I just checked to see...we have no plans of crusing again, but I wanted to see what the difference was from our 2015 cruise to the 2017 cruise.

To get the exact same room (deluxe ocean view)...

In 2015 we paid $4200 on an MTO discount
2017 is only $400 more.

I still stand by the WBPC cruise being one of the best values on Disney, hands down! If you have the time, go on this cruise. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks @MunFam! :goodvibes We are booked on our first one for 2017 and really looking forward to it! Any itinerary recommendations - port sights or onboard activities? :scratchin

What is WBPC?

I'm new..
WBPC=West Bound Panama Canal cruise. I took the EBPC in 2012, loved it immensely, 14 nights, much lower per night charges than almost any other DCL cruise. The Canal itself is a stunning achievement, and DCL does it right (with daily pre-briefings with a former Canal pilot, then all-day commentary on the PA system while you actually traverse the canal - which takes most of a day).

Not sure what sorts of changes there have been to port adventures since I took that cruise, but the general tours of Cartagena were fun.

Oh my goodness...it was all so wonderful. My biggest tip is for canal day. Do not rush up to the top deck and try to watch from the front. You will need to be there at zero dark thirty and it will be stupid crowded. We went to deck 4 and had the best view going in to the lock. There was barely anyone there. We could look straight down and see just how tight of a fit it is. Then after the 1st park of the first lock, we went to the MDR and had brunch next to the window. We were actually INSIDE the lock, so you could see the walls. Best memory of the trip.

Then for the 2nd and 3rd lock series, we went up to Cabanas and snagged a table (it wasnt crowded) on one of the two little spots that jut out at the very back of the ship. We sat there the rest of the day. We had amazing views and got some really great pictures.

We hired Dora from http://www.cartagenatour.com/ and she was AMAZING!!!! Definitely get off the ship in Columbia. I actually set up the tour via our FB meet up page and a group of people all went with us and it made the rate super reasonable. We were able to basically do two of the tours DCL offers in the amount of time it takes DCL to do one. I asked to skip the "new city-mall" and spend more time in the old city. It was AWESOME!!!!

In Cozumel, we went to Ponchos Backyard for lunch and walked around. We live at the beach, so paying for a "beach break" did not make sense to us.

We missed our Puerto Vallarta stop, but in Cabo San Lucas, we hired a boat at the dock and went out to Land's End and fed the fish. ($20-ish USD)

On board, keep up with your navigator. There were so many wonderful extras that they offered. Adult activities in the kid's clubs, a princess tea, tons of classes and food and beverage tastings. The best part was that it was so uncrowded that we could go to the pool any time of the day or night and get loungers. In fact, sometimes, the kid pools were quieter than the adult pool. I recommend one night skipping dinner and show and having dinner on the deck and swimming (later in the cruise). We were the only family in the pool for 2 hours!

Awesome! Thank you so much @ Munfam! Sounds like a great plan for the canal day. I was actually looking at Dora's tour yesterday so I'm thrilled to hear you recommend it. In Cozumel, is Poncho's Backyard on the east side of the island? We usually stop at a place along the Atlantic coast for lunch and would love to try a new one. Thank you taking the time to reply!

Its on the same side as the port. We could see the ship.

I agree with you it's a good value still but for us it's $1600 more for the 3 of us in the same room.

Wow! Isn't it crazy how much it can vary. I was hoping it would be much higher (so we could feel like we got an amazing deal), but it wasn't that much of a difference for 2A1C on deck 2.

I posted in another thread, but the quote from last year opening day (for this year's WBPC) to next year's sailing (quote from this AM) was a difference of 1K in a cat 9A room for 2A/1C. While that doesn't seem to be as great of a jump as some of the other itineraries, it's enough for me to not pursue it due to my DH's hesitation to do that sailing, as well as the cost of airfare (and the increase in the cruise fare) vs the cruise I do have booked in a suite on another line out of NY (no airfare).

I'd still love to do it, but that's a heck of an investment (time and money) if DH and I aren't both 100% into it.

Wow! That is nuts. We were in a 9B and I compared to a 9B again. The opening day fare must have been less than the $4200 we paid on an MTO discount, if we had booked on opening day. Fortunately, we live in San Diego, so all we had to "pay" for was our one way ticket to Miami...and we had travel vouchers, so it was like $60. I agree with is a major time investment. We went specifically for the sea days and the notoriously low child passenger situation. It was awesome, less than 200 under 18. All of the princesses knew our kiddo's name by like the 3rd day. We ran in to Rapunzel and she took our kiddo on a hunt to find Pascal for 20 minutes...without ever seeing another kid. Our kiddo also did a race with Pluto on deck 4 one evening before dinner. It really was about as magical as it could be. I doubt we could have that experience on one of the summer family cruises.

I have no idea what opening day pricing was, but in Sept I priced it out at about 6k for a family of four in a 9c with obb. 1k or more higher this year sounds about right

I'm not biting on this one because its still more than I'm willing to pay per night--especially on a long cruise and ESPECIALLY considering I have a 1yo and a 2yo in those fare calculations. If they release a last-minute fare that's a better deal, I may be tempted. But man am I spoiled by the great deals of 2013 and 2014. We did an Alaska in 2013 for 2A, 2C on an IGT rate for less than $3000. Sigh.

Did anyone notice the itinerary for the WBPC in 2017 has 2 days in the Panama Canal? Day 7 & 8 show "Panama Canal".

Yeah, I noticed that too - looks like 2 Panama Canal days followed by 3 days at sea vs 1 Panama Canal day followed by 2 days at sea. I have no idea what this could mean....could they just not be sure what day they plan to go through and so have both marked for now?

Any

I scored a secret porthole room!

so did we! assuming we can scrape up the fee by december given the amount of traveling we are doing this year, fingers crossed!!!!

i thinker room is a 7a? anyways, 2 adults, we had an OBB to use, but it was just over $5K (?5042.00 or something?). I was hoping it was going to be closer to 3000! ha! anyways, here's hoping we make it! we sailed in 7120 i think it was for alaska 2 years ago and loved the room.
