Hi All....a progress update....I managed 4 1/2 hrs yesterday and I'm working on 5 today. So far, 2 down and 3 to go. Time moves very slowly when you're just watching the clock. I wish I could fall asleep but it doesn't happen because I'm so uncomfortable. The good news is that it seems to be working. The swelling is going down a little and the color is looking more natural. The leaking is still going on but it's a little less. I started my antibiotics so I'm on my way. Thanks so much for all your words of encouragement. It helps a lot.

Good morning dear friends - hope everyone is staying warm (or cool as the case may be) and that those of you w/ illnesses are getting better :goodvibes

Not sure if I told you guys this or not but my dad is finally starting treatment for the prostate cancer. He's doing the radiation that will be done every day M-F for 2 months. He's already been permanently tatooed (for the lining up of the equipment) and is going in tomorrow to find out when he actually starts w/ the treatment (I think he's hoping for next week). He has decided that he wants to try to go on the Baltic cruise w/ me as 2 friends bailed on me. I'm ok w/ going alone, and have told him that I don't want him to rush anything & that his health is his nbr 1 priority...but he's interested in where the cruise goes & can't really see himself doing this cruise for the amount of $ it cost so he wants to try to go.

Prayers for him & Mom would be appreciated :grouphug:

Sending lots of prayers, positive thoughts, pixie dust and love to you and mom and dad. Hoping you get the news that he's all cured and gets to join you on your Baltic adventure. pixiedust: pixiedust: :grouphug: :grouphug: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Another update .... I'm down 13 lbs for the year WHOOP WHOOP!!! :cool1: :cheer2: Really happy about that :goodvibes now just need to keep it goint :thumbsup2 Thanks to all of you for your continued support (anybody else get a flashback of Jack & Elwood from California Coolers :rotfl: ?)

You will keep it going because we all know that you can do it. You're doing so great already. Me and everyone else is here for you anytime you feel the need. I'm so proud of you for making such a difference in your life.:cheer2: :cheer2: :grouphug: :grouphug: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Forgot to mention (at least I THINK I forgot)....Ann & Albert have offered to take me from Heathrow to Dover AND it looks like I'll be spending a good part of that Monday with Karen (custardtart) from the Tortola cruise (and 1st Baltic).

Oh you are going to have such a good time with all of them. Don't forget to take some pictures and post here please. We want to share with you.:flower3: :flower3:

Walt Disney Co. profits dropped 32 percent at close of 2008

Profits at the Walt Disney Co. fell 32 percent during the final three months of 2008, dragged down by falling DVD sales, weakened advertising revenue, and lower attendance at its theme parks.

Disney said it this afternoon it earned $845 million, or 45 cents a share, during its fiscal first quarter, down from almost $1.3 billion, or 63 cents a share, for the same period a year ago.

The results, which include a gain of 4 cents a share from the sale of investments in two Latin American pay-television services, missed Wall Street's expectations. Analysts had predicted average earnings of 52 cents a share, based on a survey by Thomson Reuters.

Total revenue fell 8 percent to $9.6 billion.

The company's parks-and-resorts division reported both lower revenue and operating income for the three months that ended Dec. 27. Revenue was down 4 percent to $2.7 billion, while operating profit fell 24 percent to $382 million.

Disney blamed the division's performance on sagging results at its U.S. resorts and at Disneyland Resort Paris. Both attendance and occupied-room nights fell at Walt Disney World and at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.

The company said it only partially offset the losses with cost cuts.

"We faced a challenging first quarter with many of our businesses impacted to various degrees by the economic downturn," Disney President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger said in a written statement. "We are forcefully confronting current circumstances while investing in the great creativity, brands and assets that are Disney's strengths and keys to its long-term success."

Notice that nowhere in their psyche is the notion of reducing prices.

I suppose they still maintain a "what the market will bear" strategy, albeit for a shrinking market.

back from an emergency trip to the doctors office for Paul. He called me talking very irrationally telling me he had a nose bleed since 10:30 am (2.5 hours of a nose bleed) and he was taking himself to urgent care. He of course didn't know where urgent care was but he was going :sad2:

I called his ENT, got a message into the nurse and convinced Paul to meet me there.

I called his admin (by looking up SONY's # of web since I don't have it and he didn't either) left her a message and then zoomed off to meet him of course calling for child care coverage all the way to the doctor's office from my cell (speaker phone)

Met Paul in the parking lot, he was a mess, both physically and mentally. I think the blood loss really affected his brain, along with the stress of course.

We went into the doctor's office and fortunately she saw him right away and cauterized his bleed. He is now packed and resting for the balance of the day. Off any heavy lifting for the week. His BP was up 30 points for him, very high. (for the rest of us, normal, I think he is the walking dead with his normal pressure)

While at the doctor's office I found out that he had been sitting in his car from 10:30am until he called me @ 12:30pm with the nose bleed. He never made it into the office. His car is a mess (yuck) We did have a good laugh about the fact that if he waited a little longer he could have bled out and I could tell everyone my husband died from a nose bleed. Bad sense of humor, I know. We were trying to keep his mind off of the issue. When Paul was in college he had surgery for a deviated spetum, he had a bad result which landed him in the hospital for 3 days due to uncontrolled bleeding. The result of that bleed was a bad packing job that created a hole between his nose. He has a great fear of stuff being put in his nose based on this terrible experience. :sad2:

So, that's my day so far.

Off soon to get the kids at school and home to make dinner and call it done.

Ian, your day sounds better than mine at this point.

Nope...just discounts... they don't want to tell anyone they are hurting...

Oh Nan, YUCK!! I am glad he sounds like he is on the road to recovery. Maybe I send Gretchen to him so he can babysit her!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Daniel had massive nose bleeds like this. (well maybe not this bad.) He has had them all his life. I remember going into his room when he was still in a crib and he had taken the blood and painted with it all over the wall. He had a blast and never cried.

I know at Tech in a few exams, he has started to bleed and had to be excused. It takes a lot for a prof to excuse during an exam....I guess blood everywhere qualifies. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Nan, how awful! Please give Paul our wishes for a speedy recovery.

Tell him if he doesn't take care of himself, we're going to have to phone him up and serenade him with a get well song, and I'm sure he wouldn't want that!

Sorry we're not coming up to scratch today Ian. ;) Sounds like you are feeling a bit down with things at work at the moment.

It just a fear of the unknown. My previous role, while stressful was a core function, my new one better leverages my skills and experience but is far from a vital role.

thanks, I just tried to ply him with Jamba Juice, and he said it's really hard to drink anything when you can't breathe thru your nose.

thanks and nope, you keep your sickie kid to yourself. Sadly Molly has the same issues with nose bleeds. She has often had to get up and leave class for the same reason. Thankfully hers started when she was old enough to handle them herself.

You are picky, aren't you?

OK this is the closest I could come to YOUR fairy-tale:
