Waterproofing basement

My Dh and I are thinking of waterproofing our basement. Has anyone had experience with this? I am wondering how much this will cost and do you have any good recommendations?

depends on what your planning on doing-

You can have perimeter drains put in- with a pump for upwards of 5K

You can "drylock" the basement walls/floor with a paint- for about 20 bucks a gallon

We drylocked our basement because all we had was seapage. It was a long process, but well worth it

My neighbor has the drains- and love it

The other thing to remember is to properly grade your lawn- sloping away from our house....a lot of people have a perfectly flat lawn from the house out- and that causes problems

We have drylocked one side of the basement but you can still see water coming in because it discolors the white paint. Also around June we had huge rains and we found that where the floor and walls meet, there was a space that seperated. This caused some more water to come in and soaked our carpet about one foot in.

We had the insurance company come out and they said that it was not covered...then two days ago I get a call from our agent telling me that the insurance compay wants to drop us because we might have a black mold problem. I know we do not have that yet because we have cleaned everything. Plus I was pregnant and was not going to bring a newborn in a house with mold growing in the basement.

SO now not only do we have to deal with the water ( my dad calls it moisture b/c there is not water actuallly running) in the basement but now we are fighting with the insurance company. My Dh wants us to switch to State Farm but they are almost $300 a year more for a auto/home policy.

Be careful...basement waterproofing can be one of those moneypit types of things.

We had a damp basement until we got new gutters. We didn't have enough downspouts and the rain came back to the house. Since the new gutters--no wet basement.
