crafts, sleep in a cabin, go to shows, visit farms, go to campfire sing a longs...etc. All the things that other kids get to do.....I recommend it!!!!

WOW - 4 years old - time flies!

Post some pics if/when you can & give her a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY hug from me

Connie - thanks for sharing your honeymoon story w/ us :goodvibes

Cheri - loved the line about wanting things bigger :lmao: Where are you heading off to?

Deb - forgot to send hugs to you & John

Lisa - forgot to send you hugs for what you're going through. I know that I had a hard time talking to my parents (mostly Mom) as to what they want to do - it's tough with them being in Argentina.

Holly - you are helping stimulate the economy - you've had me buying dvds :rotfl:

I think she has hit the nail on the head here Holly.

Oh, I'm majorly supportive of camp. Just not specifically designed for kids like him, or able to accommodate his issues. :thumbsup2

Yup, and that's what I was trying to tell his dad. But hopefully when he sees basically the same opinion coming from a professional, he'll re-think things. I googled the camp Tyler's OT mentioned and they offer one-on-one counselors if a child needs it. :thumbsup2

Oh, cool! I want to go to camp!:banana::banana:

MONICA:

I forgot to bring your mailing address with me to work today. Can you please PM it to me?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Well, all of us have carefully put the paperwork in front of her to sell the house...she starts screaming at the top of her lungs and tears the papers up.

We have stayed with her at her house to clean it out. We have had a little luck with this...but there is still a lot there.

We have turned off the phone cable etc (she has not lived there for 2 years) she calls and turns it back on.

We have forwarded the mail. She calls the post office and cancels the forward. I don't go get her mail...she cries and tells my kids how horrible I am because I don't help her....so then I go get her mail.

She is the most negitive manipulative person I have ever met.

How in the world do you do tough love on a 90 year old 80 pound lady?:confused3 We can not figure out how she has loved this long....she smoked 3 packs a cigs a day till she was 82 when she quit cold turkey. She has drank enough in her life to kill 4 men.....

Oh well, I am sorry, this is my issue. I am very lucky because I have awesome brothers that have not left me alone to figure this out.

:grouphug:Oh, sweetie! I am so sorry you have to go through this with your mom! I think we need to start a new thread on HOW TO DEAL WITH OUR MOMS WHEN THEY GET OLD. My mom is so much like yours in behavior it's not even funny:rolleyes1 But at least she has agreed to do the big move, without too many tantrums.

As you know, I have been dealing with my mom, too. The day we went to the lawyer's office to get some groundwork done for me to have Durable Power of Attorney and a pre need guardianship set up, she was very upset when we left and made me pay for the lawyer's fees! :lmao::lmao::lmao:
At least she is agreeable to the move, especially now that we actually sold the house in Ellenton, so she can't go back there. AND she has new furniture!

Now, a word of advice.....you have got to get some paperwork done so that you will have more control....with this behavior, it wouldn't be at all difficult to get a judge to give you control.....it would solve a lot of your problems. Also....ok, don't yell at me.......you need to take a step back and look at it from a little distance and see her as an elderly person who isn't able to cope, and not your mom. Too many emotions get involved there. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:three big hugs for you.....it will get better! And remember....she doesn't want to lose control, but it happens to all of us eventually! :cutie:

You probably have already done this, but you might look into what elder services might assist you.

Here in Chicago we have the Jewish Counsel for the Elderly, and I relied on them very heavily with my father.

They have a mediation service that helps families "negotiate" with elder relatives, as sometimes, doing it alone can be difficult. A professional mediator can help with the process.

Perhaps there are some similar comprehensive organizations in your area who might be able to help with the situation.

Oh,Ian,good idea.....there must be some elderly care negotiators or support staff for Lisa's mom, too. My mom was going to a therapist in Ellenton, and she helped her accept the move.

Now I'm off to WALMART with MY mom to return stuff she bought and then changed her mind about.....we've been doing this a lot.....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

All caught up now. At least for now.

Thought Shannon would have posted some pics from "High School Musical on Ice" from last weekend, but I was wrong.

So I will do so. Besides, I thought Olivia might like to see some of them. Brooke might like it too, but I know Gaylean wouldn't show them to her - afterall she didn't take Brooke to the HSM event on the cruise.... ;)

They have a little quiz running on the big screen prior to the show starting:
