Ways to use dining plan...

A friend will be traveling with his family split up in 2 rooms. They want to be able to cook for some nights and dine out other nights. His question is- can they purchase ddp for all the quest in one room and not the guest at the other room. When it's time to dine, can he use all the ddp points for the entire family. This way, they'll use up their ddp points during 1/2 of their stay and cook the rest of their stay.
I've always used up my points daily and never came across carrying over or inviting guest to dine.
I'm assuming since dining is based on points, they can invite any guest to dine as long as points are available, is this correct ?

Let me know if i'm not clear with my scenario.

If they are in a two bedroom villa, no, they cannot split it up. If they are in two separate rooms - that is two separate reservations - they can buy the dining plan for one room and not the other. They cannot purchase more meals than the dining plan is note on their KTTW. It will say the number of adults and the number of children on the plan.

For example, they have two adults and one child in one room, two adults and two children in the other room. The first room has the plan. They can only purchase two adult and one child meal per table. If they have all seven of them at the table, four (two A and two C) will have to pay out of pocket. They can't use credits for people not on the plan.

You could purchase for everyone and then use it at a restaurant that requires two meals like Cinderallas Table. Then you van still cook in the room some nights.

Disney does a pretty good job of planning for the loopholes we tend think of.

Thanks, that answers my questions. I didn't know the system knows how many adults in the ddp. I thought they only know it has total # of adult points and children points and thus, i can use it freely as long as there's available adult / children points. They should allow us to purchase the # of days we want for ddp and not the entire stay. bummer

Here is the official response from the Dining Plan FAQs:

"Q. Can I use my Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family members who are not included in my reservation and have not purchased this plan?
A. Sorry, you may not use your Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family members who are not included in your reservation and have not purchased this plan"

I suppose that would work for counter service since they don't look at # of adults or children, but only on amount of points being used.

Some will, but most computers are programmed to not allow it. The problem with the original plan was that servers were bypassing many of the rules so when they switched to the new plan, they built more controls into the software.

I can confirm that it works for CS meals...but I never tried on TS meals.
At the end of the week last year, we had a bunch of CS credits left. I invited my friends who live in Kissimee to join us at a resort for a CS supper. We used up all the CS credits
