UPDATE
I got my cast today but the cast guy talked me out of the waterproof cast ...he said it wasn't good for everyday washing /showering
He said it was more for pools and that it wasn't good to get soap etc in it.I have a feeling I'm going to regret it but whatever... So, I have a very bright pink regular cast to deal with for the next 4 weeks. It will come off 4 days before we head to WDW! Thanks for all the info!
You can still get a plastic cover for your cast to at least shower. I broke my ankle last year and bought the plastic cover that is a pain to wrestle on then shrink wraps around the cast so you can shower. I called it the "leg condom" and never got a drop of water near it while in the shower juggling on one leg.

Not just for the sand, but because of all the other possible things that are in a lake. Germs, small microbes. Yes, we could have rinsed it off after, but felt it better to be safe rather than sorry.
