Waterpark with a toddler?

We are considering a day at Typhoon Lagoon, but it's just DH, myself, and our 15 month old. I'm wondering if it's a good fit for a toddler? We've never been to either of the waterparks before.

We're considering taking our will-be 17-month old and 4YO because our TA is providing tickets as part of our package. We've done both water parks pre-kids but aren't too sure what to expect with the littles in tow. We're leaning towards BB because it looks like they have a large toddler/preschool area (more for the 4YO, but I'm betting the baby will give it a go) and the family raft ride is a lot longer, if I'm remembering right. I'm guessing we'll just spend a few hours, as the kiddos won't be able to do many of the slides, but it should make for a nice morning.

I personally would not go with a child that young. We took my son to Blizzard Beach when he was 2.5-3 years old and we thought it was the biggest waste of money. He was terrified of everything. He hated getting water splashed on his face, so even the kiddie slides were a no-go for him because you get splashed at the end. Unless you and your husband are really craving some water slides, and will take turns going down the big ones, I would skip it. Your toddler will have just as much fun at the hotel pool.

We've taken 2 1/2 year olds to TL twice, and they loved it. However, one parent (obviously) needs to stay full time with the toddler, so you'd have to be fine with taking turns doing all of the adult stuff. Could get pretty boring after an hour or two. I would also agree that at that age, he'll be just as happy with the hotel pool.

That's pretty young for either WP, and of the 2 BB is far more kid-friendly than TL, IMO.

If it were me, I wouldn't bother with the water parks.

At that age, they'll be just as happy at the resort pool and won't know the difference :-)

It's much easier to pop over to the pool than it is to trek over and back via bus to the water park.

We brought our 21 month old to Typhoon Lagoon last fall and she LOVED it. She has no fear & loves water - she sat alone in the kiddie tubes in the lazy river, and would go down the toddler waterslide (there was one with a tube for <48" high) for hours. We spent all day there. My husband enjoys waterslides more than I do, so I was fine staying with her while he took off.

It can be fun, but we never stay more than 2 or 3 hours max. You just have to know your own kid as to whether or not they will enjoy the water or freak out every time the water hits their face, which is inevitable in a water park. It's something we do every other trip rather than every trip.

We took our youngest DS to Typhoon Lagoon when he was 15 months old, and he LOVED the wave pool (as long as we didn't go too far in) and floating in the lazy river. But that's about all he could do. We mostly went because DH and our oldest DS wanted to go, so I just stayed with our toddler and splashed around for a while.

We've never gone to the Disney water parks before bc we have a water park back home that we get season passes for so we figure y go to the Disney water park when we have a water park at home. Anyways we take our toddler to the water park at home and he loves it! He loves the wave pool. Last year he had just turned 1 and he was crawling towards the waves and laughing and he would go under the water and laugh and splash and have a great time. He is definitely a water bug. He also has a big brother to show him the ropes so that helps. I think it all depends on the kid. Maybe before you go to the water park spend some time at the hotel pool and see how that goes and splash the water and just see how your little one does. That way you will sort of know before you get there how its going to be and if your little one will enjoy it or not.

Personally, I think Blizzard Beach is way more fun for the little ones than Typhoon Lagoon. Lots more little kid play areas at BB. TL is more for teenagers and older, in my opinion.

I don't think 15 mos. is too young as we always choose our places to visit based on the wants of the whole family - we wouldn't avoid it just because one of the kids might be too young to fully enjoy it - esp. at Disney as every place is kid friendly. DH and I would take turns hanging out in the toddler play areas with whichever kid(s) was/were in that age range while the other(s) wandered around to play in other areas. There's something for everyone and it's a nice change of pace from the theme parks. Plus, you can get a bucket of ice cream. I mean seriously - a beach pail full of ice cream and hot fudge and whipped cream and cherries. And a lot of spoons. That alone makes it a worthwhile trip! :yay:

We are a family that is big on including everyone in our activities but we left DD home from Blizzard Beach when she was 18 months. We wanted to have fun with our older kids and there wasn't much for a toddler to do.

I've been taking my LO to the water parks since she was 9 months and she's always LOVED them! At 15 months I'd choose Blizzard Beach over Typhoon because the kiddie area is better for that age than Typhoon's and the wave pool is a lot milder. Both have lazy rivers so that isn't an issue. There was plenty for my daughter to do and she enjoyed it enough at 15 months that we could stay for hours. It is best to either get there right at opening and stay until they are worn out or go around 2-3:00 and stay until closing because mid-day is a lot more crowded. Obviously one adult will have to stay in the kiddie area most of the time so we trade off. We actually just went to Blizzard Beach a few weeks ago with my 15 month old nephew, my 3 1/2 yr old daughter and my 3 1/2 yr old nephew. All of them loved it & lasted from opening until 3:00. The 15 month old did not enjoy the family raft ride but the 3 1/2 yr olds loved that, the lazy river, the wave pool, the kiddie area, and everything we let them do in the preteen area (my daughter at 3 1/2 is a very strong swimmer but my 3 1/2 yr old nephew can't swim at all).

I suggest staying at a resort that has a splash pad instead and just staying there for the day instead of going to the water park. Thats what we are doing.

We took our twin 20 month olds last summer and they LOVED it! Interestingly enough, they didn't care for the pools at the resort at all. They loved the childrens' area slides, steps, and little water spouts. We planned to spend 3 hours and ended up there until 2pm, which was way past their normal nap time. I'd say to give it a shot!
