We cruised on the Dream 2+ years ago and the Wave phones did not seem that reliable (or we just couldn't get ours to work!) Sailing this year and was curious if anyone has instructions on it or other information? We are going with a larger group and would love to call room to room. Thanks so much!

They're actually pretty simple, but people try and over-think them. Think old school cell phone and you're good.
They'll be at least 2 WP in each room, they will each have a different number, the room number and either a 1 or a 2 at the end. Say you're in room 1234, one phone will have the number 12341 and the other 12342. To call WP to WP you just type in the other WP number in. To call WP to room phone (or any non-WP on the ship), you need to put (I think) 41 before the number.

The WP number will be on the main home screen, just under the time. Double check because occasionally the phones get changed at GS and can have a different number.
And most of them are automatically set to silent/vibrate.

I hate those phones.
We only use them when we travel with our grandkids and they are in the clubs.
On 2 different occasions, the club tried to call us and the call never came through.
My daughter also had a wave phone that was registered to another cabin, so when the club tried to contact her, it wasn't going through. It must have been switched during a previous cruise or something.
I am really hoping that soon they will be able to use our cell phones in place of the wave phones.

Here's the instruction manual for the Wave phones: http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-cruise-line/images/Dream-WavePhoneGuide.pdf

Quite honestly, most people now use the Disney Navigator app on their own phones to communicate via text messaging. It's free to use when you're connected to the ship's wifi.

Thanks so much!! Yes, they definitely looked different a few years back. They just launched the Navigator app texting ability before we went on the last cruise and we could not get it to work. Amazing how much technology has changed in just a few years! THanks again.

Just so you know the phones on the Wonder and Magic are a little different, although they work in the same way, the buttons on them are different.

Also, if you're on the ship and have issues or questions and don't want to go to GS, Im pretty sure that Housekeeping have WP so they can help or every officer has one. If it doesn't work (calls or messages) then you need to go to GS and they'll just replace it for you.

Me too, from a CM point of view. Its the worst when you have a really upset or even sick kid, and theres nothing you can do because the WP aren't even charged and no ones in the room...

just use the on board messenger app.. our family started using the app in 2015 and it works well

I really wish they would add voice calling to that app like some other cruise lines have.

The Disney Navigator App has just that. (Of course you have to have a smart phone, tablet or iPod touch to use it, a regular cell phone won't work) We are excited to try it out this cruise, we aren't big fans of the wave phones either. I've heard great things about the app!

It lets you text but unless something has changed since september you can not make calls via the app like some other cruise lines.
