Way too hot on the ship

My wife and I are from the north, we recently got back from our first cruise. it was to Alaska. It was wonderful and we loved our room but there didn't seem to be anything I could do to prevent waking up in a pool of sweat. We asked to have something done and they changed the air filter, but that didn't help then we had a fan brought in, and it helped a little, but our room was still way too hot.

On Glacier day I went out in a tee shirt and shorts and was finally cooled down.

It's the only reason I wish I had a balcony, because we did not miss it otherwise. Has anyone else experienced this. am I doomed for my future cruises to be too hot?

That's not been my experience - on any cruise line. I find the ambient temperature onboard (public spaces) to be pretty chilly. In fact, on our Hawaii (DCL) cruise, it was so cold in the Walt Disney Theater that people were bringing blankets in to keep warm.

Did you use the thermostat in your room? I find that works for me.

Nearly everyone else seemed to be comfortable or cold, some of the common areas were comfortable to us, but you cant sleep in Shutters... we turned the AC down to the lowest setting as soon as we got into our room, but it didn't seem to change anything.

I'm hoping that they turn the AC to a lower temperature in warmer climates...

It sounds like the AC wasn't working correctly in your room. I'd chalk it up to "don't book that room again". If it happens in other rooms on other cruises, keep complaining.

Yeah, our next cruise is a 3 day out of San Diego, so a decent proving ground I expect

This.

Or someone (or more than one someone) in your block was leaving their veranda door open, thus affecting the AC in the whole block.

The verandah stateroom for our last June Alaska cruise was great, temperature-wise. However, as I have said many times, beware of the smoking area, just above the 8000 staterooms. During glacier day (dead calm) we had smoke and ashes all over the verandah. We complained and guest services moved the smokers back from the railing, and the ashes stopped but the smoke kept coming. Next time we will book a starboard room.

You had a bad room. The rooms do get cold. They should of moved you. Maybe they didn’t have any room to move you to.

I agree with the others that say that there may have been an issue with the ac in your room.

When you mentioned it to your host, I'm surprised that it wasn't repaired or as someone suggested, move you to another room.

I get hot very easily and I would have been quite miserable there. I've always liked how cool the staterooms were. It's much more comfortable to sleep.

We were on the Wonder in April and it was downright chilly. I am usually hot so turned the AC all the way to cold the first day and woke up freezing that night. I think it was a room issue in your case, what deck were you on? We always stay on 6.

When we were on the Wonder in January, I felt that our Oceanview room never got quite as cool as I would have liked. I thought maybe it was the older ships. My rooms on the Dream and Fantasy have all been able to get VERY chilly! We'll see when I'm on the Magic in 10 days.

Wow! Good to know this could be an issue. Yuck!

When it's cold out the AC's don't always come on making it feel warm and stuffy. I've stayed in hotels in the Winter where it's been freezing outside, but the room is stuffy. The rooms on the ship don't have a digital thermostat so it's impossible to tell what the actual temperature is.

I found the same when sailing on the Magic and Wonder. The ac is not as good as the newer ships.

I was wondering (no pun intended) if they keep the Wonder warmer in Alaska. Our other cruises had me shivering and wearing a sweater indoors, but the one in Alaska was cold outside and warmer inside.

I think you and I were on the same cruise...disembarked on June 4th, right? If so, then yeah, it was toasty in our room. I was fine every where else onboard the Wonder, but in our room, I had to crank down the temp (up the A/C) since day one. I was surprised how warm it was. I thought it was just our room. I'm kinda glad it wasn't just me. No one else in my room complained, though my kids were in shorts.

On our last Fantasy cruise our AC was not properly working. They were able to fix it though...thankfully! Sorry to hear how uncomfortable you were...I can't take the heat especially when I'm sleeping!

we were on 2, when I mentioned it in my FB group, many people agreed that deck 2 was too hot

actually we were on the cruise before you, but I don't imaging that much would improve in that time. How was the mix of adults and kids on your trip? our server was dreading it because he said they would have 1800 children on that sailing...
