I am looking to buy a waterproof point and shoot camera for our upcoming cruise. I would like one that can take decent "dry" pictures as well so I'm not carrying two around. Any recommendations?

I got a Panasonic Lumix waterproof a couple of cruises ago. It does good underwater and on dry land.

Only issue I had with it was a bad battery that came with it. Nothing wrong with the camera.

Lifeproof makes excellent water proof cases for cell phones

All these were taken with an iPhone 6 with a Lifeproof Case

I have had a Pentax Waterproof camera for about 5 years now. It has been a great camera (still and video), I have used it in and out of water (ocean or pool) and it can take being dropped well. The link below might be a slightly newer model than mine.

I actually need to replace mine, so I may have to grab one of these soon. I finally broke off a piece of rubber corner that makes it waterproof. Considering how hard I was on this particular camera, it has been great.

My avatar was taken with this camera.

I didn't like my waterproof case for my iPhone and am going to get an Olympus I think it's the TG-4

Olympus tg-4 is the current best point and shoot underwater camera. Also the Olympus has an underwater setting that corrects for the loss of red coloring under water. I have one and love it! :fish:(edited)

My Lumix also has an advanced underwater setting and corrects for loss of red.

And has Wi-Fi with NFC. (Whatever that means).

I have a Canon D10 Waterproof camera that I absolutely love! It's relatively old, but it has a new version, the Canon D20. Easy to use, takes good pictures in and out of water, and very sturdy. Here is a photo from my most recent trip in August on the Fantasy.

Hope this helps!

Wow Aby, that's a sweet image.

We use a Panasonic DMC-TS5 and love it. I am a HUGE Lumix fan, mainly due to the durability (I am a klutz) and simply use a wifi enabled card. I prefer not to use wifi at all so I can selectively upload my photos.

Oops.....my mistake. I confused Lumix with Canon. I have had a few Lumix cameras and they are really good. NFC stands for "near field communication". It allows the transfer of pictures by touching it to another NFC device such as an Android phone. Sorry to hurt your cameras feelings.LoL

I also got this camera originally as a waterproof one, but it's become my main camera even on dry land. I may have to replace it because the plastic part that holds the battery in has partially broken, but I've been really happy with it.

One more vote for the Olympus TG-4. I have had my TG-2 for several years and love it. I've brought it in the ocean, pools, inside, outside and have banged it around more times then I probably should have and it still takes great pictures.

I have the Olympus Tough and it can take a beating. It's great for snorkeling and other active sports.

If your going to spend up to $300 for one I would suggest a Gopro video camera. Watertight to many meters and you can shoot high Def video as well as still pictures. At 1080p any still frame you take from the video is as good as a camera. Then you can footage like this.....(BTW YouTube turns down the video quality. On my computer these shots are amazing.)

what is your definition of 'underwater'?

This makes a big difference.

Do you want a camera that can get wet and be OK

one you can take snorkeling and submerge a few feet

or one that you could take diving to 100 feet?

IMO only the last is an 'underwater camera'

A Go Pro is great but there are several models and the capability range is wide from lowest to best ... as is the price!

SeaLife cameras are 'underwater' and good to over 100 feet . . . . and take good dry pictures too. But not cheap as compared to a camera that 'can get wet'

Is this a silver 4?

We have a Nikon something or other, bought about 18 months ago. I really like it and it takes decent photos underwater and on land.
